I like Gideon because he gains a ton of moves related to different boss fights depending on if you talk to him about defeating them. Can make the fight much harder or easier

Also as for Royal Rat Authority the older versions of DS2 did give more time before big rat dog came down. Not 10 second probably closer to seven or eight but Scholar of the first sin shortened it to four seconds because Scholar hates you.

Jack's comment about Gideon possibly being the worst boss in all of gaming got me thinking about the worst bosses I've ever fought. One that immediately jumps to mind is the Doppelganger from Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. The penultimate boss of the game, you fight it at the end of arguably the hardest stage in the entire franchise (filled to the brim with death traps and enemies and projectiles flying at you from every direction, as well as one of the most aggravating staircase sections ever conceived), and, to make matters worse, the Doppelganger is one of the hardest bosses in the series. It's like Mimic Tear if it was buffed to Hell, requiring 16 hits to kill it, while it can kill you in 4 hits (assuming you're at full health when you reach the boss, which you most likely aren't). Since it mimics the form of your character, the only way I was able to beat this boss was with a cheese strategy. I switched to a different character (which gave me a moment of reprieve as the Doppelganger morphed to take that new form), allowing me to get a hit in and then switch back to the first character. I just repeated that process until the boss was dead, but I was still at risk of getting destroyed if I screwed up the timing on the character-switches. Awful boss. Another is Icon of Sin from Doom II: Hell on Earth. As lackluster as the Icon was in Eternal, it was infinitely worse here. It's just a wall-texture that keeps spawning endless enemies in a lava-filled arena, and you have to continuously board a slow-rising platform to shoot a rocket into the Icon's brain. Because Doom II didn't have mouse-look, you had to time the shot perfectly or else it would miss the hitbox. You have to successfully pull this off a bunch of times, while dealing with the army of demons spawning in. Horrendous way to conclude the game. Finally, I want to mention Minax from Ultima II: Revenge of the Enchantress. Now, I love the Ultima series (easily one of my favorite gaming franchises ever), but the first three games are pretty tedious to play and the second game is the single worst RPG I've ever beaten. The single most cryptic, convoluted, and tedious piece of crap game I've ever endured, Ultima II makes Simon's Quest look as exciting as Blasphemous 2 by comparison. The finale isn't any better. You have to hunt down the villain in her castle, which is filled with high-level Balrons that relentlessly pursue you, non-stop, and then attack her in the northeast corner. As soon as you're in sight, she begins firing spells at you, and the moment you land a hit she teleports to the complete opposite corner of the castle. This process continues a bunch of times, and, if you're lucky, you can use time-stop items to momentarily freeze the invincible Balrons and trick them into getting stuck in one of the rooms in the middle of the castle. The boss fight is still a pain in the ass, though. I understand that it's a game from 1982, and I didn't expect anything amazing. However, that doesn't excuse having a finale that abysmal.

After my SL1 run, I'm one of the rare Lud and Zallon enjoyers. I hate the way there but judging the boss in a vacuum I actually enjoy it. It is a reskin but Aava's basic moveset feels more fitting in a gank fight as a DLC boss. After beating Aava I felt that she was a cool boss but too simple for a DLC boss after she's visible, and it's nice that this boss adds in that flame buff below 50% to keep the player on their toes after they think the boss is over. Still, the frigid outskirts is just disgusting and ruins any enjoyability that can be had from the boss.

My #193 is Abyss Watchers. I know that’s a hot take, especially after I voiced my opinions on the bed of chaos, and I admit that the second phase would be good on its own, but it isn’t. The first phase is a fifteen minute slog consisting of waiting for the red-eyed dumbass to actually get hits on the boss. The first phases attacks feel unpunishable, and I almost always get hit while going for an attack which makes me feel like I have to just roll through every attack and wait. It feels like a boss runback that takes triple the amount of time as frigid outskirts with triple the chance of dying. Such an atrocious fight and I would say there’s almost no chance of any bloodborne, sekiro, or Elden ring being worse than it.

A tier list that doesn't put BoC dead last? F*CKING FINALLY!!! 7:09 It sure a good thing we live in different countries. 15:12 There actually is a way around it. It took me three playthroughs to find it though, because it's really easy to miss.

Bed of Chaos is a well designed fight

Great video, Guys! My least favorite FromSoft boss is probably the Bed of Chaos, but Royal Rat Authority and Lud & Zallen are pretty close. I feel less embarrassed about struggling so much against Gideon now that I know he was buffed in a patch. Since I didn't play Elden Ring until 5-6 months after its release, I expected him to be a push-over (as that's what everyone had experienced when the game initially released). He ended up killing me 9 or 10 times, making him the third toughest boss for me in the game behind Radagon / Elden Beast and Maliketh (I was pretty over-leveled when I fought Malenia and had an easier time beating her). Bloodborne has taken a little bit of a tumble in my personal game rankings over the course of time. At one point, it was among my top 10 favorite games, but now it's slid further down as I've reflected on some of the weaker areas and bosses found there. It's still my favorite FromSoft game (largely on account of its atmosphere, combat, and inclusion of some of my favorite areas out of any of the games), but it barely scrapes its way into my top 20 favorite games now. Granted, Sekiro is the only other FromSoft game in my top 100, but that has more to do with the amount of amazing games I've gotten to experience than any knocks against the other Souls titles. It's still a fantastic series. Anyway, I'm enjoying your content as always and look forward to your future uploads!

I have not played elden ring in a while but I always hated Gideon. He drove me insane in all the playthroughs I did. Was there an update that somehow made him worse??? Pretty much everything makes sense here but I was shocked by Nito. Admittedly I probably give him too much credit. It's pretty bad as a fight but I still like him for some reason. Excited to watch this whole series! Should be a fun ride!

When I saw this video on patreon y'all mentioned would rather have a bland nothing boss over an agonizing boss while some people prefer the painful boss over the boring boss reminded me of that case study where they put people in a room with an electric shock ball. A vast majority of people touched the ball and were shocked, understandable humans are curious by nature, but then 1/3rd of the people went and touched the shocker again. There are a surprising number of people that would rather be in physical pain than be bored.

I would have waited till the DLC was out to start this series but I digress

21:35 I am the exact same way with bosses and games in general (I’ve only played two From Software games but I’ve played several souls-likes just to let it be known) if a boss is a pushover or incredibly easy I am okay with it, hell I welcome it actually. I get that this is subjective and respect that many don’t agree with me but if a boss is genuinely pissing me off and making me angry then I find that much more egregious because I’m not even having fun, I’m just suffering until I beat it so I can move on plus once I beat that rage inducing boss I feel hollow instead of triumphant. Essentially I’ll take a pushover boss over a rage inducing boss any day.

I only just got past Sir Gideon in the video but my least favorite boss in the series is easily Champion’s Gravetender and Greatwolf. Simply put I’ve never liked NPC bosses so sticking a really lame one in an annoying arena with a giant reskinned dog enemy made me want to pull my eyes out with a melon baller.

Idk, I found bed of chaos runback fine if you use that hidden bonfire. O&S's runback annoyed me much more because of enemies I actually had to pay some attention to.

Great video and I can't wait for the rest of the series. Your videos were the reason I even got into Souls games and they're now my favorite gaming franchise/genre. Now I can watch this series and actually know wtf is going on lol. I think Dragon God is the worst boss in the whole entire series, the thought of this being out of the bottom 10 gave me conniptions but I'm interested to hear what you guys have to say about it. I've always thought Rom was worse than One Reborn as well but One Reborn is 100% a dogshit boss. Gideon Ofnir is just fighting a mage build on PvP, and for that alone Miyazaki deserves jail time for designing that wretched encounter. I didn't think I would see Nito this low either, I think he's a mid DS1 boss but I understand your arguments. Armor Spider was also surprising, but I guess any number of DeS bosses could end up down here and I wouldn't argue that fact lol. DeS bosses as a whole are the reason the Geneva Conventions were written and I'm so glad that they eventually learned their lessons and stopped making more of those

1- Yep, I'm with you that Gideon is a terrible fight. He just spams spells non stop and they deal so much damage, and sometimes they interlap with eachother making them impossible to fully dodge. Terrible terrible boss... 2- Lud and Zallen. I don't agree with that. As a fight is a decent one (even if it's a reskin), the problem is that you have to run 5 minutes evading fucking weird horses in the blizzard xDD 3- Bed of Chaos. No doubt the worst fight in DS1, they had a good concept in theory but hte execution is terrible and the run through the boss is long as fuck too (Let's not forget that the closest bonfire is behind an ilusory wall too) 4- Armour Spider is okay to me, I understand you find it boring but there is no critical errors imo. 5- Crappy demon is another terrible fight we have in DS1 xD. You can fix the fight pretty easily. Just make the fight a 1 vs 1 and when he goes to half health, the demon calls the dogs to attack you while he heals a little bit. You defeat the dogs and then you refight him and defeat him. EZ Oh, and we should be able to parry him. 6- Royal rat authority is one of the worst bosses in DS2. You have explained perfectly in the video xD 7- The one reborn can be the easiest fight or one of the hardest. Sometimes you can break all his limbs and get a no hit and if you are underlevelled you can have a really bad time. The attacks are random, and pretty fast and you have to kill the enemies up in the towers too. 8- Pthumeria Descendant is a pretty cool fight, but he has attacks that are to fast to react, and if you want to parry him you have to shoot before he attacks xD 9- When you fight this bitch the camera is another enemy xD, but if you have good level you can break his limbs and almost kill him. 10- Nito is a good concept terrible executed, I think the skeletons relive to early. It's cool that if you bring a blessed weapon you can kill them but it's a meh fight. He is slow as fuck, looks like a ds2 boss xD VERY GOOD VIDEO, BTW!

idk what your first playthrough looked like in its whole. but a very possible reason for Gideon being harder this time around could MAYBE, just MAYBE be that.. he’s Gideon, the.. all… knowing.. he knows all the spells and shit from all everyone YOU have conquered. beat malenia before him, and he can use that scarlet bloom aoe thing. so if you went into this playthrough set on killing EVERY boss, vs potentially not doing that in your previous playthrough…

armoured spider is my favorite demons souls boss lol yes the aoe thing is stupid and takes too long but actually learning and being able to dodge its attacks feels very satisfying more than any other in the game imo.

Interesting to see Armor Spider this low. Don't get me wrong, it's not a good fight but I feel like not only are there worse bosses in Demon's Souls like Dragon God and Leechmonger, but there are many bosses in the other games that I find way more frustrating and/or boring. Also, love to see Gideon at the bottom. He's a nightmare to fight without cheesing.
