By God of War III, he pretty much is a villain. It just so happens that the antagonists are just as shitty as he is (Technically Kratos’s fault for opening Pandora’s Box and corrupting them) The new God of War actually managed to turn Kratos into more of a “hero” by simply allowing him to accept that he’s a monster, and try to change things for the better

DoctaDaKing in consideration of Pandora's Box, Kratos became consumed by it as well by going mad with Revenge. Zeus being fear and Athena with Greed. I think when Kratos gained the power of hope he changed his mind killing Pandora which was the first time in the game he chose to not sacrifice someone to further his vengeance.

lucifers gameroom He was, but at the same time, he wasn't. He was because he "saved" Olympus in GOW 3. He wasn't because he killed EVERYONE in Olympus. That isn't an exaggeration. He kills every living person in Olympus. But he only did that because Ares had him kill his wife and daughter in blind rage. And, to be fair, everyone else attacks him first.

I kinda wanted Joel to tell the truth, but losing his family and being depressed, sad, and angry I see why he did it. Ellie was the closest thing he had to happiness in 20 years. He didn't want to risk losing her. I wonder if she finds out the truth in L.O.F part 2 and what happens next.🤔

I think she already knows, there was some kind of "sequel" with the voice actors making some kind of show regarding it. Anyway i think Joels decision to save Ellie was also since he saw that it wasnt worth the sacrifice of the girl for what remains of Humanity if you think about it most of the enemies of the game are humans who hunt other humans and even eat them, in his eyes Ellie was not only his daughter but also worth more than whats left of humans

I would do it, if only for the possibility for a future where life isn't full of murder, violence, hunger and rape. I'd do it so that there's a civilized life, worth living again, even if I'm only there to see it for a short number of years.

I love how The Last of Us paints Joel as an objectively shitty person. And having the game end with Ellie and Joel’s relationship strained and built on a lie was a great way to end it. Last of Us 2 better further develop this.

There is no good or bad in that world. Theres just wants and loss and joel had enough loss to last a lifetime. Also i highly doubt a immunity to the cordicept would of done anything, seeing how humanity devolved into what they are. I was perfectly ok with what he did but thats just me.

1. While a similar event happened in Haiti, neither Shay nor the other members of the Colonial Brotherhood knew what these artifacts did. 2. Knowing that the Assassins would seek more sites, he sought to make sure that no other people were killed by stealing the Manuscript, and also atoning for his actions. 3. NONE of Shay's fellow Assassins even listened to his warning, which led to his turn to the Templars. The Assassins were also revealed to have poisonous gases. Though their intended use was against the British, the gas could harm other civilians.

In regards to #1 (which everyone should see coming), put yourself in Kratos' shoes. Let's see how many times the gods have fucked him over: 1. Ares and Athena kidnap his brother Deimos for the death god Thanatos, who in turn tortures him for years. 2. Ares manipulates Kratos into killing his wife Lysandra and daughter Calliope. 3. The Furies torture Kratos into returning to Ares' service so the god of war can help him take down Olympus. 4. Persephone tricks Kratos into giving up his powers to be with his daughter before revealing her plan to destroy Olympus, the world, and the Underworld, which results in Kratos killing innocent souls of Elysium to regain his powers and in him never being able to see his daughter again. 5. The gods refuse to grant Kratos' wish to remove his nightmares, despite him explicitly stating that was the reason for his decade of service to them. 6. The gods attempt to stop Kratos from getting any information that would lead to Deimos. 7. Zeus tricks Kratos into draining his godly power into the Blade of Olympus, then kills him. 8. Athena stops Kratos from killing Zeus, even jumping in front of his attack. I could go into the 2018 game, but I will not to avoid spoiling those who have not yet played it. GO BUY IT!!! It's a system seller.

How about this for a list: "Top 10 Stupidest Video Game Choices We Were Forced To Make". Basically, stupid actions in video games that we had to make or else the plot wouldn't move forward. Examples: Giving Heath the Yellow Gem (Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia): Heath's hostage is in no danger beyond being bound and flat out tells you not to hand over the Yellow Gem. However, listening to him and not giving Heath the Gem results in Heath mocking you and the game makes you hand it over. Getting Phoenix Disbarred (Apollo Justice): In the flashback case, you have to have Phoenix present faulty evidence while well aware it will ruin his career.

there’s something a lot of people missed in the last of us. theres a transcript in the hospital that tells you ellie was not the only immune! there had been previous failed attempts and she wouldve faced certain death against uncertain odds. i think joel did the right thing in saving her. i wish he didnt have to go through all the fireflies to do it, but hey u gotta do what u gotta do.

I think Joel may have made the right call in The Last of Us. If you listen to one of the audio diaries in the game, a doctor admits that all previous attempts to make a vaccine failed. They used people who had the same condition as Ellie and the scientists were unable to succeed in every trial.

Good vid but idk about Joel and Kratos being on the list. They were protagonists but definitely not heroes. Everything they’ve done were solely for their own benefit and they rarely cared about anything else. Sure they got better over time but there’s still a lot of blood on their hands

You’re right about Joel. He’s absolutely not a hero. In fact, there’s enough evidence to objectively label him the villain. The only reason thing that keeps him from villain-status in people’s minds is that he’s the playable character. Kratos on the other hand isn’t a traditional hero by any means (he’s way more villainous than Joel ever was) but he does fit the traditional Greek “Tragic Hero.”

Whelp, not only did y'all misspell 'Damning' in the #2 spot on the list, but you're also 100% incorrect about the point in general. Ellie physically cannot be the only person born with an immunity in her generation. That would mean that humanity was already fucked anyway. If there was one person, just one, who had the key to salvation from an apocalypse-causing fungal infection that made the species jump from small insects and animals to humans (Cordyceps fungus is a real thing for those who didn't know, can't imagine that's a lot by this point, but there you are), then there wouldn't be enough of their genetic coding to salvage (in blood or brain matter) to make vaccines for the entire species. I've said this point before, but I'll sum it up here: Ellie's blood, not her brain, holds the key to the vaccine, because she did not undergo the typical process of events when she was bitten. The infection was halted in her bloodstream before it could amplify through the rest of her body, spinal column, and brain stem. Ergo, killing her to harvest her brain for the cure wasn't going to work in the first place. The larger point is that she is not the only one, but a trend in evolution that has sprung up to ensure the survival of the species. There HAVE to be more people from her generation born with the same immunity, or those from future generations will have them, but she cannot be the sole person immune on the entire planet. Logistically speaking, it's impossible. Otherwise, humanity would die out anyway from lack of a cure and, more importantly, lack of a hope to survive BECAUSE of the lack of a cure.

Joel never claimed to be any kind of hero, he’s just a man trying to survive in a horrible world, I don’t think he really belongs in this list. The Last of Us tells the story of humanity, not the story of heroics. I don’t know a single friend who played the Last of Us and wasn’t absolutely on board with saving Ellie no matter the cost. This game isn’t about saving humanity, it was about explaining it. Everyone knows it’s wrong but it shows you what people are willing to do.

honourable mentions should include: forging the one-earth regime in the very first place (superman in injustice: gods among us), ditching donald and goofy to desperatly save naminé (sora in kh: chain of memories), ignoring master eraqus's warnings (terra in kh: birth by sleep), killing either only galeem or dharkon (all heroes and villains in super smash bros. ultimate), using the venom costume WAY too many times (spidey in spiderman: web of shadows), trying to fight "ada" recklessly (chis redfield in resident evil 6), becoming maleficent's sidekick (riku in the first kingdom hearts game) and leaving batman (batman: arkham city)

One honorable mention should go to Shujinko for aiding the Dragon King in his quest for power. In MK: Deception, he was tricked by Onaga into believing he'd been working towards a greater good when he was really giving evil the power it needed to destroy the world, and he'd been doing it none the wiser for 40+ years. Interestingly, Shujinko in Japanese translates to "protagonist" or "hero". Ironic as the end of his quest yielded nothing that people would call heroic in the slightest.

Why didn’t Zelda from OoT make this list? She sends Link back as a child to an alternate timeline for no reason other than to ‘give him his childhood back’, which screws up the timeline that he left, leaving no hero to defend it, Ganons eventual release from the seal and resulting in Wind Waker (flooding of Hyrule) Link on the other side of the timeline that he was sent back to also dies alone and full of regrets due to not being remembered for his achievements, eventually becoming the Heroes Shade from Twilight Princess. All thanks to Zelda sending him back. ‘Give him back his childhood’ led to nothing but misery for him. Zelda in OoT screwed up EVERYTHING in TWO TIMELINES

To be fair, the Metroids needed to be kept in check. Samus Returns shows the events that led up to Metroids taking over their planet. And to top it off, the space pirates were going to use the Metroids as a weapon. Yes, it brought back the X-Parasites, but I think the remaining SA-X could make a return for a future game as an ally of Samus.

I believe Joel did the right thing, saving Ellie from the fireflies and taking everything away from the world cause the world took his daughter away from him. and Btw I think the world would've stopped believing in a cure I mean it's been 20yrs the apocalypse has been going on for.

@@akhilgigu Again what does that have to do with anything? Just because it's optional doesn't mean that it isn't cruel. While there are characters on the list that aren't hero's. (Don't blame me I didn't make the video.) Putting any GTA character wouldn't make sense even if it's optional your still a criminal when it comes down to it.

That was Joel's most heroic moment. Joel lost his daughter and saw a new one in ellie he doesn't want her to be sacrificed for a futile effort. He saw what has become of humanity (Murderers) so why give up his chance to be happy and live with ellie

I agreed with all of them except for 2 when Joel’s saves Ellie there is a number of problems with this like how are you going to spread the cure over the entire earth and how do you not know that there are more people who can’t be infected like there could be more and again how do you know that just cause she resistance to the infection how do you know taking it from Ellie with then allow you to create a cure

I predict in the last of us 2 that ellie is going to somehow find out that joel killed all those fireflies and damned all of humanity just to save her, and shes gonna get super pissed off at him and leave him.

I’m pretty sure Joel wouldn’t have been damning humanity. Wasn’t it mentioned in the game that several immune folk had already been through the same procedure and it never worked? Ellie wouldn’t have made a difference.

Speaking about Kratos, he was never a Hero to begin with, its in God of War 4 when he indeed starts to become one.

Actually he's a anti hero so yeah. By the way the gods were never good people, heck even before pandora's box was opened they stole kratos' brother and had him tortured. They even made kratos mother keep the secret of their family. And after the box was opened they just got worse by turning his mother into a monster, being abusive to their love ones and by humiliating and beating one of their own.

People need to realize this about Joel and Ellie situation. Regardless if the cure worked or not. Humanity would never be the same and who's to say what the Fireflies would do with the cure. I doubt they would distribute it to everyone they're not good people. The answer is not always so clear especially in the scenario and world Joel is in. It's not always black and white but more grey, especially in this case.

Shay's earthquake was an expected and accepted result hunting pieces of Eden, painting the assassins in a very bad light. sure he got a little hotheaded, but he could not stand by and let them make the same sacrifice again. He did what he believed was best for the sake of all humanity, even if he had to betray his friends. this intentionality and makes him a hero, and he is only a villain when put against the context of having previously been on the other side, as players.

Joel didn't do something bad. He did justice by preventing Ellie's surgery. He made justice and raised a big middle finger to the world. On 2013, the world took Joel's daughter away from him. Now, on 2033, Joel takes the world's daughter by rescuing Ellie. I think he did something heroic, worst at the same time, but heroic.

Joel is no hero, he’s a survivor. He somebody who survive 20 years into the apocalypse because he’s not afraid to do the hard things and live with the consequences.

Where's the decision, in Heavy Rain, on choosing to murder the Drug Dealer? In Heavy Rain, you literally have choose to flat-out murder the Drug Dealer as: 1) begs for his life, and 2) points out that fact that he's dealing drugs to help support his two young daughters, even showing you a photo of them. You only want to save Shaun from a serial killer, and you have to actively choose to murder a man that also has kids that will likely find out their father was brutally murdered. You don't have to murder the Drug Dealer if you want to save Shaun in the end, especially making the murder completely cruel and pointless.
