Jude the Obscure tops all of these, in my opinion. Does really well here in the Central Valley, California, even with temps hovering above 110 degrees. People walk by it and can't get over how beautifully fragrant it is. The scent is like no other. Just heavenly. Very healthy plant that thrives in the heat.

Abraham Darby hasn’t been a great bloomer after the first big may flush for us, but I put my nose between 2 of his full petals and decided he was out most fragrant out of dozens of DAs including most of what you have in this list.

I have the Abraham Darby rose and love the fragrance and appearance of the flowers. It's blooming strongly this year. My only quibble with it is that the blooms don't last very long and fade in colour as time goes on. The flowers are heavy and the stalks are often weak so the flower often heads flop. Another rose with stronger stems and a flower colour that does not fade and flowers that last longer, is Brother Cadfael. Also the young leaves are red before they go green and that looks very attractive.

In my opinion the most fragrant austin roses are the wollerton old hall, jude the obscure, jubilee celebration, heritage.

I have Wollerton Old Hall and Jude the Obscure and I totally agree, the scent is gorgeous and can be smelt from metres away around the garden

Strawberry hill, Ambridge and Evelyn are also very fragrant

I have Evelyn and I agree about the fragrance, but the plant itself is a bit weak.

Bishop'scastle from David Austin is also the other one that have very strong perfume smell and easy to grow.

I’ve just planted 4 David Austin Roses & have 7 more on the way.. 💞😍🌹and not one of mine are the same as this list, my favourite David Austin Rose is Pierre de Ronsard, but they were sold out so I have to wait until next years stock comes out

Hannah Zen pierre de ronsard wasnt bred by DA. it’s a french bred rose. DA also carries other old roses not bred by DA such as “New Dawn”. the Pieere de Ronsard is a pretty popular rose so i think u should be able to find it from other sellers as well.

pierre de Ronsard was bred my Meilland, nothing to do with David A.

@@sonievkay well thank-you, you learn something new every day! 😉👍🏽 my DA ‘Jude the Obscure ‘ is in flower at the moment I wish I could post a pic, it’s absolutely gorgeous, it’s cream, to peach, to soft pink all in one little cabbage cup rose and the gorgeous scent I can smell from my deck about 4-5 mts away..

Hannah Zen its no problem^^ Jude the obscure! im very envious of you! ive known about that rose for a while now but kept threwing it off from purchasing. its a real popular rose and it’s very gorgeous. i need to grab one soon before they decide to stop producing them (considering its a 1995 bred).

Where can these be purchased? Everywhere I look all they sell around here are knockout roses. I'm frustrated that no other varieties are ever offered. Knockouts or nothing. Sheesh!

I find the best prices for David Austin and Kordes roses to be The Antique Rose Emporium. I just got 7 more roses from them today!!!! :-)

I bought my David Austin roses from their U.S. website (I'm in the U.S.). You can order either a bare-root rose, or a small already grown potted rose (it will be very small). The bare root rose looks very bare when you get it, just twigs, but it grows beautifully, better than an already potted rose, for me anyway.
