"Who says horror has to be dark and gloomy?" One of my favorite examples of horror working despite the lack of constant doom and gloom is The Legend of Boggy Creek.

I was so hoping forbidden planet was going to get recognized. I actually caught this movie late one night and was like alright when it gets sci fi cheesey I'll watch something else. I ended up watching the entire movie. Later I told my pops that I seen a great sci fi 50s 60s flick and told him forbidden planet and he told me it's his favorite movie.

Another reason "Forbidden Planet" was a groundbreaker was because it was patterned after Shakespear's "The Tempest," which is a concept that caught on in all manner of genres. "West Side Story" was an update of "Romeo & Juliet," then by some point, Hollywood just started making Shaksepear movies in the modern era.

This review, however, has reached a new level of sophistication. All I can say is... "WOW!" Intelligent, insightful and excellent choices in your sub-genres. You've saved the best for your last Monster Madness series, it seems; all eleven reviews have so far been outstanding! Thank you for everything you've given us in these reviews (and your other series', of course). I have your videos on all the time; it's like listening to an old friend you're very comfortable with. My local indie/art house theater does the usual October horror movie nights but this year they announced they'll be showing the Tingler! When I commented something about how I would have loved to see that in the 50's with all the Castle gimmicks they replied "Don't worry, we have plenty of surprises in store for that movie" I'm almost as stoked for this as I was getting to see my all time favorite movie, Halloween, on the big screen there. Thanks for all your shows.

Forbidden Planet is awesome! It is still one of my favorite movies even today (even if effects are bad). But two thing: 1) He didn't created machine! It was alien supercomputer what wipe out its creators and Morbius only find and activated it. 2) It is funny that they try make Robie appear as potential villain when he is in fact a positive character. Red Herring indeed..

interesting fact: the beast from 20,000 fathoms did not inspire he original japanese version of godzilla because both films were made only a few months apart of each other. it's just pure chance they were made almost at the same time. that movie did however inspire for the Americanized version to be made 2 years later because sci-fi monster movies were profitable at the time. i think that is where people get confused.

You should really do a video on Ray Harryhausen at some point. Like a top 10 creatures, or movies, or even just a video talking about his collective work. His influence on movies and future film makers who came after him is undeniable.

The image you used of the monster from 20,000,000 Miles to Earth is legitimately terrifying. It made want to buy the movie.

I've only ever seen The Fly from 1958 and not the remake and it's one of my fav horror films, I should definitely get around to watching Goldbloom get mutated as well The original is on Netflix if anyone wants to watch it!

This is a great crash course in classic sci-fi. I'm taking a Science Fiction Film course at the moment and you've hit almost all the films we watch in class.

Watching this has reminded me of "The Misfits - Famous Monsters", which is a great album with some great tracks and after seeing "Them!" on your list I now have that song in my head.
