repost due to overlooked but tabulated data.. thanks RR
Historically (late 1800's) the term "Skyscraper" referred to buildings that were between 10-20 stories. Modern sources typically define skyscrapers as being either 100m(328ft) or 150m(492ft), however there is no universally accepted definition. The most extensive database concerning worldwide building information generally uses 100m(328ft) as the standard, therefore we used the 100m marker.
There is even greater variation in the definition of the term "Highrise". Considering the fact that it is becoming increasingly rare for any building shorter than 45m(approximating150ft) to be categorized as a "highrise" we use the marker of 45m to denote highrise. In generally there are significant inconsistencies in the databases concerning this designation (not only among cities within the same country, but intracity also ). More recently, most new buildings under 45m(approx 150ft) are generally categorized as "Lowrise".
Usually City A will literally have hundreds of buildings between 31-45m classified as highrise ; City B will literally have hundreds of buildings between 31-45m (with the same floor count) all classified as lowrise. Oddly, City A will have also have a hundred buildings in the same range (31m-45m) classified as lowrise. The amount of variations in this datafield is remarkable.
Moreover, there should be a global push amongst those who maintain skyline databases to standardize the terms used in the industry.
For all practical purpose, I suggest adding two new terms to the lexicon; "Skyrise " and also "Starscraper" instead of supertall.
Lowrise for buildings under 49m
Highrise for buildings 50m to 99m
"Skyrise" for buildings 100m - 149m
Skyscraper for buildings 150m-299m
"Starscraper" for buildings 300m and greater

I agree with Atlanta cranes are everywhere. Also building sandy springs. I’d love to see more transit around the city going to suburbs and taller buildings going by corridors of major freeways.

Austin and Miami are the only cities that have drastically changed in the last several decades. The other cities on here are indeed impressive as well. What I'm more impressed is how Austin just completely went gangbusters. I don't think any city expected NYC or Miami has completely transformed it skyline the way Austin has.

thanks for viewing.. Actually there are quite a few cities that did extremely well over the last several decades. Miami, Austin yes.. also Boston ,Atlanta, Philadelphia and Seattle .. even the expected cities, NYC and Chicago, did well. Philadelphia had the most dramatic change in height with its tallest building surpassing ATL, LA and SanFran. (ATL ,for 25 yrs. had the tallest building outside of NYC and Chicago)

Lol. You must be from Austin, or haven't driven through other booming cities like Atlanta. I traveled through most of the cities listed, and I can tell you that Atlanta won't stop until thier third only behind New York, and Chicago. There seems to be more biuldings being biult than biuldings that are already there..

@@proconjon4208 You must be from Atlanta. While it great to see Atlanta going to a building boom, it's not going to overtake Houston, let alone Miami in the foreseeable future. As for Austin, it's quickly gaining on bigger cities such as Denver, Minneapolis, Detroit in terms of shear towers.
@TheSkylineKing
@TheSkylineKing Жыл бұрын
@@AdventureGuy88 actually in terms of sheer number of towers in the metro area and in the CBD, Atlanta has already overtaken Houston.. In terms of sheer number of buildings in just the downtown, Austin has surpassed Houston also.. Houston has a lot of development outside of its downtown(AtL has even more) . Houston basically competes directly with Dallas for the same corporate and regional developments ( only 3hr drive ); and less so with Austin which is in a different tier. Atlanta closest direct competitors are Miami, DC, Dallas, and Houston (all 8-12 hrs away ); and less so with second tiers, Charlotte and Nashville..

The view is great, but many out of state & tourists don't realize Atlanta has about 3 seperate skylines one in Downtown, Midtown & Buckhead & steady growing. It could be much better just like anywhere else & Atlanta definitely has the funds and so much potential.. I'd be nice to see atleast 14 more big ones built yes 14 each being about 800ft-1,700ft or taller & 12 more med sized ones 300-700ft to fill in the gaps between Downtown/Midtown & the large gap from Midtown up to Buckhead has no big buildings. Also over on the west side north of the Benz stadium where it's just lacking buildings could use some *(hopefully Centennial yards go as planned).* Atlanta would then officially be a top 3 city in the US *(going off tallest US buildings & looks)*

There has been a string of highrises down Peachtree Street, so it may be possible. Then again, I'm not so certain the neighborhood of Garden Hills in the Buckhead area would want that, as it really seems to be the only area between the two without much of any highrises.

Miami is truly becoming the US next mega skyline , however Miami’s buildings are more dispersed along its waterfront . Atlanta is experiencing a lot of skyline growth in its central core with quite a few 35-40 story residential high-rises and skyscrapers being built in its midtown/downtown area . Any developer wanting a view will have to build 45 stories or better. Rockefeller Group has launched a 60stories, 733ft + tower. In terms of total skyscrapers , Atlanta , at its current trajectory, will easily surpass all but NYC, Chicago, and Miami within 10-12 years.
@laryanryan9170
@laryanryan9170 Жыл бұрын
Atlanta developers don't have the financing for supertalls. They're only interested in residential towers in the 30-40 story range. NYC developers like Rockefeller's 60 story tower are the only developers who will build that tall in Atlanta.
@TheSkylineKing
@TheSkylineKing 10 ай бұрын
@@laryanryan9170 Atlanta is rated #1 in the world ( Austin #2) for forthcoming investment from global real estate investors. I think the Rockefeller Tower will easily show that there is a significant demand for dwellings with loftier views.

@@TheSkylineKing For decades the good old boys in Georgia didn't want foreign investors to build anything in Georgia. Remember when Andrew Young called them "a bunch of smartass white boys who think they know everything"? That's what he was referring too because he knew rich investors all over the world who wanted to build in Atlanta.

I live in Nashville… your stats are wrong for Nashville. On our local news just last week they said there are 43 total skyscrapers and high rise’s being built. I counted over 15 cranes just two days ago. Where did you get your numbers??
@TheSkylineKing
@TheSkylineKing 10 ай бұрын
As always, these type of list are fluid ( 7 months old video on construction) . Your local news reported 43 upcoming towers (proposed and under construction).Cranes do not automatically mean highrise/skyscraper, they are used for mid-rises also; some towers also use 2 or more cranes. We currently list 18 towers/highrises currently under construction; however with the number of towers scheduled to be completed in 2023 that number is likely lower. I lived in a Nashville for several years, so I follow its development very closely. The amount of growth that has occurred there is impressive.

As mentioned in the first few seconds of the video , this list is about buildings under construction in the primary zone (within 10 miles of city center). DC area has skylines in Bethesda, Arlington, Alexandria, Silver Springs, Rosslyn and Tysons Corner. Collectively they have 117 buildings over 200ft (including 28 buildings over 300ft) . In comparison , Indianapolis has 38buildings over 200ft (with only 12 buildings over 300ft)38/12. Just Tysons Corner alone has 31/11 , Rosslyn has 39/9. The DC area is no slouch for highrises
