Lord of the Rings a movie during it's time that was thought impossible to film and had every major Hollywood studio reject it until New Line Cinema but ended up being a masterpiece of a trilogy and with Return of the King being the last movie to have swept the Oscar with 11-0 win tying Ben Hur and Titanic for most win at the Oscar. Even after 20 years it still holds up today.

@supratrd900 it was as an animated film in the late 70's before, obviously I would call it more experimental.

I just finished watching Lord of the Rings trilogy (extended versions) last August when I was sick. I’m not a fan of fantasy genre but it all kinda changed after watching LOTR. The movie was ahead of its time. Everything about this trilogy was epic. I really regret that I didn’t watch it sooner but it’s better late than never.

I’m glad The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe made it on here. Disney did a good job with their adaptation. I liked Love, Simon more than its source material, and there were quite a few differences between the book and movie.

It's been tried adapting the entirety of the series before. BBC did a TV miniseries in the 80s. They made it through Silver Chair (book 4 if counting release order). Disney tossed their money at it and made it through Voyage of the Dawn Treader (3). Their adaptation for Silver Chair has been stuck in development since 2011. Netflix is up next with it's attempt at adapting the whole thing. We'll see...

Chronicles of Narnia, Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings are absolutely fantastic and don’t come as a surprise being on this list. Sure, there are some differences between them and the novels, but many of those differences actually made the film even better and unlike most book to film adaptations, they didn’t take away from the story’s overall theme or quality, which to me, is the most important part.

Fun fact about holes: in the book Stanley actually starts out overweight and loses weight as he spends time in the camp. When it came to the move Luis Sachar LOVED Shia LaBeouf and WANTED him for the role of Stanley. However LaBeouf was skinny. Sachar ended up rewriting Stanley’s character for the movie because he refused to make a young child rapidly gain weight and lose it just for the movie, and he felt a fat suit would not look realistic enough. Sachar truly was a good guy when it came to making that movie!

What about 'Mean Girls' adapted from the book Queen Bees and Wannabes? The screenplay is based in part on Rosalind Wiseman's 2002 book. The 2004 American teen comedy film directed by Mark Waters, written by Tina Fey + starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried (in her film acting debut), Tim Meadows, Ana Gasteyer, Amy Poehler + Fey. Surrounding female teen cliques + the quest to understand the American High school by Cady Heron who has being home schooled in Africa by her parents while they conducted animal behaviour research.

To me, Harry Potter is number one, but I get why LotR is number one in this list. My top 3 would be Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Pride & Prejudice, but I would've included somewhere in this list "Me Before You" and I think Twilight should be here too, despite a lot of people hate this story, it was pretty succesful... Now, can we have a list of Top 20 WORST book to movie adaptations of the century and talk about the disaster they did with THE HOST (Stephenie Meyer)? They completely ruined that story that I love so much and I still hold a grudge with that lol.

No way, the movie was a terrible adaptation of the book (which itself was a fairly good adaptation of the radio plays, which are the best version), removing most of the best humour. The miniseries was good. The movie was Americanized, and would seem good if someone wasn't very familiar with the source materials. Note that you are entitled to your own opinion and feelings, but it is a minority one in this particular case.
@saranonimus9211
@saranonimus9211 6 ай бұрын
@lightbearer313 the idea of making a movie out of that book/series was arguably ill-advised. It would seem an impossible task. That's why I found the movie version impressive for what they were able to do. I find it more impressive than adaptations of Austen or Shakespeare that end up as more or less pre-written and succeed or fail in the casting.

Each of the adaptations I've seen I saw the films first, my elder brother despised the first 4 Harry Potter films since he read the books first then that changed with the 5th book and he preferred the adaptation. The Lord Of The Rings trilogy well he was certainly a fan of the books so he didn't hate the trilogy he just wasn't pleased witn some changes. Obviously The Lord Of The Rings films were my childhood. I liked the books but it was a difficult processes because I was so used to the films. I've only read the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book all the way through. The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe out of nostalgia I like the BBC mini series that's how I became familiar with the Narnia world and I like the film version for different reasons. I actually prefer Gone Girl the film since I only read the book afterwards.

Fight Club, Green Mile, and Shawshank are from the 1900s. The list was talking about movies from this century.

No Country For Old Men won multiple Academy Awards! Cormac McCarthy + Coen Brothers?? Should've been #1.

"Best book to movie adaptations made in this century." She mistakenly then says "books released since 2000" when I believe she meant to say movies released since 2000 -because there's multiple books like Pride & Predudice, Lord of the Rings, etc. on this list that sure the heck weren't written in this century! You must of overlooked them eh? Or did you not watch it?

I personally felt underwhelmed by the HP movie adaptations. Left out tons of details and messed up a lot of characters.

R u effin’ kidding me?! No Divergent?!?! The last two might’ve strayed a bit from the book but the 1st movie was a solid adaptation to the first book & many book fans can agree to that!!!😤
