Well, according to TV Tropes, you get a continue screen with Patrick alone in SpongeBob's house wondering where everyone is on his birthday. That's sad enough but it gets worse when you realize that if SpongeBob was in charge of handing out invitations then if he wasn't able to, it means that he *died on his journey!* Which leaves Patrick all alone in SpongeBob's house since he isn't around anymore and quite possibly wasn't able to feed Gary (or since Gary was also on SpongeBob's journey, he might have suffered a similar fate as his owner since he probably couldn't be taken home safely.)

I totally agree, those disturbing images made me cover my eyes whenever the game over popped up.

What happens in the game over screen?
@revanreborn96584 жыл бұрын
@@dafilmqueen556 so what happens is that you get quick flashes of random images. 3 of the images show a woman who has black ooze dripping out of her eyes and each image gets progressively grotesque

@@revanreborn9658 yeah, not to mention the fact that each player you play with, whether it is as Imogen or Herber, has there own set of nightmarish pictures that you see when they die. That is one hell of a detail given by Frictional games, but on the other hand, it's scary...

Honestly, the game over sceens that shocked me the most was the Final Fight series. I just can't even imagine a much more brutal death in the series.

You can go even earlier than Ninja Gaigan. In Frogger, seeing a skull and crossbones whenever he gets hit by a car or drowned or eaten by an alligator was pretty disturbing. And The Oregon Trail, seeing my own tombstone as “Tapps” played traumatized me for much of childhood.

Some of these entries were weak. Here are some better ones: Friday the 13th Donkey Kong Country (more gloomy than disturbing, at least better than Spongebob) Age of Decadence I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream Alien: Isolation

Oh hell yes. I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream is nightmare fuel from beginning to end. Can’t believe they left that and Chrono Trigger out.

@@Rainman316pwns,in which way are both game over screens disturbing?I simply ask.Yes,I'm more of a movie fan than a video game player in almost every way,and I am also hyper sensitive about content I watch,but I ask because I love watching video game related content too,so I would love some insight too.

Stephy The Bride I Have No Mouth is an old-school horror point and click game from the 90’s. Something about the early graphics really gets to me. It’s also basically about an AI that destroyed humanity and left a few alive just to torture them. Really creepy stuff. With Chrono Trigger, there’s a lot of time travel involved. You’re trying to save the future from a planet-eating monster. If you lose the final battle, it destroys the planet and you see it happen through the eyes of the people in the future. Then you hear its roar and you get a screen of the planet going dark with the words “...But The Future Refused To Change.” It’s really heavy stuff in the context of the game.

Only game over I ever recall legitimately scaring me was Shadow Gate. My brother used to purposely kill himself in the game just to tease me as a kid.

Why wasn't the death scene in Metroid Prime 2 included? In this scene, the main character's suit fails as she undergoes cardiac arrest with nobody to help her and a rapid alarm sound playing until she dies and you are left on an even more disturbing black screen with no music offering you to continue from last save.
