“Seriously, what is up with the cartoons of the 90’s?” Because those shows still have a hell lot more dignity to their ballsy nature compared to a lot of today’s cartoons. (aside from a few good gems here & there like Adventure Time, Amazing World of Gumball, Regular Show, etc.)

And it's interesting to note that since they're "turtles". A lot of people gloss over the "teenage" part. And in a lot of situations that they find themselves in, if you swap it with a teenaged child a lot of their situations are pretty messed up
@COMPFUNK2
@COMPFUNK2 5 ай бұрын
The thing that always confused me is that they claim to be teenagers, but when you look up their ages, they’re all in their 20s (well, that’s how they were depicted in the Turtles in Time video game, anyway).
@starscreamthecruel8026
@starscreamthecruel8026 4 ай бұрын
@@COMPFUNK2 there was an episode where Michealangelo got turned into a human kid the same age as him and he's about 15 but realises he cannot do any of the cool stuff he can do as a turtle in the same age group and has to find a way to go back. He was wishing in the beginning to be human, so he could have friends, hang out above ground and get a gf. By the end of the episode, he realises, its a lot more fun to be a teenage TURTLE not human.

You know the problem with a lot of these is you’re looking at this through the eyes of adults, not kids. I grew on Biggles books and Goosebumps and such. This is fun for kids. It was fun and I never suffered. Adults just don’t get it. Kids love these.
@Heather_no_numbers
@Heather_no_numbers 5 ай бұрын
I agree. Adults have a certain way of looking at things that cause us to overthink a simple cartoon. I remember loving the heck out of Rocco's Modern Life and it is just as dark as some of the content shown here. And the Secret Life of Alex Mack was so fun! I wanted those powers! I didnt look at the government stalking her every move. We think too much these days.

I think adults do get it since adults wrote, produced, animated, and acted in/voiced these, lol. But neither kids nor adults are monolithic, so some kids weren't into Goosebumps or even cartoons, while some adults still geek out over all of these shows.

I think about the teletubbies sometimes. Theory A: They are the children of an alien species that have stranded on a planet after a crash of their parents' spaceship. Their "house" is actually a part of it. Over time it has been covered with grass. The food they eat are the emergency reserves from the ship. Theory B: The Teletubbie Land is actually a preschool for orphants in an alien world. That's why everything looks so artificial and why there is this weird sun

I don’t know if it was considered a child or teen show, but this obscure Canadian show called The Odyssey was pretty dark. The premise was a kid named Jay fell off a treehouse cable hit his head was in a coma and dreamt up this entire world where kids never grew up. Then when he woke up from the coma he still had flashes of the other world. Sadly it ended on a cliffhanger and viewers never found out what happened when the two worlds collided.

I’m suprised that the show mega babies hasn’t popped up on this area for being over the top gross humor but I liked it a lot. In the cartoon of Beetlejuice. Lydia is the best friend of a poltergeist named Beetlejuice who she goes on wacky, and freaky, adventures with in a place called the Neatherworld. A place kinda like a cross between the underworld, From Billy and Mandy, and the Ghost Zone from Danny Phantom. Speaking of that's another one that's kinda dark. In Danny Phanom, a kid gains superpowers after a machine in his basement fused his D.N.A. with Ghost D.N.A. Otherwise known as Protoplasum.

As much as I love watching SpongeBob SquarePants, does it count? Considering that 1 theory where the reason the sea creatures of Bikini Bottom are sentient and behave like humans is because of what happened to Bikini Atoll having an effect on them too

Wasn't that actually confirmed by series creator Stephen Hildebrand?

I grew up on watching 90's and early 2000's shows on Nick and Cartoon Network. Those were my shows. Loved them. Still do. And I watched Goosebumps when I was extremely young. I was 3. Yet I remember watching the episode with the living dummies. That was the first memory of a tv episode I have and actually might be the first memory I have of anything. Now that's disturbing. And I can say without a doubt I did not turn out ok.

Goosbumps was scary to me, but I loved Courage the Cowardly Dog, and I knew alot of people who liked Invader Zim. 90's and early 2000's cartoons knew how to entertain.

I loved "Infinity Train", though it was definitely edgier and darker than your average kids' show. I liked the concept of working through past traumas, and wish that it had lasted for longer.

A lot of these shows sure have balls. Was my generation tougher in that time, or do today's teens just watch whatever they like to find online?

Um, the list mentioned AAH! Real Monsters, who scare kids for assignments. That's no worse than Pixar's Monsters Inc. who's monsters terrified kids for energy. Now that's dark.🤨
