I just discovered your channel and subscribed! Thank you for the list. It was a good one for sure. I've been an outdoor, and indoor gardener for close to 30 years. I still like to grab new information and learn the most modern ways to keep plants thriving. My family recently moved to Kentucky from San Francisco, CA. I had a potted tree fern that I kept outside on our porch. They are indeed beautiful and unique. And actually very, very easy to grow. They are not fussy about much. However, those little "hairs" you see on the fronds? They are irritating to the skin if you brush against the plant. The "hairs" dry up as the fronds mature and drop on whomever brushes against them and they are itchy!! I just wanted to let you and your viewers know that it's probably best to put it in a spot indoors where no one will brush against it.

If you have a few plants that need distilled water save yourself the hassle and go to a pet store or Amazon or Walmart and order yourself a bottle of "Stresscoat" it's used on aquariums but it condish. your water and it saves you from endlessly buying distilled water by the gallon. Just buy a bottle and you add a small amount to a gallon pitcher at home and it lasts you for months and its also great from keeping your Spider plant from getting brown tips.

You can also use the zero water filter system. It's what I use for my carnivorous plants. Of course, you have to stay on top of measuring the water, so you know when to change the filter. After a while, you know how many weeks or months until it has to change.

For the doubters…it’s amazing what you can bring indoors if you just put some effort in. I overwintered the following in my south facing bedroom, dining room and living room: three banana plants (one was six feet tall), four monstera, two very large bird of paradise, two dracena, three arabica bushes, three hibiscus, two Christmas palms, one Cara Cara orange, one lime, and one plumeria. This year, I bought two cheap, grow lights on Amazon and some neem oil. Everybody survived and are back outside for the summer. I started four years ago with just one or two mid size plants, which grew and yielded cuttings and pups, then I added more each summer.

Totally. It’s not as easy as just putting them inside anywhere and watering the same as you would outside. You gotta put in some effort and actually think about what you’re doing. I think a lot of people aren’t really putting much thought into it lol. I have a ton of stuff outside that I bring in for the Winter as well - I’ve got a cara cara too! My favorite orange!!

Watching your channel is like sitting out on the porch with someone very knowledgeable enjoying a great real person chat without all the typical hype of most You-tubers. Also love that each segment shows the plant's name in writing unlike, again, many YT's yapping away and you're left with no idea of what the name of the plant, ingredient, etc is, much less how to spell it to be able to look it up later online. I simply love the format you've put together and enjoy your channel so much. I look forward to more of your videos 🌞 All the best to you!

D: Dracaena (snake plants are now under this family) deserves more respect. They have a TON of variation and varieties. The variegated versions NEED that light since they have less chlorophyll. While many of these may survive in low light, these listed plants won’t thrive in low light. Also, please!!!!! Identify what “low light” REALLY means. Most new growers version of low light is a death sentence for all of these plants. Grow bulbs. FULL SPECTRUM LED bulbs are your friend. People can replace their home bulbs with these. They aren’t weird blue, are bright and can supply the needed light for “low light.” Lastly, help peeps know that variegated plants can permanently lose their variegation in low light.

Few plants will survive (definitely not thrive) in a dark room like a windowless bathroom for example…maybe a Golden Pothos, but if you give it some light, like a grow bulb in your bathroom light fixture, you can definitely keep low light plants happy

Glad I happened on your video today. I've always had trouble keeping plants alive. I love leaves and my son always buys me a beautiful selection of 3 or 4 plants in one container for my birthday. I really don't have a good set-up for plants. First floor bay windows, North and East walls, have electric baseboard heating just below them. From June through September, the heat is off; so no problem. The East window is deep enough where I can place pots on the sill. Once the heat comes on, it's a devastating atmosphere for the plants. My condo is small and there's no place to move the plants. It kills me because I love plants and flowers. I see people mentioned grow bulbs here. Sounds like an option. I'm concerned about an increase in electricity costs. I will investigate. Happy birthday to your partner. Thank her for sharing you with us. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm in making a better environment around us. Greatly appreciated. All the best for your channel. ❤

I took a lot of notes and loved the show….but please spend more time on showing the darn plants and their names instead of having the camera turned on yourself. You can narrate behind the scenes some of the time so we can really get look at the plant and get the spelling of it right, especially since you’re standing in one spot the whole time. Good stuff! But longer pictures!

Thank you so much for this video. I can’t keep plants alive in my house. Most of the rooms are dark and the only plant that I ever had any luck with was the Benjamina or as I’ve heard it called, “weeping fig”! But, it was in front of the dining room window that got the morning sun. I also had one that lasted for years about 10 ft away from that between the living room and dining room that did quite well. Recently I decided I was going to get cactus plants, that was a dismal failure to say the least. Many of the plants you presented are ones that I can certainly get in my area. Again, thank you for sharing!

This was a great list! May I add one more trailing plant good for hanging pots - other than Pothos - that has been a real trooper for years in my home(s). Philodendron Micans are insanely forgiving as far as light is concerned, and they grow super fast. I love them for their dark velvety leaves.

Thank you, great review and interesting unique plants! I see three I’d love to have if only I had enough room! I agree about the snake plant. I’ve had mine for almost 40 years, and it looks gorgeous still. I’ve thinned it out and shared with others over the years, keeping the smaller growth. Then I have an umbrella plant I trained into a tree. I keep it at about 2ft high, has a nice twisty trunk that branches out to two trunks. Love it. That one is same, almost 40! I also use filtered water (I have an RO water filter hooked up at my kitchen sink). And I feed them organic fertilizer with occasional worm casting tea. I’ve a couple of others as old and a plant someone gave me from the 90’s. I recently got a peperomia plant. Not doing great: dries out a lot and doesn’t seem to like indirect light. Supposedly you need to be careful of overwatering, and it seems succulent-like. I think I end up going back and forth-get’s dry fast, then I soak it. Doesn’t seem to like that either. Different needs then other plants I’m used to. I don’t think it will last the summer, especially when it gets hot. Important to choose the right plants-easier if they’ve compatible needs. The others are easy, this one not so much. Maybe I’ll put it in a larger pot with a little more light though.

Wow that is so cool that you have had them for 40 yrs that’s amazing!!! Hope some of my plants make it that long! Peperomias like high humidity, so try treating it almost like a fern. The soil needs to dry out between waterings, but you don’t want the leaves to get too dry. Mist it down every once in a while without getting the soil wet!

I have a pepperomia too and it’s fussy. It’s in a nice sunny window but is always droopy. Hanging on, looks fairly healthy. I, too, did the soaking and drying until I got a self watering pot. Mist it once a week, it’s still fussy.

Some people seem to have interpreted your definition of “low” light as “no” light??? Obviously you’re not recommending keeping these plants in areas of the home that get no light. Duh. My interpretation is that this list is for plant options that do not require being in the prime “bright indirect light” real estate locations inside the house. Personally, I need options for the lower light spaces in my home. Thanks for the suggestion!!

Haha yes exactly thank you!! I didn’t think people would think I’m saying they literally need no light at all. Thanks for watching!

We have a planter outside our front door. It’s set back, so it’s basically shaded all day. The front of my house faces south so no sun reaches my front door. We have tried shade friendly flowering plants but they never flower again. I’m going to try some succulents but if you have any suggestions please let me know. If any of the plants from this video are worth trying, please recommend them. Thanks!

@@akd2227 houseplants will do really well outside in shade during the summer! You can also try fertilizing your shade flowers w some fox farm tiger bloom i bet that would do the trick
