That was my fav part of that movie. I love it when they have either villians or heroes use their BRAINS not their muscles, to win the day. It makes them more real. Sure Dr Strange used magic too but he had to have the intelligence to figure out the time loop would work in the first place.

Shawshank should be 1. The amount of planning, work, and shit (literally) that he had to go through to pull it off was amazing. Plus one of the most satisfying endings to a movie ever.

I’d add giving the mother ship a “cold” in Independence Day, or the way that David used the satellite signals to discern that the aliens started a countdown.

Oh man how can you not include Daniel Day Lewis at the end of The Last of the Mohicans, where he shoots the guys with the muskets and grabs their guns while running so his doesn’t have to reload?! Brilliant even in rewatches.

Superman 2 (1980). The moment when Kal-El/Superman takes on Xod an co at his ice fortress and he steps into the transformation pod so that he retained his powers while they lost theirs. That was very much a 'brains over brawn' move because he was no match for the 3 of his fellow Kryptonians combined.

I have both versions and love both for different reasons. Although the storylines dont quite match up and obviously the special effects are better in one than the other, it still makes them both unique from each other.

That. And I also believe they were spared because they were not the evil Nazis, noting that they were speared through their evil malicious hearts. While Indy and Marion, good-hearted people with no malice in their bodies, were not. The Ark were the Judge and Jury here and eliminated the evil, malicious people there.

6:02 Ripley only had to fight the queen at the end because she foolishly stopped to torch the egg pods while rescuing Newt. She didn't have to do that because the site was being nuked anyway. So...One of the smartest decisions was made after one of the dumbest.

So many great moves😁I love Home Alone!😀Bobby trapping the house is perfect😁Capturing the bus for re-run is great move!😀Using cargo loader against allien queen too :D Indy and Marion closing their eyes when the Arc is opened is very smart move! They are not evil so they were spare. Mcclane taping a gun behind his back is perfect😁I remember when in the fourth the turned the gun to the villain and said"how about yippee-kay-yay mother booom!"Danny whipping the snow trail to hide,Terminator calling dog the wrong name also very smart. Andy's scheme to escape perfect too😀Michael Corleone taking out the competition is brilliant move. Deserving number 1😀

Here are some of my favorites: Raiders of the Lost Ark: Rather than getting into a sword fight with a goon midway through the film, Indiana simply shoots him. Superman II: Superman uses Lex Luthor to trick General Zod & Co into losing their powers. Tomorrow Never Dies: James Bond tricks an assassin into electrocuting himself with Bond's phone/car remote/taser Buffy the Vampire Slayer---OK,t his is from the TV show, but I like the conclusion to Helpless (Season 3), where Buffy tricks a pill-popping vampire to drink holy water.

In the 80's film "FROM THE HIP" it's a court-room thriller with John Hurt as the suspect and Judd Nelson (Breakfast Club) as the brilliant but cocky lawyer who is tasked with getting him acquitted. But he believes Hurt is guilty. He just has to prove it. So he winds him up until Hurt shows his guilt. Its like ' A FEW GOOD MEN' But was done years before.

Riddick wants to get his hands on what's inside a safe but does not know the combination that opens the safe. So he leaves things near the safe that fool the owners into thinking the safe has been opened and emptied and closed, and Riddick hides to watch the owners open the safe which, obviously, gives away the combination that opens it. Red Cliff - When Zhuge Liang o [kongming] of the shu kingdom places a bet with Zhou Yu of wu. Kongming wagers agains Zhou Yu's orders of eliminating one of Cao Caos officers, to kongmings ability to make 100,000 arrows in a few days. Kongmimg cannot possibly do so from scratch, so he uses a few men to outfit a small group of straw covered boats to literary steal the arrows from their enemy. This movie is based on history and real people. There are many moments like this throughout too. ❤

James Bond in Casino Royale transferring a bomb from a fuel truck to the belt of the bad guy. James Bond in The Living Daylights cutting the laces on his boots to make the bad guy fall out of a plane. John McClane in Die Hard giving Hans Gruber an unloaded gun. Or maybe that was a boneheaded decision on the part of Hans Gruber to not notice the gun was lighter.

Booby trapping the house? Yeah, I guess that was smart. Or he could have, you know, just called the cops from the beginning. You know, like he did only after he let them go through all his traps. He could have had the cops have them lie in wait for the thieves, but decided to let them go through his house of horrors first... because. I wouldn't exactly call that smart. Amusing, impressive, but not smart.

I’d argue on Home Alone’s only because while it got the bad guys in sticky situations and stalled them on what they came there to do, he also made it a death trap for his family/mom when they/she returned. I haven’t seen the movie fully to know if the whole family returned with the mom or not but I know the premise enough to say this

Entertaining list, but I feel like you guys spent 10 minutes putting it together. A lot of these "smart" decisions are just plot points executed by intelligent characters. There are so many films where the decisions are so brilliant, we never even saw them coming
