It would be really nice to know the criteria you used to compose this rankings list. Seeing schools like Michigan State and Illinois-Chicago on this list and leaving out Florida, Georgia, Purdue, and Ohio State just seems a little off when they are always ranked higher on every other list. It would seem like Top 15 schools on other lists like Florida and Georgia should make every list of the top public universities.

Terrible ranking. UC Berkeley is by far the best public university in the world. They have had more Nobel laureates than any other school except Harvard. They are ranked among the top 10 rankings by most reputable organizations. They are ranked 4 or 6 by global or reputation. Since when U of Michigan, UCLA, & UNC are better than Berkeley. Berkeley has generated more Nobel laureates than these 3 schools combined.

First of all, it is hire not higher. Secondly, the teaching quality of an institution is very much reflected in its alumni success and Berkeley alums are amongst the most successful & accomplished alumni bases.@@davidmaher8365

there are exchange programs for US / EU students to study in China, and are quite popular. But these are large countries with limited resources and relatively closed culture, they don't tend to be opened to outside students.

Why don’t you learn how to pronounce La Jolla and Annapolis properly. It would add more credibility to your comments. And you should check your facts regarding the different campuses of the University of California. You will find out why Irvine is consistently ranked similar or higher than Davis, Santa Barbara, etc.

@@joliettraveler VERY INTERESTING! By apples-and-oranges, do you mean the two disciplines cannot be practically compared? If that's what you mean, I am not sure I agree? Let's take your example. I am willing to bet most people would agree a graduate degree in engineering is conceptually more difficult than classes and exams associated with a CPA. The way to measure is how many CPA's would fail out of grad school engineering and vice versa. I bet there are FAR more CPA's who'd fail grad school engineering than the other way around. Of course, it's not a scientific assessment and I am not referencing any formal studies. But my intuition is almost always correct on such matters. I am guessing your intuition would draw the same (albeit unscientific?) conclusion? You should have a "feel" since you've done both. So, how do you reply?

Whether it’s academics or sports, location or prestige, there is no legitimate ranking that would put Michigan over Berkeley or UCLA. And Virginia should at least go head to head with Michigan.
