Bought my guitar a week ago. I pretty much been doing what you've said, before seeing your video. Starting practicing Em & Am. 4 of each in a row, to practice getting faster changes. Going to A wasn't always clean. So thank you, neeeded to hear that's ok. Yes, I'm one of the older learners, so I'll be doing the finger exercises.

I got in touch with music instruments when l was younger because of my brother who use too playing me guitar to get me to sleep.years later l came to know couple of fingers riffs that l play with french song melody but l didn't know to read notes or writings solfège.growing up l bought guitars and still didn't learn more just picking up once in while.and suddenly out of nowhere that l am much older we feel little younger retired and hearing some nostalgia from 60 70.came back l bought an other guitar and books again and l pay more attention than l used to be.and watching videos l think I m exactly doing what you're showing in this video and am glad to find some experienced person to get some lessons from. l 'll keep watching thank you a lot teacher .

The advice in this video is priceless and should be obligatory for all beginners! I started learning guitar in my mid 60s and did the spider exercises and 1 minute chord changes but would have much preferred the 3 finger spiders as I found it a huge stretch to get my pinky down hard enough to play a clear note, hence it took ages to work up to the top fret! Will be trying the 3 finger spider tomorrow though as older joints need good warm up exercises! Thanks for a great video, Bob.

I found that I can also use the pivot point (2nd) finger to make the A major, just move the 1st finger to the G string and drop the 3rd finger on the B. all three in the 2nd fret. You can make the E minor, C , G and A during chord change practice.

Very helpful lesson and tips Lauren. I just turned 66 but have multiple sclerosis and numbness in my left and right hand. This repetitive drill/lesson is helping me make progress 👍🎶💯

Very good exercise Lauren. Good is also the search for "Guide Notes". These are Notes on the same string but different fret. For example for a change of the chords E to D, you just slide with your index finger from the first fret to first to the third fret without lifting the index finger . The other fingers will then follow to form a D chord. Cheers Stephan

Good morning, Lauren, I really appreciate and enjoy your teaching methods, which are really easy to follow. I am a senior citizen and I am interested in joining the " Fellowship of Strings" but I am living on a fixed income. I would love to be part of it , but cannot do it until beginning of May

Yes, start with the two fingers and work your way to the three fingers chords.

I'm kind of addicted to watching these kind of videos. Even if I'm comfortable with the task it's good to hear another perspective. Do you have any ideas to reduce string noise as you are moving up and down the braided strings?

The round wounds. That's a common issue with those. Really no way around it. Mine make noise too. Especially when skin starts coming off the calluses.

Think I mentioned this before when you spoke about the Em chord in another video. I play it 2nd and 3rd but I can see your point in playing 1st and 2nd as you can move to the G chord easier, as you demonstrated. Even though I play Em with 2nd and 3rd fingers, I can also play with 1st and 2nd fingers so I've been trying it out. At the moment I'm not playing a full G only a G6 two finger chord when I move from Em to G. However I still feel like I'm getting somewhere (slowly I have to admit) and it's definitely down to you not pushing to do a full G or C or any other difficult chords.

Yeah, there's usually more than one way to play certain chords. Have to find what works best for you and your hand

Is there really such a thing as muscle memory? I have seen others explain that it’s actually just your brain sending the messages and allowing it to happen.
