At first I didn’t like his seemingly “robotic” demeanor, but things like this have made me a Paul fan. He’s such a disc golf mind. He knows the game he’s playing as much as anyone, and obviously sometimes more than the TD of the tournament lol.

I hate when the island hole has a missing edge, whether it's a missing rail road tie or a wall or whatever. If you're going to make an island hole with something on the edge put it around the whole edge.

@@TheGamerCyrus I would argue that it's not the right ruling. If the ties define the OB and are considered the line. There would be a gap in the line where the tie was missing and thus no OB there. Seems silly, but if your OB line is missing, you don't have an OB line. Like if you say water is OB and the water level is down and has revealed a small landing, that landing is now in bounds. Unintended, but that's how it should play. And then there's also the argument that if the course was properly maintained, his disc would have been in bounds.

I’ve had one roll through the spot where one of those half brick sized pavers should’ve been. Maybe 3”x3”. It was laid up on top of the ones next to the gap. Tough break for sure.

I believe Sexton's OB was incorrect. I had a similar situation at Idlewild Open this year. I was pretty clearly OB on a hole. However, the TD and rules cleared stated what marks OB. On this particular hole in the first round, the caddybook indicated the line marks OB and someone FORGOT to create the line. I was able to argue that due to there being no line I was not OB. You cannot say "well if there was a line, you'd be out of bounds." The "If" does not matter, even in obvious situations like Nate's and myself.

So you're saying because the railroad tie was missing, there was no ob line in that spot and so he was completely in bounds? If that's the case, where is the ob over there? Is there just this column of in bounds as wide as a railroad tie is long that extends off the side of that island?

@@mikelewis495 Technically, yeah. Unless the rules in the caddybook state otherwise. I assume the caddybook said something to the effect of "railroad ties mark out of bounds line." Ergo, to the letter of the law, there is no OB there. If It was someone a bit more hardheaded than Sexton and kept lobbying "there is no railroad tie thus it cannot be out of bounds per the rule," I don't see how a TD could say "well there's suppose to be." Because by the logic of "there's suppose to be," then Sexton could argue if there WAS a railroad tie, his disc would've not skipped out of bounds because the tie would've stopped it.

Steve Dodge was TD on 2 of the 3 incidents. Both incidents were unnecessary. He sucks at being a TD for big tournaments. Also it’s inexcusable for the TD not be with the lead group at the finals of the DGPT. So glad he’s not running that anymore

Nikko is always the guy trying to add a stroke to his cardmates. He's never trying to give the benefit of the doubt, he's literally always on the side of adding a stroke. He's just a sour, egotistical player.

Couldn't agree more. Doesn't look at the rules, doesn't want to discuss the rules, doesn't even consider the possibility he could be wrong. I think I would rather play a round of disc golf with a razor blade under my finger nail than play with Nikko. He's painful to watch and is bad for the sport. Great player, but that is all the good you can say about him.

Yeah, Nikko is the first to call penalties on others but whines when others call him out. I watched him walk up and first thing he says is, "that's definitely out". It may be the rule, and Nate knew it, but Nikko is always pulling stuff like this. To me, he's one of the least likeable players.

Sexton was robbed. That gap was there for safety so they didn't have to climb over those ties. He should have been able to count that first putt, but whatever!!!

It was being played as an island so the gap doesn’t matter, they should have had a line to make it more obvious but the ruling was correct, just as Paul was also correct because it wasn’t an island

I like how he took his mask off and was able to speak with confidence and clarity when proving his points. No one but him was confident in the call and he was able to logically and respectfully correct or improve the rules on that hole alone. Paul is a legend in the sport for a reason and this is one.

Need some 'Top World Champ Love' moments... An entire video of Paul McBeth getting those 'lucky' kicks to stay in bounds. I can already picture the dog knocking disc in bounds in Arizona I think, the spotter at GBO, hole 15 at WACO during his -18 round where he threw it over OB the entire way and it somehow snuck back under the fence, lots of good content from the beast.

The fact that the TD agreed to the phantom OB line is what's most disconcerting. If you're hosting a tournament, you need your OBs clearly defined in each area. You also need to double check that your island green, which is created by rail road ties, is completely enclosed. The TD should say, "OK, given the situation, the fact that it was in-bounds then rolled through an opening created either intentionally or unintentionally, but that was definitely not supposed to be there, I cannot in good conscience agree that your disc is OB"

I was there by the green when Nate threw that shot. If it was ruled in bounds he would have won by one stroke. He deserved to win. Steve made a terrible call because there was no clear line, the benefit should've gone to Nate.

@@reitairue2073 But you need to care about the missing railroad tie, because his disc landed in bounds and would have rolled into any barrier, staying in-bounds. The fact that there wasn't a barrier, when there should have been, means the TD messed up and benefit should go to the player. Imagine the bars were cut out of the bottom of the basket. Someone makes their putt... but then the disc falls through the basket to the ground. Your logic says "well it's clearly not in the basket, doesn't matter if there's a hole in the basket"

Nate got screwed. Railroad tie is there? Wouldnt be out of bounds. Which of course it should be there if it serves a freaking purpose - maybe like defining the OB line. That's crazy talk that it costed him something like the DGPT Championship

Is OB line in or out? I thought it was like soccer where if even only 1% is on the line it is still in. Never played in a tournament though so I may be totally wrong.

@@Noah-lu9mb that is 100% right anything the only real thing is atleast some part of the disc has to be in bounds whether it's on the line or not but even when it's on the ob line usually it's called in

If any part of the disc is touching fair territory, it's in. If the railroad tie was the line, the disc would have to be touching the ground between the ties and the basket. He was outside that line, and he knew it himself. The question wasn't so much whether he was OB, as why wasn't there a line there?

The second one was great because Jeff Spring and Steve Dodge were there on site and they both couldn't correctly interpret the rules. The current and previous director of the DGPT and they both don't know shit

Sexton's was the only one I haven't seen within the context of the full round, seems crazy to me though that such a high-profile tournament would have an *incomplete* OB line on an island hole... Like did that railroad tie used to be there and someone was too lazy to replace it or does that hole design just suck? Either way, I would be pretty annoyed if I was Nate.

At this serious level of competition all lines should be painted on the ground like in a real golf tournament so there is no questions. Off lines around every water hazard and every ob

The funny part about Nate’s lie is that if it wasn’t an island hole, it could be argued that the only ob was on top of the railroad ties since the ob was an undefined line (incomplete shape). How could be ob by being on a line that wasn’t there?

If you're going to make an island hole with something on the edge put the gap at the front. It is very unlikely that a disc is rolling or skipping backwards.

Stupid thing with the Nate shot is that they just have to guess where a railroad tie would lie down to complete the circle. Maybe that part of the island isn’t meant to be a perfect circle and the tie gets angled differently. It’s obviously supposed to be a circle, but you can’t say that with 100% certainty and I think you should give the player the benefit of the doubt in that situation.

i remember the whole nate sexton bs i thought that was garbage because the entire tournament that was there and the crew who mowed moved that to mow the green never put it back and cost him the tournament. At the same time though it was a rough shot lol

Disc golf would do itself such a massive favor if it just adjusted the OB lines from being OB to being in fair territory. If the line is in bounds and everything past it is out, it becomes a LOT easier to adjudicate things like these.

They should at least put one railroad tie in that gap, even if they had left a gap there for safety, I don't think anybody's going to struggle to step over one tie! lol otherwise it's too much of a bad luck play, if you make the island but just happen to roll out that one small gap, doesn't seem right.
