Moved to Arkansas a few years ago, and after getting comfortable enough I asked one of the old shopkeepers why the locals had such reverence or fear of the forests. He told me "Long before there were signs on every path and churches on every corner, folk lived prayed and died in these woods, and the woods remember. You look after the forest, the forest will look after you. You abuse the forest, and you'll feed the roots."

I recall hearing a story about a three year old boy who spent days in the woods lost with no warm clothes in below freezing temperatures at night. When he was found, he was physically, unharmed, hydrated, and not even scared. When they took him to the hospital, he told his grandma that a bear took care of him and kept him warm for the three days he was missing, and I completely believe him.

@@effaroundfindout John himself is very respectful. Unfortunately a notable chunk of his fans are very bigoted people. They'll say how some of these dead/traumatized victims are stupid and how they "would've never let that slide if they were in their position". I even remember a story where a guy started uncontrollably killing people during a psychotic break, which could've been prevented if at least one of the 5+ people in his life admitted him for psychiatric help. His arm was even ripped to shreds and he couldn't feel it, yet his "fans" said he should receive the death penalty or rot in prison for life.

Us Native Americans were told many stories about going into the forest at night, our grandparents and elders around us always said that there are shadows and creatures that aren't of this world in the forest and to never follow them or hike at night, there is a reason we learned to make teepees in the open fields or an opening in the forest, as kids we never believed them and thought it was just a way to keep us inside but then realizing my uncle took his own life cause he was tired of those "shadows" following him and seeing them myself its all to real. Be careful in the forest if u choose to camp stay in your camp area and dont leave until daylight, biggest thing i learned is to just leave them alone even when they try hard to get your attention. Be safe out there everyone love you all

It's pretty clear Eddie was not a reliable witness but it didn't help the interviewer seemed biased that he'd done something to his sister from the start. Idk their reason for being in the woods but the police didn't have concrete evidence to believe Eddie had done anything to his sister.

Just a side note: Beaver Lake is also another freaky place in arkansas. I went to family outings there frequently as a kid and the lake always gave my the heebie jeebies and cried when my now step dad dive down where the drop off was because I had a bad feeling (he was fine). That place has such an eerie feeling to it, close to 100 people have drowned there too and not all the bodies have been found

As an Arkansas native, I can confirm that there's a lot of weird stuff that happens in the Ozarks and national forest. Our power was out one night, so I walked in the dark to check on the neighbors about a half mile down the road in a very rural area. As I walking back I could hear a voice in dense, thick woods repeating "I'm not crazy". Shined my light and no one was around. Later that night my wife woke me up asking why I was touching her feet. I told her I wasn't. We didn't sleep the rest of the night. Seen and heard a lot of odd things back home.

One time, I drove my car into a sand pit while trying to get out to a camping site deep in the Anza Borrego desert. I worked on getting it free in every way I could think of. This is a vast desert, and as far as I knew, there was not a person anywhere that I could approach for help. After some time had passed, I basically gave up, sat against the car for shade, and prayed a simple prayer, and somewhat sarcastically: "God, I'm told you have millions of angels that work for you. Could I borrow a few?" I was really just being cynical... But in just a few minutes, two men came toward me from the opposite direction I'd been traveling (from deeper into the desert). They were cheerful and made light of the situation, saying something like, "Got her stuck in the sand huh?" And they just walked straight to the back of the car, pushed it out on to hard road again, wished me a good trip, and they went back in the direction they'd come until I was alone again. So yeah... I believe in angels.

There is a mythical creature here in the Philippines that is said to stalk people alone in the woods and confuse their sense of direction so that they will get lost even more. The elderlies said you just have to wear your shirt inside out or in reverse or go shirtless. For some reason this works. This will make the creature so amused that it will smile so wide it will cover its eyes and you can escape the creature's spell or something and you will eventually go to the right direction and stop being lost.

My grandma is Katherine VanAlst, my daughter found your video and we just listened to it. Her father was not with her and her brothers when they went swimming. She did almost drown and after the lady pulled her out a man shook her to help get the water out. After that she decided to go back to the cabin and from there she got lost. She remembers seeing animals while she walked and then she stopped in what she calls a bluff until Mr Whitely and his crew found her. They called her name and she said she was on top of a hill when they saw her. They made a stretcher out of their shirts and carried her out and then she was taken to the hospital. Feel free respond back if you have any questions, she is still alive and doing well.

I did, however, once see a strange light - it looked like the space station (if you have not seen it, it looks like a planet, like a large white star that does not twinkle, but is moving across the sky quickly as it orbits earth) - the only difference was this changed direction more than once and then sped away.

I’d say never leave them somewhere unsafe. I agree with Hadrian to a certain extent, but never leave them out of eyesight. Or do what I did. Be a brat? Fine. We’re leaving, we’ll drop you off with somebody, and continue. Or fine, your staying at the house, campsite, whatever, with an adult. Miss out. Then do something super fun or at least act like it. Hailey WAS being a brat. Hiding? She was a very lucky girl. Anytime a kid goes missing for a while and reappears, it makes my hair raise. That actually happened to a friend of mine. Her little girl, maybe 3? 4? Was playing in the front yard with a friend. A perfectly normal, safe neighborhood. Both go missing. Can you imagine? They found them both about a mile away on a busy intersection three hours later. I always wonder what happened. They seemed fine. But…🤷‍♀️ All I can hope is there truly IS real guardian angels sometimes.

Ive been camping a bunch of times before we moved here but very few times in such dense and expansive forests. Ive been lost in the woods out here a couple times and i can tell you, panic is ALWAYS at the back of your throat no matter how much you tell yourself to stay calm. Especially once the sun goes down and even more so when youre alone. Your rational thinking just goes straight out the window and is replaced with nothing but blind fear that just builds and builds, i can def see people just cracking up under that much stress. It's just crazy to me that so much strange stuff happens in the woods. I've never seen anything but woods in the woods. One time in my early 20's my one friend and I took a pretty high dose of acid in the woods and we were sitting on a log just looking at everything, then it started to rain, we could hear and see the rain but we were not getting wet, everything around us was though. We weren't even right up against a tree, and the tree cover wasn't super dense, but maybe a 10ft radius around us just wasn't getting wet despite moderate rainfall. Then as soon as we got up and walked outside of that little 10ft radius it absolutely poured and we got soaked. There was also a flock of about 100 birds following us the entire way back to the car which was a few miles. That's the strangest woods experience I ever had.

My friend and I both saw the birds, I remember asking him to make sure it wasn't just me. We would walk for a little while, and then look up, and this huge flock of birds would just be trailing behind us in the sky. I guessed maybe they were starting their journey south for the winter or something and were just flying the same way we were walking. I have no idea if we were actually heading south the whole time, but that's my best guess.

Sleep deprivation will make you see things. I once took and Army course where they took away your food and gave you missions that ensured you could not possibly complete them without skipping sleep. It was a powerful, life-changing course. But hallucinations became common as we starved and were pushed beyond our endurance in a totally sleep=deprived state. It could have happened to them. Of it could have been meth. Rural AR is full of it and people aren't going to admit they went to the woods to smoke meth if they disappear and then have to give an account for their whereabouts.

On my archipelago there are also restrictions concerning the forests our parents forbade us from entering the woods alone, we had to be accompanied by adults. Since childhood, I have a memory that has stayed in my head is that of the voices that I heard and which came from the forest of our small town. I had told my father he believed me then reassured me by telling me not to be afraid because his voices have not been part of our world for years. Thank you for this video Mr Ballen.

The last story honestly sounds like extreme mental stress and sleep deprivation. I've been seeing these shadowy creatures too, after being awake a couple days. And that was at about 10pm on the sidewalk, not even a forest. Always feeling that someones watching, just hallucinating and paranoid. In a situation that is already scary, where you're super exhausted on top, plus dehydration and whatnot... you're almost guaranteed to see things, especially alone in the forest for days.

I think with the brother and sister, that there are rare gas pockets or low oxygen pockets that can form in certain areas. I think a lot of unexplained deaths are caused by this. Gas escaping the ground, stuff like that. Some sort of slow toxic gas release in the area would explain why they both lost their memories and why the sister had such intense hallucinations.

It's interesting. Because in south-americas, specifically in the Amazon you have similar stories. However, the indigenous people call them forest spirits, forest guardians, or simply the jungle (some tribes see it as one single living thing). Those tend to trick you too to venture deep in the forest. I personally heard the weirdest stories from them. I work with indigenous communities. From children to entire families getting lost because of the enchantments of the forest spirits (some do come back after months) to mermaids in the Amazon river that trick men into drowning, and much much more. It's crazy that is an international thing too

You know, thats a possibility. Theres a LOT of weird shit that goes on down here in these southern woods. I grew up in them, i wont go back by myself and without protections. Things i cant explain, weird ritual stuff too. Then you look at what the Imperial College of London is studying "long term DMT exposure"... where they are trying to figure out why people that go past the veil see approximately the same thing that involve creatures and say that the other world is more familiar to them than this one. Its fucking weird and their research is just getting started. They started studying this because... well... when lots and lots of people say approx. the same thing with no contact with each other, it makes one believe that it could be real... If you trip DMT and go into some place like "the upside down" from that one show, then its highly possible that all this weird paranormal stuff is just people with a flicker of DMT production for whatever reason shifting them to where they can see the "other world" and getting lost or confused and then ending up somewhere else and having literally no idea how they got there.

Yeah, thats all my nopes. I grew up in the woods here in the south and... i dont go in the woods anymore by myself. I used to, but then i started seeing weird shit. Big hyena looking dog things, lights, otherworldly noises... just nope. The south has a lot of really weird stuff that nobody talks about. Plenty of people go in the woods for hunting, plenty of people have really fucked up stories to tell... but they dont make big deals out of them... for whatever reason. Mostly because "crazy southern people", most likely anyway. Theres a lot of UFO activity down here, theres a lot of possible cryptid activity down here... paranormal. Had a friend that went on to be a youth group director a few years later talk about taking his fiance to her parents house out in the backwoods. They went down this dirt road, the wrong one... and for whatever reason they stopped the car. She got out and walked down the road a little ways stopped for a few min just standing there and so he went and walked up to her. He said they both stood there for a moment and then he saw the trees and everything covered in blood and that there was an ear piercing noise. He said he grabbed her hand and jerked her running back to the car. They both got in and left in a hurry and that was that. For someone that was super christian, thats a really strange story to tell. Theres surely more to it that i have forgotten, its been nearly 20 years. But yeah, the southern woods are a huge nope. Do not go in them by yourself, or at least unarmed. If you are hunting with a rifle or shotgun, have a sidearm and two forms of communication as well. The woods are deep and the nights are long.

When I was 10 years old I was crossing a slimy rock branch of a river in Sedona, AZ. It is not possible to get footing on wet mossy rocks. Didn't know that. I started sliding toward a waterfall. The waterfall was not a graceful flow of water, but a nest of downed trees and branches protruding outward. Even at that young age, feeling immortal and beyond any reach of harm, I knew my life was in danger in that moment. I frequently played by and in the river during that summer. No one was ever around. It was near a retirement community of mostly elderly who stayed inside. I'm on all four at this point, hands sliding, feet sliding, ready to go over the edge sideways. A strong hand reaches in and effortlessly pulls me from the water. I felt such relief and thought, "That was my grandpa who just saved me." He was a fire fighter and this is what he does. I stood on the sandy shore, looked up, nobody was there. I didn't think anything of it at the time. Just an ignorant boy. Years later I realize this world has protective forces that do not require our belief to exist. Mr Ballen's stories remind me that some people have very powerful protective forces while others do not. This does not require our understanding to be real.

I have a similar story. When I was a young mother, back in 1996, I took my children on a picnic in Pacific Grove, CA where we were living at the time. We climbed down the rocky cliff to the little beach below (about 15-20 feet down). It was an easy climb down and back up. My little boys were ahead of me as I held their baby sister on my hip and carried our tote bag. The boys got back up to the top before me, and just as I was nearing the top myself, my foot slipped out of my flip flop and I fell backwards. It all happened so fast that I don't think anyone noticed. But as I fell backwards, I fell past the point where you can catch yourself and stand up, and I immediately knew my daughter and I were going to die. Suddenly I felt a really heavy pressure or force on my back push me and we landed up on top of the cliff. I didn't walk. I didn't do anything, but there I was, standing on top of the cliff on my feet. My first thought was, I didn't do that. It's really hard to describe the feeling of pressure against my back. I couldn't feel anything touch me. I could only feel an incredible force of pressure pushing me. I have no idea why, and I'll never know. Why were we spared in that moment when so many others die? I've stopped trying to understand why. I'm just thankful to be alive.

@@fightswithspirits915 Yes, sometimes, but definitely not then. Others have tried giving me scientific explanations, and none work for me. The action was very purposeful. My daughter and I were delivered to the top of the cliff. And while I definitely acknowledge our lives were spared that day, I cannot to this day answer "why". I guess I won't know until I meet God.

As much as I love this episode the final story is textbook Datura intoxication. I mean to the T. There are various plants within that family and similar that contain scopolamibe and atropine which are delirium hallucinogens. South American criminals have been known to use it to steal $ from people as it basically fogs your memories to a dreamlike and/delirious state. Shadow being type hallucinations are so common you'll find more similar stories to this one not in missing 411 accounts but the vaults of erowid famous drug historian site where people post their experiences intentionally tripping off of it. I did it once myself like a fool. Not recommended. Not.a.single.positive. recorded.experience. its as mr ballen describes. Terrifying.
