You call the video "...Under $25,000" but all the cars pictured are upscale trim models with features you'll never get for that price. Why not images of the base models you're talking about? Otherwise, nice presentation.

@@namvet1968 If you don't mind the rear multi-link independent suspension being castrated, haha. Too bad the Corolla wagon isn't here, b/c the hatch with short wheelbase is a pita in passenger/cargo room. But I like the Corolla (& especially Avalon) sedan's wide rear visibility -- convenient/safe for passing (lane-change to the right). The new U.S.-spec HR-V is really a compact CR-V, b/c it's based on the new Civic (& no longer the Fit) with multi-link rear suspension "in extra-long travel setting".

CX-30 2021 base model owner here. What an incredible vehicle. Love there's no CVT transmission. 2.5 means I won't be burning insane amounts of gas while still having enough power to climb mountains... literally. I live in Puerto Rico and I'm very impressed with the insane amount of torque it has, being able to climb Skyrim like vertical mountain even from a full stop. It's been my daily driver ever since and I have no complaints. Daily driver while under conditions most of these vehicles aren't meant for since other roads in the world are far better and much more flat.

I think this is a very fair and comprehensive rating. You can't go wrong with a Toyota, Honda or Mazda. And Subaru is pretty darn solid as well. I would love to see the Elantra on the list, but valid skepticism about Hyundai's 2.0L and 2.4L engines exists given engine fires and catastrophic unforeseen failures. I really hope Kia/Hyundai earns a spot on this list in the near future.

As someone who sold both Hyundai and Nissan for 6 years, I can attest to the issues noted in this video. I would Nissans in the service bays getting new transmissions everyday. Hyundai suffers from a lack of quality control and the fact that they try to do everything themselves. They would be better outsourcing some components of there cars to other manufacturers.
@tommurphy4307
@tommurphy4307 2 жыл бұрын
nissans are very popular and young people drive them. that having been said, you WILL see them every day in a busy dealer service drive with CVT trans problems. the vast majority of the calls become customer-pay repairs because the owners neglected to service them at 60K and on top of that, abuse them while driving. selling nissans and working inside the back door are two very different things. we fix them and try to stock all the parts we need every day. BTW, the vast majority of CVT repairs in our shop are repairs- not 'new transmissions'- its actually difficult to ruin the entire transmission without physically wrecking the car. hyundai has plenty of backing from mitsubishi, LTD. and still gets technical info, parts, and sub-assemblies from them. hyundai had to break free from mitsubishi motors in 1987 and i think they did a commendable job while backing up their products, and it was definitely a rough go for a few years.

I am considering a base model Subaru Legacy. The base price is $24,395. Mazda no longer sells the CX3 in the USA. Toyota no longer puts the 1.8 liter engine in Corollas. My niece had the engine in her Hyundai seize while driving on the highway; the engine had to be replaced. Is the base engine in Honda Civics still the 2.0? The Accord's base engine is the turbocharged 1.5 liter.

Personally I went with the Elantra because it was the best value for what you get in this current market. Great size, great fuel economy, super long warranties, and they no longer use the recalled engines. I was able to get the SEL at around $25k after markup, taxes, and fees. I test drove a Corolla, Mazda 3, and Impreza and all of those cars were too small for me personally and most were more expensive after markups.

Shame that the 1.5T Honda has gotten so expensive and that the availability with the manual transmission is only on the Si or fully loaded model. It's like $29,000. I think the Mazda 3 is the best because of no CVT and a more torquey 2.5L than the 2.0s and can be had for easily under $25,000 USD. The Corolla is better in a couple aspects. If you want a manual transmission the Corolla Hatchback has a really good system and an engine that will rev out. Also, the Corolla Sedan has a hybrid model for about $25,000 for those that are most concerned with operating costs. I think the 2.5L Mazda 3 and CX30 strikes the best middle ground.

When you step up to the 1.6L Turbo shared by the KONA Limited/Elantra N/Kia you eradicate the issues with the 2L. BUT -- you're around $27,500 for the 195HP bulletproof engine. Still that car gets 38MPG highway, on regular gas.

Hi, thank you for putting these material out here for us to learn more about cars. I'm in the search for a new car or better used certified low mileage vehicle. I would like a midsize, luxury and most importantly reliable. What would you recommend for a lady with no children or big family. So the car is basically for myself daily use. Thank you 😊

No problem. For luxury brands, the most reliable choices would be the Lexus IS, Lexus ES, Acura TLX, and the new Acura Integra. All are great choices.

I bought a new sonata in 2018. They did the knock sensor update and raised the warranty to 125,000 on engine. Late they sent me a letter raising the engine warranty to lifetime. I imagine because of the class action lawsuits. I have had no issues.

If stick is available on the port-injection notchback Civic LX sedan, then I'd take one with the light color interior. Hatchback's “much narrower rear visibility” gets into my nerves! These newer Mazda designs with Torsion beam are no longer appealing.

Mazda 3 is the best! I love my old Mazda 3 which won’t give me enough problems to have any reason to buy a new one. It’s a 2006 and I have spent less than $500 on any motor problems over the years with the exception of oil changes, tire rotations and new tires. Very reliable and so much fun to drive. I wouldn’t buy any other. If you take good care of it - will last forever.

So you would definitely recommend a Mazda 3 over let’s say an Infiniti G35 or G37? I ask because I currently drive a Mitsubishi Lancer but I’m looking for a new car.

@@snehalkrishnan618 Yep - at least my 2006 has been the best car I have ever owned. Very reliable and I don’t need or care about all the bells and whistles that the newer cars have. It also keeps its value better than other cars do just because they are good cars.

Have not been to Manzi dealerships as yet, but all the rest you mentioned start at $25,000 or more with OTD at $34,500 or more. So be careful on the base price and look out for rising interest rates and payments. If you finance your talking up to $40,000+ when end of contract.

I've been looking at the new Honda Civics in Finland and the starting price is 40,641€ ($44,694). So even if you have to pay $40,000 for it financed, it doesn't sound like a bad plan. I will probably end up buying a few year old Toyota corolla hatchback and I will still end up having to pay 23,000€ - 27,000€ for it.
