Mr Browne, you keep dropping sprinkles of gold dust, and I keep picking them up! Your ability to talk fluently about technical matters is second to none. Another masterpiece to assist many people like myself. I admire your teaching style which is clearly true to yourself, enjoy the simplistic way in which you describe these technical matters. As well as learning about photography you have me searching my camera trying to figure out where certain things are (continuous focus v whatever else there is) loved the example at the end of shooting with 200 and the creative effect it had on the image. Again, thank you so much

Good to be reminded that those old classic photographs that we still admire today were taken with very basic cameras 'lacking' most of the controls today's cameras have. Less is more - its not the gear but what you can do with it.

Once again, a great video tutorial and always a pleasure to watch, for photographers of all abilities...A really direct and concise way of getting the important information across, without being 'preachy' or condescending...it's super easy to watch and get engaged with and one will always pick things up much more quickly as a result...and I think a really important point of this video, when the basics are mastered and you are comfortable with and can control your camera (and the points you mention and to master are obviously the foundation on which to launch forwards and build on as a photographer), is the super-important part of 'you', the individual, in the development and progression of your photography...I see so many people obsessed with the latest kit, accessories, software etc etc, as if this was the golden key to the magic door of photography.."get the latest camera, get the latest gizmo, get the latest upgrade and all will be great."...of course you need the latest upgrades to software like Lightroom and Photoshop etc, if you have it, but don't become gear obsessed and think the really great camera you had a couple of years ago and loved is all of a sudden obsolete and no good, because a sparkly brand new one has just been released, unless you have really deep pockets. Only yesterday I was looking at various KZfaq videos on the new Canon 90D release and was stunned by some of the comments... In my opinion, learn the absolute essential basics as Mike says, get some decent kit (and it doesn't have to cost a fortune), a decent entry level DSLR, 18-135mm kit lens (or an 18-55), 64MB memory card, tripod, shutter release cable, camera bag and a few other accessories, will get you started!..get out, learn the basics and take photos and practice! If you are a beginner in photography, follow the basics Mike has laid out here, track down some stuff on basic composition, framing and the importance of light, again, no doubt Mike will have these in his videos and courses, and you will have a nice platform to launch your photography adventure...enjoy and take photos!...practice, practice, practice!!! Nice job Mike...……………….and thankfully, no mind-numbingly inane music in Mike's videos! Mmmm, Mike's videos concise and to the point and my KZfaq comments not..ah well...lol

Good video. There is a great photographer here in the states named Bryan Peterson, who offered these suggestions that seem to work well. 1. If you were out on a snowy scene that you spoke of, if you tilt your camera up and meter the clear blue sky, it will work much like a gray card, and your whites will be correct using those settings. 2. He also says that you always have a gray card of sorts with you, the palm of your hand.... if you had that bright white wall or or whatever you want to expose correctly, hold your palm in that same light falling on your subject, meter the reading off your palm, and add +1 exposure, and most times, you will have correct exposure, and your whites will be white, and your darks will be dark. I have not tried these over a long period of time, but in most cases, it has worked when I have tried them........ Thanks for sharing you skills with us, I get a lot out of your videos!

An important aspect of Aperture Priority is how it overcomes the problem with working with variable aperture lenses such as my f/4.5-f/6.3. If I correctly expose for a zoomed out wildebeest at f/6.3 then suddenly change my composition to the zoomed in crocodile at f/4.5 that is chomping on your leg my camera will automatically correct the exposure. It’s important to have the ability to capture those decisive moments.

Great to see an updated video in a lovely location. It reminds me of our holiday last year. Doing mostly wildlife photography, I don't have much choice but to use manual mode. Birds don't always sit on a branch with the light on them. Or if they do, there can be a bright sky behind them. Then the next shot will be on a dark bush in a shadow. It's knowing how to cope with different conditions, quickly. Mastering the exposure triangle is a must, it comes with practice. Exposure compensation can be handy, just remember to reset it afterwards.. I've been caught out a couple of times by forgetting to do that..... Great video Mike......Alan............ PS, nice bike

Mike, this was very helpful and a great reminder. I always get so much out of your videos. I wish there was a way to access the courses, but my ISP continues to block email from your course server so my only option is to watch what I can on KZfaq. It's better than no Mike Browne. Mike, you truly have a gift, not only as a photographer, but as a teacher. Many thanks from the US.

Always something to learn from you, in fact (without you knowing it), you have been my mentor and inspirator since I first discovered your videos. I learned a lot from you! Remember the first one I saw, it was pt. 1 of the Street photography videos, and since then, I've seen them all several times. Never get boring, so keep on making these kind of videos. Love'em!!

Great instructional content as always from this photographer. Especially like the two UFO appearances at 10.05 and 10.35 in the background; very intriguing 🤔

Well done. This is on subject that is difficult for many. For still photography these are must know. But for fast pace shooting you need to commit to something. I use comp button and the histogram on all my pic for a quick glance and quick changes.

I really wish it were for me! Far too often I am riding somewhere really spectacular in the UK or Europe and I think ‘Wow, I must stop and take a photograph’. Sadly I don’t because I’m enjoying the ride too much. All credit to those of you who are more disciplined than me.

Mike Browne Good idea but you’d have to put me at the back or I’d be riding off into the sunset. I ride an R1200GSA with a 30 litre fuel tank and rarely need to stop for fuel

Best 20 minutes of my day so far!!! I'm so glad to see these teaching videos in my subscription box. I took both your courses a while back and they are GREAT! On a side note, I very much like the way your controls are placed on that camera. I wish they were all so easily accessible! Thanks so much for sharing your brain and content!

Thank you Jennifer. Delighted you loved the courses. Yes - having the controls I use all the time as knobs and switches on the camera instead of burried in a menu or multi-function switch is what made me go to the Fuji X series. It's easy, convienient so you can work quickly... MIKE :-)
