Every time people talk about Carol Kaye's most recognized bass, they list hit radio songs. Anyone know how many great bass lines she created for TV shows, both theme songs and show drama music. She performed on: Cannon, The Streets of San Francisco, Mission: Impossible, M*A*S*H, Kojak, Get Smart, Hogan's Heroes, The Love Boat, McCloud, Mannix, It Takes a Thief, Peyton Place Thee Cosby Show, Hawaii Five-O, The Addams Family, The Brady Bunch, Ironside, Room 222, Bonanza, Wonder Woman, Alias Smith & Jones, Run for Your Life, and Barnaby Jones. And tons of feature films. You should make a video on the TV music. People love that, it's nostalgic. You are a super duper great bassist, by the way. Love your channel and thank you!

Ray Pohlman played that session, not Carol as she claims. Every time I read another article claiming a dozen and a half songs she played on, always two or three are false. You've been scammed by a "kindly old lady". Bet she can't document being on more than 200 albums or more than 1,000 sessions total. 10,000 is a crazy exaggeration, only believable by beguiled fanboys who cannot do math. I don't have one favorite, but Carol Kaye is a legend. I've found many YT videos of her playing and I could watch more and more. It's fun watching Julia play bass too, as well as Nataly Dawn from Pomplamoose.

Carol Kaye is my hero - I even have her signed picture on my wall - and I'm glad that your playing did her justice. She did 10,000 sessions, so it's almost impossible to pick out a favourite, but These Boots Are Made For Walking will live forever. Thank you.

Actually got to meet Carol Kaye in the early 70's at a NAMM show in Chicago. That day launched a love for playing bass that still runs strong today. A most remarkable player and person, My favorite line was in Quincy Jones' "Hicky Burr" A show theme for Bill Cosby. Thank you Julia for doing a piece on the original queen of bass!

The story goes that the bass player that was scheduled to play in a recording session didn't show up, so they handed a bass to Carol and the rest is history. She would often tape a piece of felt on her bass in order to get a darker tone.

Why would taping a piece of felt to a bass guitar give it a ‘darker tone’?😂

Love it because Carol Kaye was another session musician for the Wrecking Crew, played for likes of the Beach Boys, Sonny and Cher. Cher also, started of as a back up vocalist. On on KZfaq.

The six-note orchestral fill in the middle of each verse was originally a Carol Kaye bass lick, too. (How many other hit songs contain bass improvisations of hers that are wrongly assumed to be the arranger's own idea, I wonder?)

Wichita Lineman was a bit special for Carol because Glen Campbell was a member of the Wrecking Crew. Campbell was one of the great session guitarists
