@@eastside313yahdig.2 Actually, what he said has already been done before. Of course, stuff like transmissions, master cylinders, water pumps, fuel pumps, alternators, exhausts, radiators, electrical components (window motors, door lock actuators, antenna motors etc.) suspension components, and the usual maintenance related issues must all be timely tended to in order to make it a feasible reality. Most give up or simply get tired of the car long before that.

I had a 2001 Camry, had it towed away at 438,883. I could have driven it away myself but it didn't have a sticker on it... I had rocker panel rust and I wasnt going to fix it. It ran pretty damn good. Radio/Cd worked well, power seats and windows still worked. Had an oil leak but again wasn't going to fix it....car was great. Oh, and when I bought it, it had 345,000 on it. I paid like $500 for it. Owner thought it had too many miles on it. Deal of the century.

I'm a limousine driver and what you said is absolutely correct! 2 limousine companies I worked for had Lincoln Town Cars with over 400,000 miles on them! One of them reached 450000 miles and the engine started to misfire. It turns out some of the valve springs cracked. After installing new valve springs that car is still on the road!

My '03 Town car has 214,000 and the only maintenance has been standard wear parts, brake pads, ball joints and shocks. For 177 bucks I replaced the leaking rear shocks with a coil spring kit from the auto parts store. It pays to have a spare coil pack and a code reader with you. Comfortable and dependable.

2010 Honda Accord Automatic 4 Cylinder here, with 210,000 miles. Oil changes every 10,000 miles. Mobil 1 synthetic oil with Mobil 1 filter. I use the cheapest gas and still get 25 mpg. Rotate tires regularly, change break pads every 50-60k, transmission fluid changed at same intervals as break pads. Everything under the hood is original from the factory aside from the starter and spark plugs. Nothing else has been touched. Car still runs wonderfully, never had any issues. Needs suspension work which is to be expected after that many miles. Can't recommend the Honda Accord enough. Fantastic, reliable cars all day every day.

I thought the same thing for my 1998 Toyota Corolla but decided to buy a new car, it's ordered right now, I'll probably take delivery in early October. I had 2 major back surgeries this year and my days of a standard transmission are over. I ordered my car because it could be my last and for once I wanted exactly what I wanted. No compromises. I got a Ford Escape Titanium with almost everything, I didn't get the locking lug nuts because I can get hello kitty ones on Amazon.😂 I went from roll up windows to a car I can talk to.

Extremely comfortable, best sound system ever (built in sub woofer). Maybe good if you can fix cars yourself. Everything extremely expensive to fix I guess because a lot of police use them and they know they can gouge the taxpayer. Got over 200k miles on it

I buy my used cars with 200,000 miles on them for $1,200-1,500, put very little into them, drive them for another 100,000 miles and sell them for what I paid for them. You just need to know what to look for and be able to do the basic reconditioning if needed. I buy common toyota's, Honda's and Nissans, easy to find parts and easy to find you-tube repair videos.

A very good strategy Tom, the money saved with no depreciation, no expensive full coverage insurance and no intrest on loans could be more than enough to fund a IRA and amount to very large sums of money over 30-50 years. Also if you get stuck with a Hoopdie how cares your only out a small amount and get some back at the junk yard. I buy mine for around 3 to 5 thousand take good care of them and sell them 5 to 6 years later for about half what I paid then upgrade to a newer one.

I have a 98 towncar with 112,000 orig miles and I wouldn't trade it for any new car, and not all big cars are gas hogs. I get 15 to 17 around town and on the highway I get 24 to 25 mpg. Some of you towncar owners please back me up on this. Who needs a tiny uncomfortable compact car when you can have this kind of comfort and still get decent mileage. And I too have seen these Lincolns with 300 to 350,000 miles on them and still running trouble free. I will admit that at 110,000 mls. I did have to replace the intake manifold due to a crack and coolant loss, cost me $ 700.00 to replace with the improved one Ford designed to replace it. Other than that I swear it's been a great car and I wouldn't trade it for anything else out there. If you have one, keep it, if you don't have one get one, you can't go wrong with a stinken lincoln. 😎

Hear us now and believe us later ! I own a 2001 Lincoln Town Car with roughly 195,000 original miles. I had bought for $500 cash in east Texas after my 1998 Saturn LS 2 had been hit head on at 90 mph by a pickup that had been driven over the highway center line and crashed into my stationary car sitting in a left turn lane. Upon impact that truck flipped over and over across the highway, flipping over a guardrail and crushing it. A newer Ford FX4 crewcab rear ended my car at 50 to 60 mph. My car was totaled and the unibody was crushed badly. The engine was almost driven through the dashboard, the hood was touching the heavily cracked windshield and the trunk was almost touching the shattered back window. I was almost dead when EMS got to me, close to slipping into a coma. I ended up at Jenny Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas where teo level 1 trauma teams operated on me for fifteen hours to keep me alive because I had tried to go into a coma three more times. My Lincoln has been broken into two times but the punks are likely still locked up in county jail unless they got transferred to state prison. The power window switches on the driver side don't work now because of the break ins but the passenger side windows do work. The factory starter just went out a couple of months ago and I replaced it with a refurbished model. The electronic light module that controls gauges on the instrument panel is about to shut down. The original heater core went out earlier this year so no heater or defroster and it caused the coolant to get flushed out while I was driving. A mechanic had done a heater core bypass to prevent that flushing. The Alpine CD changer in the trunk isn't working. It has a AM/FM/cassette player stereo but no CD/mp3/Bluetooth capability until I buy a modern high power head unit, amplifiers and speakers. My car will need new tires soon and I just had a high mileage oil change done. I'll need to put it in a shop for coolant system service for sure and just a check up on brakes because they were replaced recently. The air conditioner works so well it gets colder than the central air system in my apartment and I have to turn it down. I live in Texas so the air conditioning is preferred to the heater but defroster would be nice when it rains. My car will need new bulbs for the turn signals. It's hard to park it at some shopping centers or businesses with tight parking areas. It has lots of space inside to move around where you can drive and ride in comfort. I've had people wanting to buy my car but assured them the price would be $5000 and not $500.

When Ford did the initial reliability testing on the 4.6 back in 1991 they tore apart engines with 500,000 miles and found little to no cylinder wear. Just stick with the original 4.6 SOHC design and stay away from the later 3-valve 4.6's and 4.6 VVT engines and it should last forever.

I have a 1997 Grand Marquis LS that I inherited from my parents. Not quite trouble free but still very reliable. Had to rebuild the air suspension with a non air ride suspension when it went out. Also have had to change the intake manifold twice because Ford unbelievably put in a PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD! No excuse for this kind of cheapness. I also noticed Ford also used the same type of intake manifold on my 4.2 liter V6 F-150. Usually get 16 mpg in mixed driving and 20 on the road, but one day after Thanksgiving got the rating of 25 mpg returning from my friends house in Mesa Az to Quartzite Az. Since it was after Thanksgiving I didn't need to use the AC and there were no freeway bridges to climb over on the drive. it was 150 miles and used 6 gallons. checked out electronically as well and did get 25 mpg. but these are not the typical driving conditions.

The police impound it because i left it parked more than 72 hours in front of a business on my 3 day weekend and were charging me over $1,500 and I bought it for $500 so I left it there but I'm loking for a Towncar

Josh, the reliability of the "cheap" Ranger is legend. Kinda explains why Ford quit building it. Ford also dropped the 4.9 litre or 300 inline six for the same reason. Half a million miles was no big thing for those engines. BUT, the fuel consumption wasn't anything to write home about and they say it would have been too costly to get it capable of meeting new emissions standards. All I know is I drove service vehicles with that engine and the body was a HEAP with the engine still running strong. (service vehicles get beat up) We typically replaced em about 300,000. But ONLY because of the appearance.

You could have added the 2000 kia Sephia....mine has 288,000 miles on it and it's still running strong. No smoke from the engine. No noises or vibrations. No oil consumption issues. However it does have some oil leaks and it have worn out motor mounts. It's never had any suspension work required. I had an alignment put on it about 6 years ago and it hasn't needed anything else done to it since. The one issue with this particular engine is that it's an interference engine and you have got to replace the timing belt when it gets worn to avoid engine damage from a broken timing belt. My car was 8 years old when I bought it for $2800.00. it already had 194,000.miles on it. But I still drive it daily. The interior is still in excellent condition with the exception of worn out brake and clutch pedal covers. It's still on the original clutch. A/c power windows, power locks rear window defogger, etc... Everything still works great on my car. It will easily pass 300,000 miles...

I have a 2001 Toyota Camry CE, 2.2L 4-cylinder. Bought it 9 years ago for $2800 with 110,000 miles on the odometer. It just went over 250,000 miles last week. I use Walmart's Super-Tech 20,000 mile synthetic oil but change it every 10,000 miles. Also use synthetic Mobil 1 transmission fluid and when doing the fluid exchange, I drain the fluid at the transmission cooler output line in order to get the old fluid out of the torque converter... Had to replace the radiator, the timing belt/water pump, the battery, and some hoses. Motor still runs velvety smooth (just like new, really) and shifts almost imperceptibly... I just keeps GOING❗ I drive the car VERY gently as to not put too much stress on the components. Cosmetically, the car could maybe use a fresh paint job, but the seats are absolutely rip free and no cracks on the dash (and I live in Texas). These 90s and early 2000s Camrys are super over-engineered. Most mechanics will attest to this... I just GASP at the thought that the average new vehicle transaction price in the US is now $48,000😯... WOW...❗I've been to the junkyard many times and ALL vehicles are heading there... Let's not kid ourselves... Some trips to the junkyard are VERY expensive, apparently...

I’ve heard the Prius c isn’t great but maybe people just find it to be slow. What has been your experience with it, accelerating and all that?
@johnscloud
@johnscloud 5 жыл бұрын
Well a course it is NOT a muscle car. Acceleration is more than adequate for driving. I live in a small population center so speed is not required as much. I have NO problem accelerating when I need to. My prious c climbs mountains pretty well. I generally use my cruise control for maximum milage. Mountain driving does use more power and milage can drop depending how long the climb is. I do travel every couple of monthes on a 220 mile r/t and I get between 60 to 70 mpg. this is across a 5500 ft mtn pass. If you are constantly in freeway traffic , yah you may get run over! I used to commute in that fast driving conditions. It is hard enough to get on a freeway at 65 to 70 mpg in a regular car! A Prius is designed for great milage so the way you drive is IMPORTANT to gain maximum milage! Thanks for the question.

The Prius has a battery pack consisiting of about 30 7-volt batteries. Each one is about the side of a harcover book. If you have a battery issue and you are handy, you can test each individual battery and replace only the bad ones. If you by a whole battery pack and you can replace it yourself, you will save a lot of money. But it is a job which has to be careully done. If you bridge a metal tool across 200 volts DC you might see a meltdown or even a fire.

2004 Lincoln town car with 170,000. Purrs like a kitten. Rides like a cloud. Best 3500 I've ever spent. If I could go back in time I'd buy one in high school. 10/10 vehicle

My '07 mazda has 315,000 problem-free miles. I do mostly freeway driving. I'm only on my first set of replacement brakes and just recently had a clutch rebuild. I get to keep driving a car with a CD and cassette player!

Another car that constantly gets large numbers. The original Toyota Lexus LS400. Theres one in particular thats getting around USA being driven by all and sundry that has just under 1M miles on it. Engine has never been cracked open and the Auto lasted till 800K miles before being rebuilt. I believe it currently (at the time this is being written) has about 990K miles. Engine is still strong. I have heard of others that have more miles, but that one you can look up. Just search google for Million Mile Lexus, Owners name is Matt Farah. It has things that need doing to it, but its still going!

1996 Chevy Caprice with 340,000 miles. It has the original engine and transmission and doesn't burn any oil. The 1996 Caprice is the only car ever to be restored by law enforcement agencies across the country because of its reliability.

My first Accord (1990) went 280,285 miles when I owned it, saw it in 2010, 6 years after I sold it, had 311,000 or so on it, still looked good other than the clear coat was failing on the roof and trunk lid. Solid car, did have to replace the automatic at 190k. My 2004 V6 Accord currently has 248,800 miles on it, did have to replace the transmission at 160k, then again at 219k because the shop that did the work added an auxiliary cooler but didn't blow out the lines before installed it, some plastic was in there restricting flow. Different shop found the problem and added the TransLab shift kit (if you get a rebuild, insist on that shift kit, makes a big difference). Engine doesn't use any oil in between 7500 mile synthetic oil changes. All the interior switches and buttons still have a precision feel to them.

A 2007 Toyota Tundra reached a million miles a couple years ago! The owner used it for fast shot deliveries for the oil companies, and he put like 125,000 miles on it a year, and he was driving cross country in it 24/7!

I own both Accord 06 and Camry 2000 and both are great. I think Camry is easier to maintain and little more durable. Honda is good if you maintain it with Honda fluids specially transmission oil.

My 91 Honda CRX HF had 697,000 miles on it when it ate a piston ring doing 90 MPH. I got my monies worth out of that car. Drove it for 19 years. Now driving a Prius. Love it. Averaging 57 MPG. Not one problem.

No, you missed the 1980-81 Mercedes 300d. After 20 years I sold mine with 780,000 miles on it. Other than routine maintenance and two timing chains it needed little and didn’t smoke. There are many of these used as taxis around the world with over one million miles. IMHO it was the best car ever on the planet. Even the plastic didn’t deteriorate like American cars do.

My beloved Lincoln TC threw a rod at 117k! - sold it to a Mexican farmer who swapped in two engines - third engine was good. Now with my LS430, I only miss that TC trunk space.

@@sylvia106 I'm half-Mex so don't hurt yourself with virtue signaling or race-baiting. The buyer was of 100% Mexican heritage and a much better auto mechanic than me. They way "he got it done" by swapping in two engines in a couple days by himself was quite impressive. Mexicans often outwork gringos in tough jobs. Especially those with more native blood vs euro blood. Employers know this and so do Mexicans.

What is failed to mention by anyone is that with the proper upkeep and maintenance, MOST cars will see that 300k Mark.

It really depends on your car, ive seen numerous mercedes, bmws and vws being towed away. With the german cars its seems to be planned obsolescence. I've seen a lot of modern mercedes engines go by 150 000miles. The 70s and 80s engines were far better and some are still running.

It also depends on how it gets there. Yes a Chrysler 200 will make it to 300k miles but you'll have changed just about everything in the car including the transmission and engine.
