That's not how it works. Now if you go thru the process and paperwork, you could get cleared to play. Such is the case for Messi. He's Argentine. If he ever wanted to consider playing for Italy, or Spain or any other country aside from Argentina, he'd have to apply and change/update his citizenship before that would ever happen. The same thing goes for these players that come to the United States. It's not an instant process.
