I remember when DJ's would occasionally bop, smile, nod a little. Nothing fancy, intricate or excessive. Genuinely enjoying the moment, feeling a mix, crowd energy etc. No wiggly, Fraggle arms in the air, jumping, or smarmy "look at me" expressions and posture. God bless the true DJ's, producers and artists out there. Past and present.

It's infuriating that these no talent ass clowns get paid ungodly amounts of money to jump around, touch knobs on unused channels, and throw cake into the crowd. I miss my raver days from the 90s and early 2000s when real DJs spun vinyl and they actually beat matched, blended, and made smooth transitions.

I blame the general public that comes into the place and pays for the admission. The problem is is society has been dumbed down. If there is a demand for this kind of trickery and people will still line up to pay for it then it will continue. It's kind of like the way it's the simps fault that women are so entitled these days. I don't really blame the women. I blame the simps. If the women dont get away with this behavior and were to get put in check they wouldn't act like that.

When you really start to feel the mix or just the music in general. It’s really hard not to get in hyper mode. Some people also have nervous ticks. Before passing judgments on these djs. See what it feels like playing for over 100,000 people and experience the pressures of playing day in and day out year round. And keep everyone excited for your music. Because the real talent is also producing. Making your own beats and music. Playing and mixing them for people live is just another aspect to get your own music or remixes out there. I’m honestly ashamed of this video. It’s just for likes and shares. This guy needs to know the pressures before he casts judgments. Yes there are a lot of fake djs out there. Paris Hilton was one of them. We see them all over KZfaq. But for some of these artists he wanted to expose and bash. Will put a hurting on him if he ever wanted to go up against them live. Or produce in general. This generation has turned into a bash generation. All for likes and shares. It’s honestly sad. Instead of bashing or trying to expose people. Let’s just life them up. That may actually give them the courage to keep going and perfect there dream and not bring them down to just quit.

@@bradantle7669 So your argument is that it is okay to fake your DJ set if you are playing in front of a big crowd? You are so far off the mark with this, it's not even funny. If you are fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to play at those big shows, you for SURE should be coming with your A game.

Yeah that's right, some DJays really do have that habit, but when there is a habit, they're usually holding some knobs, in case to mess up with the filter or freqs and it's clearly seen that they're doing it on habit, but not in this case, this time she was 100% faking the job, trying to look busy... I'm not judging tho, i just don't like it...

At these huge festivals like Ultra, Tomorrowland, etc. a lot of sets are pre-mixed prior to the event. The artists are there to put on a show and to control/play around with different effects, the actual mix is already done.

@Raketenmann1980 11 ай бұрын
@dimsuminab0x There was nothing like that in the 90s. At the MAYDAY in Dortmund/Germany back then, the DJ put his vinyl records on the turntable and played music. When a real DJ notices that people aren't dancing. He can steer his set in a different direction at any time. Nowadays it's not about music anymore, but unfortunately about a show. The DJ is no longer the focus. Really sad.

I think on big Festivals it has a good ground. The DJ´s creat the setup before at home or in the studio, because on Festivals is a very Big light and effect show they are all before programmed with the setup was the dj give to the sound and light crew. It´s most all with Timecode copelled so that the light and effects points perfect fitt´s. That what we on Festivals see with light and effect can never played live so perfectlie. So the DJ´s make the work also before Festivals starting and on Festivals it is her Job to interakt with the Crowd and make great mood. I think most it is 1 Turntable on the festival that realy runs and they mixing only a little bit with effects so how echo, flanger or turn the sound down to interact with the crowd or settings loops for the interacting with the crowd and the MC. Most it is yes so that a Live mixing setup is never same how the setup before thats why DJ´s mixing fake i think. I will also say, sure play they a little bit on Festivals real but most it is all time show and interacting with the crowd to creat a good mood and make the festival unfergetable for the Visitors.

I understand the reasoning behind some of it (not that I agree), but in the case of some good DJ's (big name), they have issued that because of the big production (lighting, fire, videos, etc) they have to pre-record sets for the said festival. That being said, Paris, that's the first thing I noticed before you point it out: there are no track loaded WTF😂😂 I make some decent mixes, and prefer to be a little DJ that keep it real. Keep it coming!

I recently saw 'We Own the Night', some festival-night on Dutch cable. I think it's there because of the corona-virus, as you can 'tune in' to the room via Zoom and leave messages with people alike. When I tuned in on TV, there was a great DJ playing, good, proper house music, so I decided to join the Zoom-channel as I was a bit bored. I could just see the DJ in question was really doing something by looking at his face and the abundance of a lot of 'crowd-entertaining' (no crowds because of corona, but you get the point) About 10 minutes after I joined the Zoom-channel, his set ended and an 'act' took over. Suddenly there were 2 'DJ's' behind the equipment (something I already don't understand) but more importantly: they seemed to be more busy with throwing their hands up in the air and pumping their fists than actually doing something. I also found it quite typical most people left the Zoom-channel quickly as well...
@thedvdaddy
@thedvdaddy 2 жыл бұрын
Nobody needs to pre-record a set regardless of production; Yes you need to give your lighting director your track list but after that it's just timecoded; wind the jog dial back mid set by mistake? no problem! the lighting show just went backwards too and the fire got sucked back into the cannon.

I don't use laptops, I purposely don't preset any cues that's what the headphones are for, I don't make any play lists. I pick my first song and then read the crowd for the rest of my playlist. I do all that to keep my creativity at a high level. I actually love the pressure of having only three minute to figure out what to do next. Thats what makes it fun for me. I couldn't imagine just pushing play and toggle. I love beat maching, I play in key 70% of my set and love knowing when it time to break that rule. Love taking the crowd on a journey.

I'm new to DJing too and I really highly suggest that you start a record collection and start spending vinyl. I don't want to support this new technology because people are abusing it and allowing for fake DJs to get paid. There's so many talented DJs out there and the fake ones are taking the money. Screw that dude. On top of that learn to produce your own music. It's hard at first when you start out, some people get it quicker than others but once you learn everything it's quite easy. Start producing music, start spinning vinyl, and don't by any equipment that automatically beat matches the song because that's absolutely cheating as well. Final all the way my friend and may your DJ journey be awesome!

This is why I always say if you take some of these new tech DJs and put them in front of vinyl they will be completely lost. As I always say the Vinyl is the one thing that can show the real ones to the fake ones.

@TRIX TRIX that's my point, just because he drives automatic doesnt mean he is less of a driver or that he is faking it. That's just what he drives, which is faster. Sure manual is more fun and I only drive manual cars, and I can agree that will be like vinyl, but I don't see automatic drivers as less of drivers, even tho most of them cant drive, there still is some very good drivers who drive automatic, no need to hate.

I just started vinyl djing. Thanks to my 53-year-old friend who was a trance DJ in San Francisco in the 90s. Yeah he's not with that new stuff either. He never switched over to cd systems. He still spins vinyl and he just sold me his older setup, to vinyl decks an amp, a mixer and two monitors... Give me a stack of vinyls to practice and I got it down under an hour of my first day starting to spend vinyl and mix. Beat matching came naturally to me because well, I've already produced music before and I grew up being a musician. So maybe that helped me easily beat matching things. I just know where things go and how it sounds. But I'm going to pass down the torch when I get older too and continue passing down this art of eat matching and mixing spinning vinyl. That's the only way. That's true DJ sht. All this fake stuff is going to fade pretty quickly because people are catching on.

What I don't understand how these DJ's get to where they are by doing this though. I have been an enthusiast DJ at home (and I started on Technics) for over 16 years. In the summer of 2019 I got my first gig at a small bar in Spain. I have never had the opportunity to play for so many people in these videos,... and then all they do is bull shit the crowd. Makes you wonder.
@hman9488
@hman9488 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, I dont think the crowd care! Unless you're a super judgemental fellow Dj, the party goers dont really care. They are there to drop pingers, listen to music that sounds consistently good, jump up and down and suffer the come down tomorrow. Funny, and not directed at you, but every comment about having all this talent and what it means to be a Dj like there are rules to this shit and they boast decades of experience - yet where are all these amazing talents? Am I talking to tiesto in the youtube comments here? Why exactly, haven't all these amazing talents hit the world stage. The talent comes to to song selection, and production. So many Djs out there with the most amazing talents, yet no one knows who you are. Keep playing for yourself, and let the obvious jealously sink in, you never made it. If you cant entertain an audience, you're just some person who can beat match and scratch on a deck at home; nothing wrong with that, but stop pretending like there is this Dj rulebook about what makes a great entertainer. My opinion, if they are playing in front of 20k+ crowds, getting paid 100s and thousands they are doing something right.

"Talented" DJ'ing went out the window once vinyl stopped being used, but it's all subjective. I write music and I can tell you some of the more complex synths are tied to oscillators or some kind of modulation that playing live (outside a quantized environment) is not always a good idea. DJ sets of old showed the cracks in their timing compared to modern squeaky clean mixes due to modern tools, perhaps why these DJ's can easily get away with their handwavium.

Actually I have the tendency to grab nobs and turn them inadvertently because I in mid-set get curious about how changing something in the EQ will make the sound change. I might not actually turn the knob sometimes very much. Now that I see these videos - it makes me think some may think its fake lol.
