I've come to the conclusion after many years of doing this and getting this great info from Jeff that he so graciously shares with us all ,is keep it basic I've improved my property but just maintains the natural browse ,and planting basic plots of ,annual clover that will be later disced under for nitrogen for my brassicas ,rye and a few acres of corn and I've had great success ,good deer hunting well into new York's long gun season and many trophy bucks on the wall . Good sound harvest practices and a little sweat equity and you can improve your property without huge financial invesents ,,thanks again Jeff as always great useful info.

Agreed! Deer have plent of summer time food. I also agree that no-till is the best way to build good food plots and save a lot of money in the long run. So I suggest the following motto for all of us food plotters: "In the summer we feed the soil, in the fall we feed the deer".

Great content Jeff. Lime is the key and probably the most important factor in planting. We have struggled a couple years adjusting ph and will really push the lime heavier this year. Our plots run 5.4 to 6.1. We find it’s a long term project to get sufficient lime down in remote areas. We use pelletized lime as it’s easier to get it in our remote areas. Again thanks and stay safe.

I learned about seed mixes the hard way my first year. Now I buy it from the local feed store and have had great results. Keeping fingers crossed the switchgrass seed germinates in the next few weeks, thanks for the tips on weed control. Great videos Jeff keep em coming!

Great advice! Love watching your videos. You should do a video talking about adjusting the planting dates for different parts of the country. I live in west Tennessee so I know my dates are pushed back later

Jeff could you please do a video on types of chemical to use for different food plot seeding. I have a place to buy chemical but they have no idea what I need to spray on clover , brassica, chicory . I have a lot of grasses and broadleaf weeds in my plots a want to get it gone.but just don't know what to spray

Thanks Jeff going to split my linear food plots like you recommend. Brassicas on one side WHS green forage blend on the other. Would it be ok to plant an edge of corn around them and split down the middle to separate the plots? To screen one plot from another so deer can’t see the other plot without traveling through the corn.

Hey Jeff next weekend wouldn’t be to late in se Mn to spray the the glyphosate and 24d on the frost seeded switchgrass would it? It’s been pretty cool here this spring still and don’t think any has germinated.

I want to see you plan a truly mountain area. Because Noone has any information on deer movement in the mountains. I have great deer on my property, but no Idea on how to create many of these improvements in super steep mountains.

The soil size isn't how the lime reacts, it's related to the CEC (cation exchange capacity) of the soil, sand is very low, organic soil is very high. Also, sand isn't a small soil particle, it's the largest of all soil particles, clay is the finest.

Is Plot start a lime alternative? Did it work on your plots last fall? Thanks for all you do for us!

Jeff. Thanks for another great video and advise. I am trying to learn about herbicides and see a lot of different 2, 4D options and price ranges. Can you advise on what to use? I see 2,4D Amine? How about milorganite to keep deer off the plot till its far enough along to handle grazing?

Is adding pulverized lime first and then liquid lime 2nd before planting a strategy for getting quick results while the ag lime takes hold?

I have all of these problems. Lol. Sweet beets. No go. Beans are easy but they suck the small plants up like a vacuum. Weeds end up taking over. Brassicas are patchy but end up dying or get eaten. 1/3 acre. The deer still do come though.

What if i’m using eagle seed soybeans in South Louisiana, basically is a summer and fall food plot because our winter is a joke.

What about Eagle seeds forage soybeans. They advertise that browsing stimulates growth.

Lime is more important than fertilizer, I lime my fields & even the areas I just brush hog with no food plots bring in wildlife.

Jeff you ever try spreading lime with a hand spreader just close it down to small seed. Just wondering if it would work or just make a dust cloud
