I was a customer of B Dalton, Walden books and Borders. I just loved getting a cup of tea and reading my new favorite cozy mystery in a nice relaxing atmosphere. Years later, I became an employee of Barnes and Noble. I loved the job and worked there for 12 1/2 years. I could still get a mug of tea and read and then buy a cozy mystery and take care of customers. I developed health problems and I was in tears when I had to quit my job there. I still visit occasionally but now the pandemic is keeping me out

Thanks for watching and Commenting! You worked at Barnes & Noble for a while. Did you ever get up to Management level? I was in a Barnes and Noble a Month ago in Macon Georgia to stop at Starbucks and the Barista looked overworked. She was taking orders and making drinks by herself. The line was long and I felt bad for her.

No, I never was management. I was a bookseller, ran the registers, helped people find the books they were looking for (or the books they didn't know they wanted!) I loved doing this job though and was quite upset when my physical health got in the way of me doing my job. I have seen what you described happening in several B & N stores. Unfortunately, shrinking workforces brought about by the pandemic, daily fluctuations in staff and other "surprises" affect department staffing on a daily basis. Hopefully, the staffing in the Cafe improved during the next shift or at least the next day. The Cafe was the one department I never worked in!

I definitely shopped at Dalton's, Borders, Waldenbooks, and Crown (not sure if I ever shopped at Encore, but I could well have). There was also Brentano's and a place called Paperback Booksmith (later just Booksmith) but those might have only been in New York. And people today ask me "You still read actual books??"

I wish borders would try opening small coffee shops (at least one in some city). I hate their bookstores closed. I used to love going to the Borders store. But I still vision the Borders name on a cozy coffee shop, or something. A small scale coffee shop but with the same recognizable Borders look. Hey what about Borders at night-a cozy coffee place that stays open till 12 or something? They’ll open when the other shops close. I know people who look for after- hour coffee places.

I have been a fan of all the book stores in this video, a big chunk of car books in my massive library have been bought at those stores, in fact, back in the eighties, when I lived in Arlington Heights Illinois, I had found out that the Divine Miss M, Bette Midler was coming to Chicago, namely to promote her new book A View From A Broad at B Dalton books, so off I went, bought the book, stood in line, & not only got it signed, but I have pictures to this day of her visit, over time, the book got lost somehow, but flash forward to a few years ago, I saw that same book at Barnes and Noble, it now sits on my bookshelf where it keeps the rest of my car books company, Walden books I remember going to at Woodfield mall in Schaumburg Illinois, I could get lost in that store for hours, but sadly no more, if there's anything at B&N that catches my eye, great, otherwise I find some good stuff at Books-A-Million,
