When to ACTUALLY go imperial: When you forget to scale up production, start stacking resources, then suddenly hear the "bwoong" sound and start a landmark out of pure panic

its probably not always the right play but sometimes I find myself only using 1 or maybe 2 to imperial up. it lets me bank a lot of resources and build an army, so that it is a bit deceiving for my opponent when I hit it. however in high gold/low plat people tend to not scout enough so that could be the only reason it actually ends up working. I guess my other big issue is that if I spend too much time walling, I never have nearly enough wood to build up production buildings, and then I'm just stuck. I play delhi and I just feel like I'm -always- shy wood, through most of the game.

HI Valdemar, great vid thanks for it! Loved the series. I was hoping for some commentary on going handcannoneer over crossbowman here. I feel like when I'm in imp, I keep making crossbowmen against armoured unit compositions when in fact, hand cannoneers may have been a better choice. Are you able to elaborate on some situations when handcannoners are better than crossbowmen, and when to make each in imp? I mongol main but play a lot of malians as well. Still, am just asking generally. Thanks in advance!

Well, HCs are universally good at dealing damage because they have a high base damage whereas crossbows have a lower base damage but bonus damage vs armored units. Crossbows base damage is still pretty high compared to other units, and since they are ranged, they can deal damage more consistently than melee units. That is why they are good for defending siege and overall dps. I would say, if you have gold enough for massing HCs then do that over Crossbows. Crossbows are just a cheaper version of HCs in some sense.
