Agree 100% James. The only thing that I would add right from the very start is tire plugs and pump. If I had to limit to 5 I would prob drop the booster pack for this. As for music, loud music system should be banned on quads/SxS's. Whenever someone asks "WHAT'S THE BESTS SOUND SYSTEM FOR YOUR QUAD OR SIDE BY SIDE?" my answer always is headphones. No one else should have to be forced to listen to loud music out in nature. Same goes for loud annoying aftermarket exhausts. Keep the good vids coming man.
@Maritimer
@Maritimer 2 жыл бұрын
Yes sir !!! I really wish I mentioned my air compressor... I totally forgot, I meant to mention it along with the tires but I forgot. I HATE sound systems on ATV and SXS.... I think its annoying to hear that in the woods, just the same as I dont care much for loud exhausts.... but people seem to think it's cool or adds a bunch of power to there machine..... putting a slip on exhaust doesnt do much except make noise haha You need a full exhaust to add any power and then you would need to re-tune your bike b/c the motor is set up for a stock exhaust, changing it will change how it all works together Air/Gas/Exhaust...

Been following your channel for years now. Back in 2019 your channel gave me some good insight/inspiration when I purchased my 2019 Grizzly 700 EPS SE. Lot's of good times were had with that quad. Ended up having to relocate for work and needed to sell it as the housing market has just been insane and it was a good chunk of equity. Now I'm settled, missing my ATV and looking to put a new shed up so here I am again! Great video as always. Nothing more relaxing IMO. I almost considered a SXS so I can pack more gear for my trail camps, but I'll probably end up with an ATV as that's what I've always had my whole life and I can get the ATV, trailer, and shed put up for the price of the SXS I want lmao. I'm between a new 700 Grizzly XT-R and a 1000 Outlander XTP. There's just something about those Yamahas and Hondas in terms of reliability. As far back as I can remember we had Yamahas and Hondas growing up. I've never been on a Can Am, but the power is certainly attractive. Not sure if it's worth the trade off though, plus I don't even think I'd need that sort of power on most of the trails I ride. I don't personally know anyone with a Can Am to speak of their dependability. Anyways, end rant. Keep up the great videos!

Good Choice of items , Yes here in Canada we trail ride in the winter , I find if you use the hand warmers you need a second pair of mitts or gloves ,I cant wear warmer gloves with hand warmers .and carry heaver gloves just in case of break down. 7th item is a wendell lol. always carry a snatch block with the winch, We ride in areas where there isn't very many strong trees to winch from, so we carry a 4 foot piece of rebar one end has a loop in it the other end sharpened, pound in on a angle away from quad and hook winch ,when done drive over and pull out with quad. Thanks again for the Great Video .

I found that opening song on the internet several months ago. Love it! As a guide, I would recommend a winch capacity of 3x-4x the weight of your machine. My 1700 lb SxS came with a 3500lb winch. I'm saving to upgrade to a 6,000lb winch. You can get by with a smaller winch if you do a double pull.
@Maritimer
@Maritimer 2 жыл бұрын
hahaha Yeah man I love that song ! and You're right ! it's good to have a bigger winch, my ATV is roughly 600lb empty, my winch is 3000lb so I'm in your range. Yep double pull or if you had a block and shackle set up too.

Can NEVER have enough Gear on you for the Trail! Just never know what and when you'll need it! All of the mods mentioned in this video are ones that once you need / use them, you won't miss the money you spent on them. Usually when you buy a quality ATV or side by side, the manufacture will put the most economical tires on it. So buying a tire that is a RADIAL and at least a 6 ply makes an incredible difference on the trail! Same with a winch. Trails can turn on you in a blink of an eye! When you are on your way back home or to camp after getting yourself out of a gnarly situation, you'll be glad you got that winch! Great Vid Bud! Important info for Newbies to know! Merry Christmas everyone!

#1 is the winch. #2 is hand warmers. #3 storage. #4 axe or saw. #5 tire plug kit. I have the Heat Demons as well. I do like that the grips are a similar size to stock grips, but I really don't like the controls. I much prefer a toggle type switch, and MUCH prefer something that you move in one direction for more heat and the opposite direction for down. IMO, the heat demons would be better if the thumb and grips were on the same circuit and used the two buttons as up and down, rather than cycling between controls, and then cycling through all the settings in order to adjust them. I also find the indicator lights are way too bright, and really distracting at night. I appreciate your vids. Keep em coming. Oh! I forgot, my number 6, for winter riding, is a windshield. It's amazing how much difference it makes when the weather turns cold. Money well spent!
@Maritimer
@Maritimer Жыл бұрын
Hey man ! Yeah I think I said in the video this was Mods for the ATV, so a plug kit/saw/axe aren't really a mod for the ATV, but you're right and those are all things I bring with me too. yeah you are probably right with the controls and the brightness of the LED's to, they can be a bit annoying. YES a windshield does wonders in winter riding ! but I dont know I just cant put one on my machine, I hate the look of it, it reminds me of an old mans bike haha I guess I am old now,,,, maybe I need one haha

Good video and great list to start with. After considering your list I'd add GPS (beyond what a cell phone app can do outside of cell range) and would suggest the Garmin inReach series (I have the mini). And, also thinking outside of cell range, I'd add communications, specifically a HAM radio. If someone is not into HAM radio, then go back to the Garmin inReach, because it can also text using their satellite system, so communication can be established that way, too. Good stuff, and glad you had an enjoyable day in the garage. The salmon looked fantastic! Cheers! Pete - KI7LIL

Great video as usual. Just wondering about your instal on the 1.75 gal rotopax gas container. Can’t find the video on the install….I installed two 1 gal rotopax containers on plastic lid of Yamaha storage box…..Don’t like the loose nuts and bolts through the plastic lid because of air gap between top and bottom of lid. How did you instal the fuel tank, has it held up without any cracking in lid and have any of the fastening bolts/nuts come unloose on bumpy rides, or did you tack weld nuts to the double nut bracket on bottom?
@Maritimer
@Maritimer 2 жыл бұрын
Hey man ! thank you !I didn't do a video on installing my gas tank b/c I wanted to wait to make sure it would hold up before sharing it with you guys. I used a hole saw and removed the 2nd layer of plastic (under the lid) then mounted the mount to the single line of plastic but used large washers on the other side to displace the force. and mine came with lock nuts so I haven't had any issues with it coming loose, no plastic cracking either. My plan is to remove the bigger washers and make one Big aluminum plate to mount in there place on the inside of my lid, to really displace the weight.

I was going to my bags as the storage and tie them down. Hey man ! No issues at all with mine, I believe I have 3500km on it now. I really dont understand it, some people have oil issues and some people don't... I don't even think Yamaha knows why haha I would say that sometimes it depends on how well the person broke it in and treated the machine. I'm fairly easy on my machines, I let it warm up a bit before I ride it, I dont run it at top speed for extended periods of time, keep up with maintenance....

Problem with those booster packs Is they just don't last, bought a good Noco one for several hundred bucks and it couldn't hold a charge like hardly 2 years later. Booster cables are great if you don't ride alone. Maybe one of those super capacitor boosters would be a good solo option, haven't had a good chance to test mine yet but reviews on them look decent and no need to charge then so they can't drain on ya when in storage

Do you carry any form of JACK and a compressor for tyre/tire inflation? I'm carrying a Bottle Jack, but it is heavy and looking for a small Scissor Jack. Do you ever need to reduce tyre/tire pressure and then inflate again? My old Honda 650 still has the Pull Starter and a cigarette lighter jack so as long as I have battery power, I can inflate tyres/tires after a repair or a deflate for bad terrain.

Groomed trails? In NS we have to get off most trails and let the sled boys go. It’s kind of sucky but the sled heads claim the ruts make it too hard. So we are banished on the groomed trails.
@Maritimer
@Maritimer 2 жыл бұрын
Hey man ! Yeah I know all about NS trails, thats too bad, but the sledders do have a point, our ruts do cause them issues, And they travel so fast a rut could cause an accident. Here in NB in the winter there are Sled only trails which we would be shot if we ride on haha but some of the ATV clubs have Groomers, so they groom the trails in the winter, then they are usually "shared" so the sledders can ride them if they want. But generally don't b/c of the ruts haha
