The issue I have with Amsoil is that they state that they exceed the Dexos requirements, but they refuse to pay for a license for it. I've spoken to them and they refuse to pay for a license for Dexos certification. The problem I have with that is that if they spent some of the advertising money on a license, they would increase their clout and could wave the flag better. Saying you're great without the "ticket" to prove it is like going to a concert without a ticket and expecting to be let in because "you should know who I am". The key is to use the right oil for the right application, use a good filter and change it when you can. That's what works for most folks.

I called them up and I asked them why they say 100% synthetic but when you look at the material safety data sheet it's not 100% synthetic and they say that they have no comment they cannot talk to me about that

@@FordBossMe I can believe it. They gave me the same business with the Dexos license saying that they don't want to reveal their formula for testing. Yet the big oil companies do. They steer around that and I'm suspect of it. There are a lot of better oils out there for the price. You have to be careful with some of the "botique oils" and what standards they meet and don't meet, especially if you're going to use them on a vehicle in warranty. Yes, the Magnuson-Moss Act protects you, but it's an easier battle if you have your ducks in a row and have receipts backing up that you bought oil that meets the manufacturer's standards. Amsoil is a big company, they can easily afford a Dexos license. The "lower" tier and cheaper oils such as ST and others pay for a license. Why shouldn't Amsoil?

The Winning Formula: Change it every 5,000 miles OR 6 months. Any synthetic classified as "SP"/ILSAC GF-6A will do!!! Miles and months are way more important than the price of the synth' motor oil!!!

Thank you for saluting the flag every morning. I am the son of a legal immigrant as a child that was our first chore every morning, raising the flag. Money was tight so my dad made his own out of left over pipe. The ball on top was an old ballcock that was brass. At the breakfast table every morning he would tell us how lucky we were to be born in the U.S.A. I use the Havoline oil and have gotten 300K plus miles out of my truck.(change 5000K) Dad has been gone for over 10 years but I still raise the flag every morning. Enjoy your channel. God bless, 👍

I switched from M1 to Pennzoil UP two years ago. I based my decision on the FBM and Project Farm channels. I have every 5K oil sample tested by Blackstone Labs, and the reports have been stellar. Pulling the valve covers on both of my vehicles reveals very clean valvetrains, with zero off-color yellowing, or varnish. I see no reason to run anything other than PUP.

I never had a negative experience with pennzoil ultra it definitely quieted the bbq tick the old 5.0 that I replaced in my 2017 f150 but I did pull the valve covers after I pulled it out and I never let it go beyond 3500 miles most oil changes were around 3k and there was a good amount of varnish on the phasers and cams. For a oil that’s all about cleaning I’ve seen way cleaner engines running on Valvoline so I’ve decided to stick with Napa full synthetic and a can of MOA between changes

Nobody can't say we don't have a good variety of motor oils to choose from in this country. I run Walmart SuperTech oil. Have for decades now. My latest car is a FIAT 500, picked up at 124k miles. It's unique because its intake valvetrain is hydraulically operated using engine oil for pressure (Multiair). I had access to lots of oil at the time so I flushed the engine oil at 50 miles, 100, miles, 500 miles & 1000 miles when I first got it. I've got the oil clean now which the Multiair likes, and change it at 2500 miles now. I've got a STP 10,000 mile filter on the engine & nothing leaks.

However I noticed with the GF6 I was starting to burn a tad bit more oil and I wasn’t sure if it’s because the new GF six specifications or I’m getting up there in mileage you know on a flat engine that happens anyway long story short I’ve noticed a reduced oil consumption with Pennzoil ultra.

Hyundai (2021 Palisade with the 3.8 GDI 6cyl) has included oil changes (synthetic blend, brand unknown) every 7,500 miles. I've been paying for the ones in between, so I've been having the oil changed every 3,700'ish miles since new (currently at 20k). I've got two more of their "free" oil changes (22k and 30k) and after that I'm going to switch over to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and do it myself. Should I keep doing it at 3,700 miles like it has been or do you recommend, since it's full synthetic and a known oil to you, increasing to 5k between changes? 75% of my driving is around town or short distances.

Hey Rich, I dug up some more dirt on the North 69 oils. There is a seller in Canada where I live selling to consumers 5L jugs at $20 CAD or just about $15 USD and then on to of that wholesale prices to auto repair shops. I am worried that this oil is completely unknown and of very low quality, and sold through a reseller for a bottom barrel price. This same oil on Amazon is $65 CAD. Should I cut my losses, accept that the auto shop was queetionable at best... and just change the oil at 1500 miles? My car has 146k miles. I stocked up on all the heavy hitters. Pennzoil Platinum High mileage, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, and 4 jugs of Valvoline maxlife HM. Also to my fellow Canadians. Canadian tire might still have the Pennzoil Platinums on sale for $38.99 for the jug and Pennzoil has the coupon for $20 if you buy two jugs and send the receipt. If you got the bonus CT money, on four jugs which cost $170 after tax, i got $70 back in CT money and the oennzoil coupon!!!

There's a cheap engine oil, dedicated to Ford Wss M2C 913-D specs here in Europe, called Meguin Surface Protection 5W30. Made in Germany. I don't know if this oil's available in the US, but it should get a test course.

Hi Rich, I would really like your recommendation, and I hope you take a few minutes to read and reply. I have a 2009 Ford Focus that now has about 125,500 miles on it. I have only used 5w20 Red Line since my first oil change. Yes, I did buy this car new. I also have the Amsoil universal dual oil-filtration system. The by-pass filter is the BP-110 which is a 2-quart filter. My current oil capacity is 7 quarts. I intend to install the Frantz by-pass filter which would then increase the capacity to 8-quarts. I have also used some different oil additives over the years, and I have religiously changed my oil every 5,000 miles. Rich, this engine runs extremely smooth. Currently, Amazon sells the Red Line 5w20 for $65.62 for a 1-gallon jug. When you add the tax into this, we are now talking about $140.00 for one oil change. Also, think about this, 16 quarts of Red Line would cost $262.48. Then add the 6% government rape of $15.75, and you now have $278.23. I can now buy the 3-pack of 5-quart jugs of the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W20 for $121.75 or the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W30 for $79.29. Would you switch to 5W30? Would you switch to Pennzoil over Red Line while using my very superior filtration system? Also, please research a company called Bell Performance. I am using their Ethanol Defense, and their X-Tra Lube, and I also have a tube of their grease. This company has been around for over 100 years, and I hardly ever see anyone on KZfaq mentioning them. After watching your show, and understanding how much you respect Marvel Mystery Oil. I think a great fuel additive would be to add 8 ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil with 2 ounces of the Bell Performance Ethanol Defense for 20 gallons of gas. You would then be using products from 2 companies that have been in business for over 100 years. Rich, my name is Ernest and I'm from Baltimore. I have enjoyed watching many of your videos. Take Care, my brother. God Bless.

2016 Kia Soul 1.6L with pretty bad oil consumption the last 20k miles…I’m wondering if I should start doing my own oil changes using Pennzoil UP instead of going to the dealer. Have also considered trying to go 5W-30 instead of 5W-20…would that make a difference? It’s got a lifetime powertrain warranty so I’m torn between letting it blow and getting it replaced or doing what I can to maintain it now😅

Those GDI gamma engines carbon up the rings really bad just like the Audi/VW turbo 2.0 engines, burn tons of oil There's a procedure we do at the shop where we take the plugs out of the warm engine, pour really aggressive GDI intake cleaner into the cylinders and let it sit for a few hours and it slowly dissolves and weakens the carbon, after a good while we suck out the cylinders and drain the oil, put fresh cheap oil and put the plugs back in, push the car outside and it's gonna smoke like a MF and stall out a bunch when you first start it, give it some Right foot high idle until the smoke clears some, then take it for an Italian tune up, foot to the floor and redline it a bunch, then change the oil again and put in good stuff You gotta be careful and attention is needed but this never fails to free up carboned up oil control rings, we've had several Audis and friends with 1.6 hyundais that have completely stopped burning oil :)

I have a genuine question for you Rich. If it is ok to run high mileage oil in a low mile engine, as it is just more add pack, then is there any reason not to run high mileage oil over the regular stuff of the same product line? Its usually the same price anyway right?
@FordBossMe

Rod - thus its a better adpack So high mileage oils are the better bet in any never application from the late 90s up

Be curious what oil analysis shows with Supertech, Costco etc oil if a person is only running them for say, 5k mi. Understand frequent heavy towing, running up to redline on the regular, &/or pushing the oil to 7,500mi (or more), but for the guy changing things out on a shorter interval, does it matter which oil he uses provided it's the right viscosity range?

I’m going to switch from mobile 1 to Pennzoil platinum ultra in my 2020 F150 5.0. My owners manual says 5W20, 2021 and up now calls for 5W30. Would you go 20 or 30 weight in my case? Live in central TX so it’s very hot and I tow occasionally

I have a 2020 mustang gt 5.0 and live in Texas and I highly recommend that you switch to at least a 5w30 if not a 5w40 you will notice much quieter smother running 5w20 is too light for 12:1 compression
