I swear if Pride and Prejudice wasn’t listed as #1 I wouldn’t have slept for days cuz I would be reading the book 3times and watching both the Keira version and the 1995 BBC version multiple times to make sure I was right. Pride and Prejudice is no doubt the novel that made me fall in love with not only Jane Austen but literature in general. Used to only read sparknotes until 9th grade? but Pride and Prejudice made me realize that its not just the plot but the actual, literal words that make you appreciate a work.

Room with a View and 1968 Romeo and Juliet are my favorites from your list. I like the TV mini-series of Sense and Sensibility from 2008 better than the Emma Thompson movie. I like Persuasion with Rupert Penry-Jones and several versions of Jane Eyre (especially the 2011 version with Michael Fassbender.).

Atonement is a hard one to place simply as a period piece romance. It was more of a tragedy than romance but I suppose some of the most epic romances are also tragedies 😭😭😭

Ugh Atonement. That movie infuriates me. But it is very well written. However I wouldn't call it a romance, more like a tragedy.

Strangely, Fassbender was a bit of an underwhelming Rochester, though. I would have thought him to be perfect for the role.

I adore Jane Eyre, both movie and book. I have several film versions on DVD. This one is good, but by no means the best one. It is barely regular movie length and leaves out so much of the story. The best one is a mini series staring Toby Stephens. Love it!!

Love and own the story of North and South in book and dvd but the list is of cinematic movies. North and South was a TV series on the BBC, so wouldn't be included.

When I wrote North and South, I was thinking of the mini-series by the same name depicting life of one family in the wake of the American Civil War starring the late great Patrick Swayze, which was 1st broadcast in the 1980’s. I have yet to view the one with Richard Armitage, but I really enjoyed his acting in The Hobbit trilogy. I’m sure it is everything that people have said about it and more, so when I do have the opportunity to view it I will do so.😊

Belle is an amazing persona that every woman out there seek to be, confident, kind and brilliant. Her witty tongue can slay any ghastly or inferior opinion towards her, her character is far superior to those even in the 21st century and that includes me.

Young Victoria - have not seen it. Will though. Belle - Simple but marvelous. I loved it. Jane Eyre - My favorite film version of Jane Eyre. Mia was great as Jane. I might add this is my favorite book of all time. The reason I love literature. The reason why I'm a writer. I simply adore this story. Atonement - So good and sad!!! Ughh what a sour story. Wouldn't categorize it as "romantic" story. Pride and Prejudice - It had to be in this list. "You have bewitched me body and soul." If that doesn't bring you chills, you r not a human. 😂

This scene here just tore my chest open. “So what do you recommend to encourage affection? Dancing. Even if ones partner is barely tolerable.” This scene made me so proud. Along with my #1, Gone With The Wind, these movie bring me just so much joy and strength.... ;)

@@tiahilenequeen4557 Soooo have you watched it yet ? It's one of my favorite movie because it's excellent but damn I was a wreck. It left you sad and angry at the same time. The movie is extremely wellmade and the plot manipulates you quite a bit then the ending unfolds and you're just speachles. Book is good too.

Pride and Prejudice all the way. What's not to love with Mr.Darcy?? The chemistry is too good. And until now, I don't have the courage to watch Atonement eventhough the two lead stars are my most favorite actors. I only read the full story in wiki, it's good enough for me, the story was so sad it really hurt me. Ugh, I'm too single to be like this hahahaha 😂

I love pride and prejudice, I believe it is one of the greatest period romance movies. It is so inspiring that a women chooses love and not wealth, especially back in the day when that's all people cared about. After watching this video I watched Belle, Atonement and Jane Eyre. The movies mentioned in the video are some of the greatest period romance movies of all time and I believe more people should watch them,

Jane Eyre was my first English book I read. i couldn't blink eat or drink during those 7 hours. i love it so much that i force my friends to read it . it was our first book we read to together . so from that book we start a reading club .5 years pass and i still have my reading club friends but i lost the book ahhhh i give it to so many friends that i even forget to who .

Becoming Jane & Little Women are 2 amazing films!! ^-^ (I knew there was another Jane Austen's film I'd watched before.. I used to love Pride & Prejudice, but somehow I was a bit disappointed when I watched it again, recently). Shakespeare in Love is also really good. 💕

I love all of these movies (except I've never seen Atonement), but every iteration of Jane Eyre standing up to Mr. Rochester for toying with her feelings makes me emotional.

Katrina De Silva Far From The Maddening Crowd is the most amazing book ever. I like the old version of the movie, the new one was not true to the book.

The best part of the movie "THE YOUNG VICTORIA" must had been when Albert was laying in bed hurting and he said this to her: This was absolutely my favourite part in the whole movie when he said these things to her: I HAD TWO VERY GOOD REASONS, FIRST, I AM REPLACEABLE AND YOU ARE NOT, and then she say THIS to him: YOU ARE NOT REPLACEABLE TO ME. And then he says this: SHH, SECOND.... YOU ARE THE ONLY WIFE I'VE GOT OR EVER WILL HAVE, YOU ARE MY WHOLE EXISTENCE. AND I WILL LOVE YOU UNTIL MY LAST BREATH.

I'd suggest adding Stage Beauty to the list (it has Claire Danes and Billy Crudup as stars). It's funny and sad and maddening and fascinating (and yes, there's romance in it, even if it's a bit untraditional).

Agree with Young Victoria and Belle / Jane Eyre (prefer the version with Ruth Wilson) / For Jane Austen folks - I would add Emma (Gwyneth Paltrow version) / Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth version) / Mansfield Park (Francis O'Connor version) / Persuasion (Ciaran Hinds version)

Still can't get over Atonement. Still frustrates me that things did not go well even in the end. Guess that's what made this movie memorable.

I swear I had PTSD for a week after I watched Atonement. So brilliantly done. The Director is a genius to make such a film that leaves you literally breathless. (due to crying)
