Gosh Nexomon extinction was the most fun i've had with any monster taming game. PLEASE pay attention to the story. The story was a 10/10 in my book and way more deep than something like pokemon ever acheived imo. I'm a pokemon fanboy and grew up playing each and every generation too.

There are so many good monster taming games, that I'm not sure I'd be able to make a top 5 list XD Except for Coromon which is without a doubt my Top 1, at least for now.

Now that monster crown has received some patches I can definitely recommend it. The devs clearly care and it shows and the game is really cool. I've played some Temtem and cant wait for it to come to switch. Can't wait for Coromon. Nexomon is great.

Dude i freaking LOVE your channel. I'm an old school monster tamer fan. My first monster taming game was Revelations the demon slayer and as I'm a millennial I was there and played pokemon blue day one release. I just picked up SMT5 oddly enough i never actually played any of the other SMT's. My favorite monster taming game of all time was Dragon warrior Monsters: I played that game for hours, Me and a buddy would battle and trade. I actually found my new obsession Monster Santuary because of you. Thank you so much for your channel and keeping this genre alive.

Digimon: Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory are really good alternatives with a huge history.

Honestly, I'm really excited about Cassette Beasts. That one just looks like a fun game with all of the fusions that you can make.

The game that got me into playing other monster tamer games was digimon cyber sleuth and hackers memory. It really is a great game. After that I played nexomon which as you say is amazing

My favorite is Temtem, cause as people say the gameplay is the most important. Plus MMORPG was one of the highly requested stuff for Pokemon, and I like MMORPG too so that helps. I actually like the story alot even though it may not be as good as Nexomon atleast it's still good. I do admit my problem lies with the grind though sadly, but that's it I think. Lol XD

If Temtem could be played offline, I'd check it out, but unfortunately it requires being online from what I've heard. Also with Nexomon, keep in mind that it has no multiplayer whatsoever, not even a PVP. At least it doesn't on the PS4.

I love the games on this list except for Temtem, it feels too competitive focused for my taste. My favorite Monster Tamer (non pokemon like) is Siralim Ultimate, I love how they take the best parts of these types of games, expands on them and doesn't have a ton of fluff. Nice for when you don't want a ton of story and dialogue, and infinite replayability.

It’s exciting to see how much the genre has grown within a year, I know I already plan on playing Nexomon 1 & 2 in between BDSP & LA releases. Coromon and Monster Crown also caught my interest as well, but I’ll probably play those after LA while waiting for the next Pokémon game.

Nexomon and Nexomon:Extinction are my favorite monster taming games and I agree that those great games are great for people that wath to start playing other monster taming that are like pokemon .

Thanks for the video! After Sword and Shield I'm looking for other Monster Tamers (I love Digimon as well, though nothing new for that series atm) and I do have some of them on that list. I tried Tem Tem and while I did enjoy it for a bit... the grindness of it is kinda taking me out. It's been many months since I last played it so perhaps it's worth coming back. I got Nexomon Extinction and I LOVED every bit of it! Really great game and one of the funniest too! I beat it and currently trying to collect all Nexomon and got to 303 right now. Sadly not a single Cosmic Nexomon even with all Shiny Charms collected. >_> And I did get the first game Nexomon on the Switch... haven't played it yet. Monster Crown not really interested in it that much. Though I do LOVE that the monsters follow you around like some Pokemon games does... maybe I could check it out at least? But, honestly, Coromon is the one I'm MOST looking forward to! It looks so beautiful with the spritework and the gameplay looks great. Can't wait for it to come out officially.

I’m an adult Pokémon fan. I grew up with Pokémon around the 2000s. Around the releases of Sun and Moon, I’d.. simply gotten a little jaded of Pokémon’s formula. Each newer installment after Mega Evolution felt more and more gimmicky. Not to say it felt too repetitive. I still love the franchise, but the games haven’t felt very, new, or fresh, in a bolder sense. I still like every other aspect of the franchise. The Mystery dungeon games and other spin-offs from the mainline series, the anime, and the Adventures manga. I still collect Pokémon cards. All that said, I’m glad to see there are fans that were inspired to create some pretty interesting monster tamer games. Looks like good alternatives for older fans like myself. I like Ed’s content, especially lists like this, and coverage of newer indie monster tamers.

How is Digimon Cyber Sleuth not on this list? Its a monster taming game and a well polished one at that.

For Pokemon, there's speculation channels, controversy channels, let's play channels, And then there's Gym Leader Ed.

I would recommend Evocero it have type gyms like pokemon and evil team plus typing it have alot of abilities your mons can learn that are passive and must be selected to use them. The combat is turn base but instead of using pp different moves have different cool downs but different abilities can change those cool downs.their also alot of moves your mons can learn and you can see what level your going to learn an attack. But you can only have 5 attacks one ultimate one heal and 3 basic that can all be switch around between your other same color attacks since all heal skills are green basic is blue and ultimate I think are orange. You use links their pokeball to catch the mons oh your trainer grow levels and get skill points you can use in a skill tree to learn how to run or more exp for your mons it's pretty fun and very pokemon like so will be good for pokemon fans.

I've been addicted the shiny system in Coromon. The rush I have when I got 1 of my 5 perfects was awesome and potents keep coming back for more as well. Lol

If anyone reads this: check monster sanctuary Its a gem - great singleplayer experience but the PvP is limiltless specially with a friend or two

Nexomon Extinction became my most favorite monster taming game. Hoping the third game would be great. I also thinking maybe getting Monster Crown since I saw it on Amazon pretty cheap physically for the Switch.

personal fav (even though its sadly IoS exclusive) is "Haypi Monster: The Lost Tower" i personally like it, even though its not really played a lot anymore

Coromon is the one I'm looking forward to. I typically don't go looking for Pokemon alternatives specifically, but that game looks gorgeous, has my type of humor and the music is amazing. Monster Crown was a personal disappontment though. As a fan of Dragon Warrior Monsters and Siralim, it should be my perfect game, but the general bugginess drove me off. Which is sad, but that's what Early Access does to a guy. Maybe I'll play it in the future, but I keep hearing about bugs.

Great, just bought Nexomon extinction, I checked out Voltsy's let's play really quick and it looks promising. Hoping this will finally scratch my pokemon replacement itch because, I wasn't really feeling Cassette Beasts unfortunately. I really wanted to like the game but idk maybe I'm missing something, the questing sometimes seems unclear or hard and I don't really like the monster designs and how there are no gym leaders (I believe).

Monster world and evo creo lite are also pokemon like games😊

Nice video! I start play nexomon extinction in these days and the story in amazing! I play on my phone and I also really like the graphic. I find a lot of pokemon' fans said that there is no creativity in nexomon design, plbut in my opinion the few nexomons that I see right now are really cool and I prefer them than Pokémon. The ghost type in my opinion in the best for design!

Honestly nexomon extinction in my opinion has very glaring issues with gameplay being just spam 150 base power moves with no strategy at all because no mons actually learn any coverage

Coromon has the best art. Nexomon I still can't grow to like it cause it's generic and doesn't have abilities, type advantages, just needs to be higher level and that's it. Tem tem looks nice but I thought we were getting it on switch late 2021.

Nexomon extinction is good for a playthrough but it lets itself down because of the incredibly shallow combat system(status moves are a complete waste of time) and the unnecessary rarity labels. Monster crown is much better but I picked up the game yesterday(on Switch) and the bugs are game breaking, every play session ends in a game breaking bug so I constantly have to go back and replay. In a few months it will be worth playing for sure, so much potential. Monster Sanctuary isn’t on Ed’s list but I still feel that’s the best Pokémon like game out there at the moment, combat is amazing and it’s a very polished product. Can’t wait to play Coromon next year! It looks so good!

Nexomon was great. Tem Tem I have not played yet but the other 3 look like an eye sore that do not belong on current gen but on some older video game system =(

Tried Nexomon Extinction as my first pokemon-like game and initially liked it but by the time I finished it I ended up thinking it was really flawed and I still have some lingering feelings of regret. Something about the game felt off, something about it felt unpolished. The elemental system for one thing is not properly balanced (there are obvious elemental types you just don't bother using at all because there is less benefit in doing so). The other thing is the story (which I will avoid spoiling) which is certainly a twist but doesn't feel like it was built up to right or had the right kind of emotional weight put on it (if you thought SWSH had issues in pacing, this has that and issues with judging proper emotional weight in scenes). Folks argue that the story is supposedly more "deep" than pokemon but I can't agree with that especially when it undermines itself with really lame or really forced jokes. I'm still willing to give the original a shot to see if it does any better but if not, I'll just on to Coromon and Monster Crown. I grew up playing pokemon, digimon and monster rancher games (I've also played some SMT, DQ Monsters and Robopon 2) so my gaming expericence is pretty well-rounded when it comes to creature collection/raising games. It is hard to find newer games that manage to hit that right mix that makes gameplay fun and the story engaging and compelling (even digimon is having that issue).
