I agree and understand. Before I retired, I only talked to one person that actually "got it". I take care of my property and spend time sitting on the porch, chatting with my wife, petting the dog and enjoying a cold beer. My bills are handled and putting away some money to help others. This is how we want to live.

What “they” don’t understand is that you are happy; you are content; you don’t need to escape on vacation to find what you already have. These people asking the question(s) are searching for what you already have…, they are escaping from “their life” hoping a vacation will bring them some joy and happiness because isn’t that what everybody does? The difference between you and them, you are in a place of happiness/joy and contentment. They are still looking!!! Keep doing YOU!!

I'm happy with simplicity, as well. However, at 70, I need to make my life easier with doing things that require manual labor... I love gardening & yard work, cooking & canning. Housework to me is a waste of time so I have a Roomba, dishwasher, etc. Time and energy have become precious commodities.

When a person becomes debt-free, there seems to also be this automatic thinking shift. I notice many people go into stores & flea markets just looking for something to strike their fancy to buy. I personally used to love to go to stores & do the same. Now, i find myself not at all interested. I usually shop for something that will make my life more convenient & comfortable, & i do alot of research before actually buying. I notice the same w/food. Once i learned about how toxic most foods are, i lost all desire & temptation in purchasing them. Those foods hold no desire for me.

Loved this episode! My answers: 1. Semi-professional sewing machine, $1600, however - I do sell some of my sewing as a side hustle and I also enjoy making my own clothes and home decor items, so I am really happy with the purchase 2. Two baskets to store yarn (I knit a lot) - $24 in total 3. Leather handbag, $110. Just so happened that after over a decade of using exclusively only backpacks I decided to get a more elegant option to carry my belongings in certain occasions 4. Hmm I rarely eat out, maybe like once in 3-6 months, similar to you I prefer and feel best eating home made food. The last take away was a burger and chips for less than $15. 5. I'm in my pajamas! Lol I'm watching this late in evening while knitting and about to go to sleep. I sewed the linen pants myself, the cost of a fabric must have been less than $10, and a basic top I bought years ago, I'm guessing for $10-15. That was fun! I'm far from you in my spending habits, if I didn't put any effort I'd be a 'natural spender' but I am taking control the best I can and hate being in debt. Watching videos like yours is like being in a support group, and gives motivation to stay on track when everyone around are going the opposite way...

I've been watching your channel for a long time and in my opinion, you live a comfortable life and seem content with what you have. You are financially secure which is a blessing in itself and have family, friends, and two wonderful dogs for companionship. You own your home, furniture, and car outright so you're not saddled with high-interest loans while trying to pay everything off. Having an expensive house, car, boat, and taking exotic vacations, etc doesn't necessarily make one happy. I also live what many would consider a simple but boring life and I'm content.

Our financial advisor (fiduciary) commented several times during our last meeting that our modest lifestyle has empowered us, on modest incomes, to accumulate a net worth, not including real estate (our house is in a bypass trust) in PP's category. Our retirement funds will last our lifetimes, set at 95 years of age for each of us, and leave a legacy. She also said we could spend significantly more in retirement than our projected requirements. We do enjoy our money! We save on things we don't care about, we spend more on things we do care about - good butter, English tea, good shoes, overseas travel...I can be generous to others. I don't see how spending on things that don't bring me joy counts as enjoying my money.

Happiness is being content with what you have and not wanting more. You exemplify that so well, PP. Living below your means can be enjoyable. I like to think of saving money/spending less like a game. It’s fun to discover treasure at a thrift shop or yard sale. At the same time, I don’t buy just to buy. I want to be intentional about my decisions. I wouldn’t call myself a minimalist; maybe I’m an “enoughist”! I have enough and don’t need more. That being said, I think my most recent purchase covers all three of your first questions: most recent, most expensive and last luxury item. It’s an e-bike! To me, it’s a luxury that I didn’t need but will enjoy. Purchased just last week. For last food out, I bought a drink and a snack last week at a restaurant owned by a friend. It was about $8. Since its’s only 7am I’m still in my pajamas which I bought from Target last year for about $30. And a hoodie that I’ve had for so many years that I can’t remember what it cost.

Hi Prepper Princess, first of all I would like to say that I really admire you and your lifestyle! Unfortunately, I live on a disability benefit and I therefore live below the poverty line. I enjoy living as frugally as possible and I still manage to save a little every month. You are a huge inspiration to me and I am in the process of starting my own KZfaq channel to teach and inspire others to make ends meet on very little money. So thanks for being my hero! 1. The most expensive thing in my house is my central heating system (worth about € 1,000) 2. Thanks to you, the last thing I bought was a toothpaste squeezer (€ 2.79) 3. Last luxury purchase: a television (€ 365) that I regret because I don't watch it at all. I always use my iPad. 4. Some fried food for around € 11. Takeaway meals are my weak spot. That definitely needs to be worked on! 5. The clothes I wear: jeans and blouse from the thrift store (total € 5), shoes were free (a friend bought them, but didn't like them (???)), underwear always new (total € 15 ) and a new T-shirt (€ 5.95). 😘

I have always lived beneath my means. We own our house and cars outright. I am not cheap, just thrifty. 1. My remodeled kitchen 2. Some shorts and a new purse. 3. A new Honda SUV in 2020 to replace my 21 year old van. 4. Fast food for two people 15 dollars. 5. The clothes I am wearing at the moment consist of a t-shirt I won, a pair of capris from Sam's Club and no shoes. I only dress nicely to go out of the house. I enjoy having nice things, travel vacations and eating out now and then. But I buy everything on sale, some kind of a deal or win it. I agree with you that financial freedom is priceless. We have had that for many years. However, going on nice vacations is something I enjoy and feel are worth every cent.

I laughed out loud when a viewer said you had a mental illness! I guess such extreme frugality is hard for many to get their head around. I have been practicing frugality since 1994, after reading Your Money or Your Life. I was able to eventually get out of any debt which enabled me to work part time. And then retire. I now live in a one bedroom unit in a leafy Brisbane suburb in Australia. All my needs are met without the hassle of owning excess stuff. I also have my dream car: a 2014 Toyota Yaris, which I intend to keep until we all have to go electric. I also live within a couple of hours of beautiful beaches, mountains and countryside and feel no need to travel overseas or go on expensive vacations. Because I am retired, every day is a holiday! I'm not quite as frugal as you though. I do eat out a few times a week for lunch only, because many ethnic restaurants in my area have very cheap lunch specials. Like you, I use the free resources of the local libraries and go to a book club once a month.

I was thinking of you and remembered, Plato said, "The greatest wealth is to live content with little." That reminds me of you. :) What amazes me is how committed the world seems to be to you using your money. To me, wealth should bring a sense of peace and reassurance that if you ever do need something urgently, like an operation or dental work, you have the ability to deal with it. In your position I would feel content and know that the desire for "things" is a desire for something that is missing in life, and not those "things", which I suspect, is what you do know. 👍

Mark twain said: True happiness comes from being busy. I would add to that: you need to keep busy striving for a goal. That is the answer for your question, “what should I spend my money on?” Buying things only brings short term joy, not long-term happiness. I am similar to you in that: I cut my own lawn, I fix and service my car as needed. My 40-yearold dryer recently broke. I took It apart and fixed it myself with a little help from KZfaq. My friends all say” you got the money, hire somebody” I will when I can’t do it anymore. Until them I am happy keeping busy.

I guess I would be curious when you would start treating yourself to more comfort. It’s not about material objects but you have said in the past that you freeze in the winter etc. and there comes a time a person needs to be kinder to their body and health as you get older. So to me not being willing to upgrade heating or cooling or basic comforts (and let me stress … basic, not luxury or wasteful spending) seems counterintuitive to enjoying the benefits of saving in other areas.

One of my best friends spends all her money every single month on stuff. I am frugal, I don’t. She never has money for emergencies, no savings and she told me she feels stressed about it a lot. I have a very nice amount of savings, I never stress about money. She has to work a fulltime job to support her spending. I work about 10-15 hours a week witch gives me a lot of free time to enjoy. She thinks I am crazy for not ‘enjoying’ my money, she also thinks that she deserves to spend all her money because she works so hard. I don’t understand her, she doesn’t understand me. It was $100 for 2 steaks and sides. 5. The clothes I'm wearing is only about $10. The shirt and shoes were gifts. The lounge pants were clearance. I always say the reason a person has money is if they don't waste it. So, I completely understand why you don't feel the need to buy certain things you already have! My hubby and I are like minded on saving money and don't even usually do anything for special occasions, but decided to this year. We aren't millionaires, but we aren't in debt. Thank you for your channel, and advice P.P. 😊

Also , your way of living makes sense. Most of what we buy- not all but most - do we really need it?? Yes we want it but do we need it? enjoy your tips and kind way of presenting your thoughts. Thank you.

1. Truck camper - purchased 8 years ago. (Our primary vehicle will be 20 years old next year.) 2. Five tee shirts on sale $22.00 each for #3. 3. Hurtigruten Expedition to Nome, Alaska, in July. (We are retired and that's where we spend some of our life savings - traveling with as few people as possible to places off the beaten path.) 4. Breakfast @ our favorite vegan restaurant - $12.00 5. No watch - 5 year old, cheap tee and sweat pants. I think there are a lot more people that feel the same way as you do about spending money. My sister never paid close to $50 for a pair of shoes in her 70 years of life on this earth. There was nothing extra in her house.

Utah Jeff ….. here… interesting story ….Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek series & movies was asked “ Why is there no mention of money in your shows ? “ His response was “ We are way past that! As long as everyone has the resources they need …. Money is just a number. Being thrifty and generous is not a crime. It is a commitment you have made to yourself. As a kindred spirit I totally understand. Many people wonder why I still work 2 jobs at age 70 ? I just enjoy working and the money is not that important really … other than I really enjoy the $4.00 meal deal at Wendy’s every day almost.

1. I'm already enjoying my money...watching it grow in my bank account every month. 2. I'm so cheap because I started saving late in life and don't want to be old, broke and in debt. 3. I'm obsessed with saving because being able to pay my bills in full and live without debt makes me happier than spending. 4. I'm a Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef so I don't eat out often but a few times a year I get what I can't make at home...probably BBQ ribs. 5. I have a capsule wardrobe and wear only one style of pants and shoes year-round. Pants $17, shoes $28, top ~$5, no jewelry. Total $50.

I absolutely do not need anything. I owned a home in Sonoma for 31 years and sold everything in it when I sold my home in November 2020. I moved to the East Coast because my son had moved to Norfolk. I hate it here. I sometimes wish I needed something to shop for. I have become extremely conservative when it comes to spending money. I live on Social Security, annuity income and dividends from the money from the sale of my home. I am 69 and got myself a job in a vegan kitchen. So that is extra income. I am renting a room in a condo for $600/month and I have no more house responsibilities. I am not happy as I have a longing to Find my new Home. I have no idea where that is but it is not on the east coast.. I love and adore my 2005 Nissan Xterra and do not want a new car. I Have travelled and have owned a motorcycle! Any positive affirmations for me? Thank you.

I live in NH I say the same thing." People come here for vacation" I haven't seen all of new England's attractions. A vehicle is a thing and a boat..A boat is probably the largest money pit you can waste an investment in. Unfortunately not many people even save money yet obsessed, most of us become obsessed when it's to late too close to retirement.1. TREK checkpoint and TREK FX sport 6. 2. Pellet stove 3. My trek FX sport 6. 4. Mr Mac's pulled pork Mac and cheese $11.99. 5. Amazon long sleeve tee 7.00 Wrangler jeans 30.00 wolverine steel toe boots 69.00.

No one should tell anyone what to buy or get into your financial business. You've done well for yourself and you have a good balanced life. I'm like you, I don't need things....to make me happy. What makes me happy is getting in a good financial position for self preservation and to help others.

1. Most valuable: Gifts from my parents 2. Last new purchase: Socket wrench set for DIY repair, weed wacker battery and wedding gift 3. Last luxury purchase: My horse and saddle (2009) 4. Last time dining out: Mexican food, in March. $35, drinks too, split with a friend. I never dine out, cook 99% of the time. 5. Cute cotton nightdress, 3.00 at Goodwill, two years ago! Your money-saving lessons DO get heard, just want you to know. I shop my closet and house first if I think I 'need' something. I once had a lot, and squandered a lot, some stole a lot, now I'm older and somewhat wiser and keeping a lot, but more than that, not needing a lot, and happier than ever! Stop over-explaining to those buffoons who don't get it. Keep preaching to the ones that do.

1. If it has to be a thing (and can't be my cat), I'd say 6 paintings I bought from Hungarian female painters. 2. Last bought a few cans of Annie Sloane paints because I want to spice up my living room furniture. 3. Luxury item, if can be, dinner at a Greek restaurant then theatre. 4. Gyros, feta tampura and filo pastry with goats cheese and spinach (shared with my friend who I went with). Cost around $31 plus ~$4 tip. 5. Sweatpants - $37 (bought new and heck I don't know what costs £30 on sweatpants but couldn't find thrifted in my size) shirt - bought years ago so not sure but around $10. I have a fitness watch, noname $30? And I'm wearing glasses which is the most expensive on me ever 🤓 $155ish.
