I agree with most of the list but I'd add the Prologue in Origins. I remember when I first played it, I was fascinated by the concept which I hadn't seen before and all the 3 origin quests were brilliantly written to give the character a deep background and stablish their personalities from the get go. It had everything from action to tragedy and even the option to be "evil" at times. To me, that was the one thing that set Origins apart from other games within and outside the franchise.
@Robert53area
@Robert53area Жыл бұрын
Yes, the prologue in origins was so good at striking anger that it drives you to finish the game. You want logain to suffer for his crime of betrayal. Which 2 and 3 just don't do. I actually only finished 3 once, with an elf mage. But I always had several characters, once I got past threes prologue the game just becomes a grind. The only other real suspense is the ball and preventing the queens death

Not to mention, if you notice, the other origins people are in the game too. They just didn't survive. Some are obvious, like the dwarves, but the elves, Mage, and noble are a lot more subtle

I gotta mention The Decent dlc in inquisition. The sheer scope of how it times into and even changes your view on the known lore of dwarves and thedas as a whole. You always hear talk of how they are born from the mountain and worship the stone. Its not until that dlc that you really start understanding how literal it is, and the implications of everything you discover down there.

Top moments for me: 1. The song after Haven's attack 2. Corypheus talks about Golden City - Beg that i succeed, for i have seen the throne of the gods and it was empty! 3. The reveal of Inquisitor Ameridan 4. Titans reveal 5. Morrigan (Yes Morrigan is one of the best written characters and i love the full circle her story makes if she drinks from the Well of Sorrows)

Ugh all that remains 😭😭 my Hawke had been supporting the templars just to avoid their scrutiny but this scene and the letter from "O" (who we later find out was in fact Orsino) was her breaking point. Even as a mage herself she could not find it in her to support the worst face of mages she's ever seen.

All that remains will forever haunt me. In DAO, A Paragon of her kind, just before you meet the broodmother with Hespith litany. No quests in DAI never managed to really get me as they are diluted in the boredom of futile non interesting quests in the open world, it has a real problem of pacing, and that’s sad because better packed, the main quest would be amazing

The 2 that stand out to me is Here Lies the Abyss and after Ostagar when you wake up in Flemeth’s hut with Alistair, and start your adventure with him and Morrigan. I love Here Lies the Abyss, especially the Fade part, because as a first time experience, it’s amazing, but it’s also great with the variety of characters and dialogue that can happen in multiple play-throughs. Seeing Alistair, Varric, and my Female Hawke all interact with my Inquisitor, Solas and the like, while upside down in the Fade, with a Nightmare Demon trying to taunt them… So good. Such chills.

Landsmeet is number 1 for me. Requires previous set up, has multiple paths and outcomes, gives you the option to duel yourself, lets you decide the fate of the crown, and resolves Loghain's plotline one way or another. It's especially impactful to play as a Cousland who defeats Loghain, and my male Cousland dual weapon warrior spares Loghain making his redemption that much more surprising and meaningful. My Cousland also becomes king in the Landsmeet, so I doubt anything will take the number one spot from this. 2. Battle of Denerim. The character farewells, the battles alongside the gathered allies, Loghain's sacrifice and conversation before it, and the epic ending. Awesome. 3. Final Straw. Siding with Meredith and annulling the Kirkwall Circle is pretty interesting, especially when doing so with the intent of saving Bethany. The hug between the Hawke sisters is great. Killing Anders is great. Killing Orsino feels like it resolves the All That Remains quest, since Orsino could have stopped Quintin. Telling Meredith to back down and saving Bethany explains Meredith turning on Hawke (in addition to the red lyrium idol). The fight with Meredith also isn't too bad, and the templars bowing to Hawke at the end is a good conclusion. 4. Killing Howe and saving Anora. Especially satisfying as a male Cousland who is interested in Anora. 5. Siege of Adamant. Teaming up with Hawke to convince the Wardens to stand down is a fun quest, especially with Cassandra, Varric, and Blackwall in the party for story reasons. I just wish BioWare had done a better job with Hawke's customization. I played a default Marian archer, and she didn't look anything like her DA2 appearance. I changed her as best I could, but she never looks exactly right. Also, her weapons default to daggers. I had to keep reloading a bunch of times during certain scenes in order to get the bow and arrows to stick.

Agree with your list. I loved Morrigan quest to kill her mother the first time I did that quest I was not expecting her to turn unto a dragon. It was then I realized how powerful she was. She always felt like baba yoga. What bioware does need to do is take the clothing and appearance mods, and hire those people. Biowares character designs could really use some help. The guys and girls look almost the same in vanilla games.

All That Remains was when I went from “maybe I’ll side w/ the mages” to a “I’m a mage and even I’m tired of their crap.” Edit: Added note about Trespasser: for me I loved it because it was a return to form for Bioware. It was such a tight knitted piece of story in which they abandoned trying to do open world elements and returned to making more condensed, story-oriented spaces.

I’ve also always loved ”In your heart shall burn” but after just 2 playthroughs I realized that Corypheus was revealed too soon in the game. They should have waited until What Pride Had Wrought and then perhaps add a few extra main story missions between that and Doom Upon All The World
@BlitzAssault
@BlitzAssault Жыл бұрын
Oh and also with All That Remains, this moment solidified Hawke as the best protagonist in the franchise. They are so much more personal than the hero of ferelden and the inquisitor. This is just one of the many moments where Hawke does this. Another is Aveline’s story mission with Donnic. There are a few more moments but those are the ones that stand out the most to me!
@1957DLT
@1957DLT Жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean about Corypheus being introduced too soon -- despite the Epic Entrance -- but have come to realize that the real problem was that Bioware blew out all the villain menace right there and did not up the ante as the game progressed. He was more of a slowly deflating balloon than a growing threat.
@ohauss
@ohauss Жыл бұрын
@@BlitzAssault Uh, yeah, except for the fact that for the Hero of Ferelden, it may well have been extremely personal from the prologue. But I guess having most of your family butchered and your ancestral home burned down isn't particularly personal?
@BlitzAssault
@BlitzAssault Жыл бұрын
@@ohauss That wasn’t what I meant. Yes the human noble origin is great and really let’s you do a real roleplay of your character throughout the story but Hawke really feels like you make true friends in your game and you actually do stuff that those kinds of relationships would reflect in life. DA2 is more like a movie or show than a RPG in that way, but you get to make the story yourself. While the grey warden certainly has that, it’s more of a DnD campaign than anything in Origins.

I agree. However if they continued any further, I would think Tevinter are the main bad guys and would be super confused when he turns up. Flip side, I think revealing the well of sorrows comes way too late and is a much more compelling reason for Corypheus to personally hate you.

One of my more memorable paythroughs of DA2 I made an arc for Hawke, by starting out diplomatic/helpful in the first act then switched to humorous/charming to try and cope in the second act, and then switched to aggressive/direct in the third act to represent Hawke finally just being worn too thin. In this go through Hawke lost his sister, brother, and mother along with his love, Talis, not being able to stay. I put that Hawke through a lot is what I'm saying.

All that remains is arguably the best written quest in the entire franchise, as soon as you showed it and said its name, I was like "OMG YES"! I will never forget the feeling and the shock that I was in when I played that quest for the first time. Also, Morrigan has the best introduction scene in the entire franchise. I loved when you found Skyhold and I loved the Trasspaser DLC. Idk why people hate Solas, when is a really good character. And also, I loved the moment when we speak with him one last time: I will proof you don't have to do this. And he replies: I hope you're right... Joder! That moment, uf... the voice of solas is so damn good that you can hear in his words that he really don't want to do nothing bad. He wants the Inquisitor succed proving he was wrong. He's is sad for his love for the ancient times, but, he knows there's a plenty oportunities for the new times.
@ohauss
@ohauss Жыл бұрын
The ending of Trespasser suffers from them never making quite clear what the difference is between what Corypheus wanted to do and what Solas wants to do. It might be that it's more clear when you've read sundry movels and other extra material, but you would expect a game to have the information needed to understand it. As for why people hate him, no matter what ,his motivations are, he wants to cause death of genocidal propertions.
@omarabdelaty634
@omarabdelaty634 Жыл бұрын
solas is an excellent character beyond reproach. He is the worst enemy one could wish for. But he is just that to me: an enemy, that managed to get into the inquisition, using his knowledge and our dire need for help and his non-existent history. I would always welcome Solas into the inquisition, and I would always regret it in trespasser. One cant hate him from the beginning, and that is exactly why his betrayal hurts so much. Also, when you speak to him in the end, he is barking mad in my opinion, even if he still sounds reasonable. Just 'cause he is a good character means we gotta love him. some of the best characters can be quite polarizing. and solas is a fine example of that. I hate him but respect him, up to a point

1. In Your Heart Shall Burn-people complain about this cutscene being too long and idfk what they're talking about. It's MARVELLOUS. Your thrown on your ass with the attack of Haven, since it happens so early in the game and you think you've established your homebase... LOL. Then we trekk to Skyhold and it's like NOW IT BEGINS FOR REAL MFERS. 2. Landsmeet-yo everyone here who reloaded and redid choices raise their hands aaaaay. Also Anora's a HBIC. 3. Introducing characters-Morrigan can never enter any other way. On recurring characters-I couldn't stand Cassandra in DA:2 and ended up completely loving her after Trespasser. 4. All That Remains-Bioware and DA proving they're superbly good at kicking your emotions in the ass. When your MC can't protect the ones closest to them they love and even have to sacrifice them-it lays the door open to knowing NOTHING is off limits. 5. Trespasser DLC-"I suspect you have questions." My jaw remained open for THAT entire scene. When you replay DA:I every single thing Solas says is like ha ha ha YOU EFFER. But holyshit, what a freaking good end for the inquisition and a great setup for DA:4.

I know most folks may not agree but “Demands of the Qun” (particularly if you romance Iron Bull) in DA:I resonated with me. It can really rip your heart out depending on your choice to rescue the Chargers or not. It has great writing and great voice acting throughout the quest-Freddy Prinze, Jr. just knocks it out of the park. You have the added bonus of interesting Tevinter/Qunari adversarial dialogue if you bring Dorian as well. Just a phenomenal quest all around and it’s a great example of choice actually having consequences and affecting the outcome of the game.

As someone who took care of my mother, my best friend, through a long illness and losing her last year, I hated "All That Remains". I hated that they didn't give us any tiny possible way to save her mother, and I cry every time I have to play it. Hawke saved everyone over and over, but the people she cared most about almost always died or were taken away. I really enjoyed "Tresspasser", but I can't stand anything about Solas, so ending it on him and then finding out the next game would be focused on him, I was left with no enjoyment of the game.

When I played "Origins," I had to stop play all of them just because they were so awesome. It was such an amazing looking into the various cultures we saw later in the game. On Inquisition, I thought Vivienne was a manipulative "B." To that end, when she offered her services, I turned her down. The look on her face was great. On Awakening, as the Warden King, the look on Nathaniel Howe's face when I told him I was going to leave him in charge.

To be fair, I didn't cry when Leandra died, she was super judgemental of Rhea (My Hawke) mostly due to the fact that she's not Leandra's biological daughter but a bastard child, so she's Malcolm's daughter and Leandra always resented that, somewhat. Also after his death, Hawke looked so much like the diseased Malcolm Hawke, so Leandra found it difficult to be in the same room as her.

In your heart shall burn was epic in the first play through but on subsequent once the long-ass walking section just gets annoying, dont mind the singing part since I sing along like a mad man just like I do when I am on board the Jackdaw with my pirate crew. Descent is one of the stand outs for me, added more lore to the series, and also the first time you encounter the brood mother in Origins and hearing the horrible things that the darkspawn had inflicted on her was just gross and horrible also the dungeon you have to traverse is just disgusting.

I feel like it was a waste to not introduce who actually is Fen'harel at the end of tresspasser instead of the post credits. I missed Ostagar. Btw, I always play Hawke as a woman, don't know why, just feels like Hawke is a woman. Watching the "All that remains" scene made it even more clear to me.

In Your Heart Shall Burn is brought down a lot by the horrific moment when everyone busts out into that dumb song-- that's my most hated moment in the entire series, and I CAN"T SKIP THE DAMN CUTSCENE!!!

I freaking hated the landsmeet, it was so underwhelming and frustrating. In your heart shall burn however, is pure perfection. I wouldnt change a thing. not a thing. I think I cried a little the first time I played it. I just cried, when cullen said make them pay for it. The battle at Ostagar was also perfection and also made me cry. All that remains left me so shocked I couldnt believe it to be honest. and tresspasser as I mentioned in previous comments left me feeling useless and vulnerable like nothing we built matters, in the end it falls down for the likes of zeolts of solas and qunari followers. In DA2, my favorite part has to be either carver's/bethany's injury in the deep roads, or the dueling of the Arishok or maybe the shock I had after I was made to be a part of terrorist bombing of the chantry with people inside each moment there made me feel things. Unlike other games, DA makes me feel things. That is why it remains my all time favorite game.

no worries, that’s why i said ‘we think its an Archdemon’ while in retrospect its just a red lyrium dragon in Inquisition.

Trespasser was a buggy, broken mess. Such a huge disappointment.
