@@jlang i made a promise to myself to learn the basics when a deaf lady was in a panic and distressed at the pub i worked at. luckily another memeber of staff knew the basics due to a history in childcare. the second they could communicate, just a little bit, it made the whole situation less frantic for the lady. if that staff member had not been there it would have been full blown panic mode for her. its just remembering it when i dont use it regularly. i should make the effort to practise really.

@@jakalak9158 Yeah I can't swim well, but I can swim. Idk if it's a whole UK or even a whole Scotland thing but from P4-P7 every year for about 2 or 3 months we had to do swimming lessons. I don't usually swim in oceans and that anyway because I hate the feeling of my feet just hanging down in a place full of wild animals, no matter how harmless they are.

That poor grandma I couldn’t imagine how terrified she must have felt not being able to signal the girls or how scared the girls must have been stuck out there. They just wanted to have a nice and fun day :( Im super glad, however, that they’re all ok and together again hopefully this doesn’t ruin their day out

I'm from England and I've been to Bondi. There were many people there since it was Christmas and the life guards there helped me out of the water after I was hit by a surfboard and it winded me. I was then caught in a rip and almost drowned. So basically, they saved my life. Thank you so much!!!

Unrelated to the video, but my family was watching the news and when I walked in it was showing a video of a bondi beach lifeguard buggy and board and I immediately knew it was from bondi. Tbh I was quite proud (The only reason I knew it was from bondi is from watching these videos, I’m British so I can’t get the actual episodes)

I was a lifeguard in a private pool and also gave lessons.. . I could not save people on a beach though, people just don't listen. Kudos to the Bondi Rescue team, Emergency Response Teams, Search and Rescue Teams, and everyone who makes a difference. THIS WORLD NEEDS IT!

The poor grandma at the end with her girls. that is so sad that she couldnt get help or talk to anyone to tell them what was going on. glad the life guards spot anything and act so quickly and dont hesitate at all. big ups to all the life guards that work at bondi. it looks hectic and like a lot of work.

Always always always swim with a partner and in areas with lifeguards. A few years ago, my family was at the beach and the surf was really big. My brother-in-law swam out to where we were all hanging out in the waves. He swam with us for awhile and then mentioned that he was going to go farther out because he used to do a lot of open water swimming and he missed it. None of us thought anything of it, because he's a 35 year old adult and we had no reason to question his swimming ability. About 10 minutes later I decided to take a break. Back on the beach, my sister asked me where my BIL was. I mentioned that I hadn't seen him for awhile and we continued chatting. About 10 minutes after THAT, we saw a lifeguard sprint to the water. I went closer to the beach to check it out, and it turned out that the lifeguard had to rescue my brother in law. He swam out too far and got exhausted trying to stay afloat. He struggled for 20 minutes before the lifeguard got to him. He needed oxygen and he had to go to the hospital because he had swallowed water. He later said that he got so exhausted that he felt paralyzed in the water by the time that the lifeguard got to him. It was such a close call and I have no doubt that he would've drowned if the lifeguard did not see him and save him. The situation could have been prevented if he had somebody with him to notice that he needed help, or if we had kept a better eye on him. We had no clue where he was and totally missed that he was in trouble. I learned a lot from this experience.

Those lifeguards are probably fitter than olympic swimmers... honestly wouldn't surprise me if Bondi lifeguards are banned from the olympics because they are just too damned good. They have to do so much training for this, and have to be incredibly fit and healthy.

When my dad first started teaching me about riptides I had horrible nightmares, but he was quick to teach me how to save myself if I was ever in trouble. He taught me and my siblings how to swim very early. Riptides are definitely something to respect, there have been a few that have taken me by surprise but the main thing my father drilled into my head was, “If you panic your dead.” Blunt but it got the point across.

I'm from the states and never have seen a beach with this much action. They said they do like 200 savings a day. Why are these people all going into the water when it's so dangerous? Am I crazy? I don't get it. Great show though! I love it!

I don't think the water is particularly dangerous. I think it's because there are so many tourists who have never been in the ocean before and think it's a pool, have little or NO swimming ability, don't speak english enough to read and truly appreciate the signs with warnings ect.

Im glad there are these life guards to help people because one time i was on a roadtrip in this wave pool with my friend and it wasnt huge but it was a good size and there were alot of teenagers on these floaties and the younger kids like me kept getting knocked over by them and i was in the deep end bc i know how to swim and i mostly can keep control of myself but the waves kept getting water in my mouth and i kept coughing and i started struggling to swim and i lost my friend somewhere and the life guards literally did nothing about it, im glad these lifeguards actually LOOK and PAY ATTENTION unlike alot of lifeguards here in america and you guys make a difference so thank you!

I grew up in Newcastle Australia, 100 miles North of Sydney. Every summer I spent surfing and swimming at either Newcastle or Merewether Beach, both not unlike Bondi. As an Aussie you learn to deal with the surf. It becomes a part of you, big or small. I have surfed truly huge waves at Nobbies Beach when I was 16 years old. These guys are doing a great job looking after people who have no idea about the sea and the surf. Respect!

It would be great to have a life guard who signs on the team. Even basic signing would help tremendously. The last rescue made my heart sink. I’m glad the family is ok.

Can’t wait for the new season to come out. Just sad that no one will be able to go to the beach. Not even Tama and Bronte. At least we have something to watch while we are in isolation.
