I have shot sporting clays with a Ruger Red Label, great shooting firearm for Clays and a price quite reasonable for an over under. Even a Mossberg 500 pump action with a 28” barrel attached. Again a great gun. It’s not about the gun but about the love of the sport, practice and in the end it is the talent of the individual handling the firearm. Enjoy the Sport!

Went to Ian Coley's last summer and picked up a Caesar Gurini Magnus 30" Sporter for 2650.00 in a sale! Fantastic gun, shoots brilliantly and they usually retail around £3500.00. Well worth the journey up to Cheltenham!

Really enjoy your videos! Very Helpful. I am just starting out shooting sporting clays and shoot a browning 525l. I am really liking the Beretta 692 Black edition but, in your humble opinion, would my shooting improve dramatically buying this shotgun? I am enjoying the 525 and just wondering, am I better sticking with that to learn the fundamentals before spending almost 3 times the money on a Shotgun? Tia

Can't go wrong with a miroku. Best bang for your buck accross the range in my opinion. Sure some of the higher end guns have some nice features but are they worth 5x and even 10x a relatively entry spec miroku- zero chance. Even the mk10 1 is a great shot better than a lot out there

Thanks for a great video. My nomination for a good sporter shotgun would be a Nikko 5000 II. I own a trap version with 30 inch fixed choke barrels (full and 3/4), fiddleback walnut woodwork and an adjustable comb. It balances perfectly and shoots clays beautifully - second hand it cost £1,300 including a full service, rejointing etc. I believe it is the same type of gun as the Winchester 101 and some Parkerhale models. Either way, these gems are worth a look.
@tgsoutdoors

Definitley Agreed on that, between the Nikko 5000/ Shadow series, Most any SKB and generally anything 1970-1990 Japanese built would be an awesome addition

Adam Perkins Adam,one of its main competitors in the 70s was the shadow indy which they did in trap and skeet the nikko and shadow were great quality just like the Miroku ,if you couldn't afford a browning b25 these were what people strived for.I personally think the nikko was slightly better quality than the Winchester ,and it was more exspencive but worth every penny . PS. John is very knowledgeable ,and knows his stuff for such a young man.

@tgsoutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't be the same without one in hand, and Blaser don't want to deal with us, so its fairly hard to acquire. My thoughts would be to get yourself an F3 instead, the F16 doesn't have any on the unique design and handling that the F3 has, so all you are buying is a name. There are many other guns out there at F16 money that will out handle it, out shoot it and out last it.

Is one gun better than another? Probably not. Does a particular gun suit you better than another? Probaly yes. I personally am not fond of Berettas, too slim in the hand, the DT11 is the exception though. I had a Laurona, lovely gun, would still have it had the house not been in the path of a wildfire. Then a Browning Cynergy Classic was OK, material quality iffy. Now have a B Rizzini Fierce 1, great gun it does better than me, it always puts the shot charge out of the barrel, 100%, just a shame my pointing average is not as good. It's the shooter makes the shot not the gun. Shooter and gun are a team, a shooter is not a shooter without a gun and a gun is just an object without a shooter. I like my Fierce 1, it fits me well doesn't fight back when I want to move it and best of all has no attitude, certainly does not get upset when the target fails to break or sulk when I take out my BR Artemis on damp and wintery days. If I'm ready it is ready. Do I aspire to a better gun, not sure I can say any gun is better than this gun, looks good and does the job it is supposed to, fires the cartridge, the rest is up to me.

Thank you for the response! If I could explain maybe you can give me more advice? I currently shoot a Silver Pigeon 1 sporting 32" (8 lbs even). I am a decent shooter. At our home club which is usually considered a fairly hard sporting clays course, I averaged 87% for our latest 16 week league. Although I love my SP1, I am looking for an upgrade as I feel the trigger has cost me one or two clays here and there. Not many clays, but it's not as crisp as I would like. Also I would not mind a little less recoil. I am a fairly big/tall person at 6'3" 230 lb with long limbs and large hands (6'8" wingspan fingertip to fingertip). The SP is pretty slim which seems to suit me, but I feel like there is no reason I shouldn't be able to shoot a DT11 which is a thicker beefier gun correct? Also the standard Beretta sporting stock dimensions (except with spacers to increase the LOP) fit me very well. I have only shouldered the DT11, I have never shot one. I would also consider a K80 or an F3, but I have never even shouldered one of those, nor a DT10. I don't think it would be easy for me to find a used DT10 to buy in person. So in the end, this might be a blind purchase. Finally, we only shoot plastic wads here as thats the ammo easily available (Fiocchi) and I shoot maintained lead most of the time. The DT11 black interests me as the weight is closer to my SP than the regular DT11. So what do I do?!
@WoozyOutdoorAdventures
@WoozyOutdoorAdventures 6 жыл бұрын
just to follow up, i managed to find a shop that had a DT11, a K80, and an F3 that i could handle. I ended up buying a used but practically brand new Perazzi MX2000s for a few thousand less than the DT11L i was leaning towards! very excited.

I love Jonny's videos and highly respect his knowledge. However, when he states that the Beretta 686 is "not the most shootable gun in the world", there's got to be some more detail given for the conclusion. I own two Maroccchi Model 99's, two Browning Ultra XS's, a Perazzi MX8 and a Beretta Silver Pigeon. For the life of me I can't understand why a Perazzi MX8 is worth 5 times what a Browning or Beretta is and as for "shootability", well, that's about as subjective as it gets!

I have a K32. Built like a tank. I find it a heavy gun. Nice on recoil but easy to over swing. This is my second K32. I wanted to see if this one handled better the the first. It will be up for sale before the year is out. My first choice is a Beretta 682 trap. Unless I want to impress, then I use a Beretta 687EELL

This isnt very related but can anyone tell me why Sporting Clays is not an Olympic sport? I'm new to the shooting sport and I can't seem to find an answer to this.

I was always under the impression sporting clays was never considered due to its late arrival onto the shooting scene and it's layout. Skeet and trap are an easy open ground where sporting clays is embedded through usually dense scrub tracks

I am relatively new to guns. I am familiar with Berettas, but not with the other guns. Could you include some text with the make and model. I have a slight problem with your accent. Thank you.
