I'm also gonna say the overall best I've read so far is the Darth Bane trilogy by Drew karpyshyn. The way the author leads you to sympathize with Banes situation and decisions, although cruel, is WHY I READ, man. Challenging your previous or current beliefs is part of gaining wisdom and part of life, and using banes sad story, drew puts you in that situation whether you like it or not, because you see why he does what he does, even though he's evil. I'm definitely looking into the x wing series you recommended, thanx

Great video and a good list. I love the first 4 X-Wing books, but once it switched to Aaron Allston as the writer, it just felt more like a chore. Not that the writing is bad, it was just mildly disappointing that I had to get used to a new Squadron of characters. However, I'm at least glad that Allston decided to make a new Squadron to tell his stories rather than take Stackpole's characters and do things that might have been to the dismay of fans. And the logistics of why Wraith Squadron was formed did make sense. I wish more people would talk about the Jedi Academy trilogy, I feel it's underrated. I did a review on "the Callista trilogy," and I expressed how mediocre it was.

So far Ive only read the Timothy Zahn trilogy from the early 90's. I didnt like the end of the last command (particularly how "easy" Thrawn dies) book. But other, than that I felt in love with the Series. He actually understands the characters perfectly and gave us some fresh new content with awesome new characters. Should've been episodes 7,8 and 9. I want to read the Yuuzan Vong Books, but 19 books is quite intimidating. So I want a shorter alternative before that series. Thanks for the video.

I know you didn’t ask but my issue with LOTF was kind of opposite to yours, it seemed more like 3 separate trilogies from 3 separate authors all thrown together out of order. Nothing wrong with each author showing off their favorite characters but I found it excessive here, especially with Travis’s work. It's frustrating though because this could have been something very special with a few more books - or at least a time jump to make the villain more credible … but it still has some of my favorite scenes from all of Star Wars.

I have a list, and it is rather different compared to yours. 5) Darth Bane 4) Fate of the Jedi- I can not rate this higher as if follows Legacy of the Force and Dark Nest. Second it felt like the first few novels were of mediocre quality with writing that improved as time progressed, with the last two or three being very good reads. 3) The Shadow Academy arc of Junior Jedi knights- This was and remains a favorite read with the only uneven novel being Lightsabers. 2) Jedi Academy- If this selection were not obvious from my prior selection, I really have notning to say. Lol 1) New Jedi Order- What can I say? It is dark, mature, fun, heartbreaking, inspirational, depressing, and fairly realistic. It also brings in a very large cast of characters from the Bantam era and just went all in. I just would have loved a confrontation between Palpatine and Shimraa, and seeing Vader oppose Tsavong-Lah in combat. Massive series, and I believe I again own most of the novels.

They’re all so close together, and there are elements I love from each of them. If I’m being honest, “Heir to the Empire” is my favorite because it just starts an incredible journey, but “Dark Force Rising” and “The Last Command” each continue and finish the story in satisfying ways, so it’s hard to rank them like that, but “Heir to the Empire” has the slightest of edges.

If you were ranking x wing rouge squadron vs wraith squadron, thatd be a really hard one. Rouge squadron has more beathing room with 4 books, its fun, and the taking of coruscant is really good. What would you recommend reading after reading through the Thrawn Trilogy?
@jonathankoan
@jonathankoan Жыл бұрын
I assume we are referring to the OG EU/Legends trilogy. If so, I suggest reading the X-Wing series (1-4 for sure, maybe the rest of you love it), the Jedi Academy Trilogy, and then I, Jedi. If you enjoy all those you could probably read the Hand of Thrawn Duology. If you want some standalones or books earlier in the timeline, Kenobi and Darth Plagueis are great! If you want a good Darth Vader read I’d suggest “Dark Lord: the Rise of Darth Vader”. If you mean the Canon Thrawn trilogy, you can jump pretty much anywhere that is either a standalone or start of a series. I’d avoid The High Republic until you’ve got more of the canon under your belt, but just about all the other standalones and trilogies are great starting places.

@jonathankoan
@jonathankoan 2 жыл бұрын
@@xk1390 The NJO can be dark in moments, but the writing style of most of the books didn’t dwell too much on death and darkness for me. We weren’t following the villains too much and didn’t see their perspective too much, rather than the heroes. There was a lot of destruction, and some of our favorite characters died, but for the most part I thought the authors were able to strike a balance with some humor and some great character moments. I felt that other books like the Darth Bane trilogy focuses too much on the Sith and the writing style never had humor or lightheartedness, which is why it was harder for me. But the NJO isn’t for everyone, so if you had trouble getting into it you may want to either skip it or save it for later.

@@timesup5105 on the channel, I have discussed how the weakest element of the Canon literature has been the characterization of Luke. It is still something that hasn’t worked well. That being said, there are many elements of the books that have been successful, such as Bloodline and Leia Princess of Alderaan, which really were excellent dives into the character of Leia, and while the novel Last Shot was not a favorite of mine, it added a lot of great characterization to Han. Phasma was a character who didn’t get much screen time, but the novel Phasma was endlessly entertaining, and really changed my perspective of the character, especially in light of the deleted alternate scene for her death in Last Jedi. I’ll grant the sequel trilogy is the weakest trilogy in Star Wars, and I’ll grant it has its problems, but I did have lots of fun with it. And since this is a media tie-in channel and I love media tie-in fiction, I’m always trying to encourage people to read the books that connect to projects, because they almost always enhance your view of the project.
