Watch some more videos from them, they frequently state that they love China. Just because you love a country you dont have to love everything about it, do you? Would you like to have them solely pour praise constantly and disregard the negative parts?

My husband and I can attest to this. We have rarely paid for booze. We are locally famous in Guizhou (for being there) because we were their first westerners, we even did commercials (for tourism and our academy), and we're constantly invited to go to formal events, parties, and to see other local treasures. It could be seriously annoying at some points, but it was all in good face. Since we've left, we've been getting requests from local powers to return because they miss us. You really have to mind your face, we're good people, but we were almost constantly having our pictures taken. 24/7. Even in our apartment. So you really learn to be like Betty Draper.

Ha ha! Betty Draper! I guess because I lived in Shanghai where there were many foreigners we didn’t get as bombarded with such special treatment. I had a few times I got free meals or drinks, but not all of the time like the video says. However, as I had blonde hair and blue eyes, I did get photo requests often (especially when traveling). I did some modeling but it was nothing major. My male friend who was absolutely stunning, very tall (and black, which was actually rare even in a huge city) did more modeling jobs. He never got “NBA” but rather “Michael Jordan” or funnily enough “Michael Jackson” yelled at him. One time we went out for a dress up party, and this group of really sweet young Chinese people approached us to practice their English. They kept complimenting our outfits and called us “South America and Africa.” We just let it slide and thought it was funny. From then on that was our inside joke. But yeah, China was crazy but fun. It’s too bad what’s happening now. I don’t think foreigners would get such warm treatment unless they went full CCP shill.

When I worked in a big city in China I had a good friend who was black, very handsome and tall (and there were very few black people that we ever saw), and he got sooooo much attention to the point of being obnoxiously annoying. Finally he was so fed up with the stares and people constantly wanting pics with him that on a trip to a small scenic tourist village he found his perfect revenge. There was a shop that would make shirts with Mandarin writing on them; whatever you wanted. So my friend got a shirt that said on the front, “5 kuai to look” and on the back, “10 kuai for photo.” People were laughing and smiling whenever he wore it, and he definitely got less stares.

snarkyguy I am checking and reading every comment on China on KZfaq spending several hours, and recently in an interval of a week almost all of bad remarks stories tales of expats are deleted and found that account holders of those remarks are shut down or closed! For example, in the past week Laowhy 86 Prozzie Serpenza's Videos had several dozens of real life stories comments tales from expats, and all of them at once disappeared and commentators accounts are closed! There must be KZfaq closed them all!.. Now go see their videos. No real life stories tales from expats. All gone in a week..

If you really wanna learn about China, don't just listen to one man's words, listen to various native chineses what they have to say about their country. This probably will give you a better idea than travelers opinions, as travelers usually have stereotypes and misunderstandings due to not fully understanding the culture.

@Pika-ck7ww 6 жыл бұрын
Klok Kriger if you wanna know Chinese cuisines, KZfaq Food Ranger has a lot of videos about them. Though I don't know if he covers all Chinese cuisines or just Sichuan cuisine. China is very big, each province or even city has their own unique food and style of cooking. If you wanna know the culture, I think the best way is to go to China and experience yourself, and maybe find a Chinese roommate during that time. I learn the US culture by living in the US and living with a native speaker. At the beginning, my English was very bad, and I didn't know much about the country or the life style here. Many of my behaviors seemed rude to native speakers but I never noticed, cuz it's normal in China. Thanks to my friend, he always points me out and tells me how to do things and say things properly. It was hard to get used to, but i tried to keep an open mind and just embrace it. I have a much better idea about the culture and the people now, which I could never have learned if I were still living in China. Even the English classes in China had little to no help. I know not everyone can just hop on a plane, travel to another country, and live there for years, but it is the best way I can think of to understand a culture. It would have been much better if China wasn't so isolated on the Internet. Most Chinese people can't access KZfaq, which is a shame. Theres barely any video on KZfaq is made by mainland Chinese. The only access to China for many people from the world is to watch travelers talking about their opinions on KZfaq, and many of them would take those opinions granted. It's heart breaking to see so many misunderstandings spreading across the internet. I saw many KZfaqrs make videos that talk about how rude Chinese people are or weird things happen in China, but that's just a small part of China they went to, and the rude behaviors in their eyes may not be rude at all in China cuz China has a tottally different situation and a different set of rules. The behaviors they think is ok may also be considered rude in China. One example I can think of right now is the way Japanese eating ramen. Making sound druing eating is commonly considered rude in the western culture, but if you don't make the slurp sound when you eat ramen in Japan, it's considered disrespectful to the cheif. Idk how true it is since I only heard it from someone else, but slurping noodles is a common thing in Japan and no one would think you are rude by doing it. If you wanna know the history, I think chinese history book is your best bet, cuz even native Chinese may not know their own history very well. Sorry for such a long comment. tldr: the best way to understand the culture is to experience yourself and live with the people there.

Australia hates England and USA .. not so much Canadians unless they are from Quebec then they are french tourists that won't leave and no one likes the French, we HATE our politicians the most. We LOVE CHINA becasue CHINA owns Australia and only the RICH Chinese come here to hide their money from the PRC as a money laundering sport, and at this level of rich, Australians and Australian laws are just inconvenient rubbish. about 25% of Australia is Chinese . About 5% are prostitutes or students that are working as prostitutes. Ha ha just havin' a blast .. Nope Australia has evil old people that think young people are criminals .. they have evil women that think that single fathers in the park are pedofiles , we have evil politicians that sell whatever you have to anyone and try to convince you it's for your own good. I loved the country people in China .. it;s almost like Australia .. inventive, laughter, and look at you like you stepped out of a UFO.

I remember the midnight al fresco disco when I was in a hotel in Shenzhen. There was a very large car park, and the revellers made full use of it. The AC was rubbish, so I had to keep the window open. I'm glad I flew back to Shanghai the next day. The next time I stayed in Shenzhen, the hotel was right alongside the road. I stayed there a week, and there were no midnight discos, and I was even more grateful that the AC was good enough to keep the window closed.

The history is interesting, drinking culture is great fun. Lotsa little things to do for a week or two. And of course the North West lasts bearly a week itself

Hello to everybody :-) Even I discovered this chanel only recently I already watched a lot of this videos (due to my holiday). But when I read the comments to many of the videos I wonder why so many people misunderstand what these guys try to do. Many people say they all the time speak negative about China. But they don´t do this. What they do is to point out the negative AND positive sides China has. And as their main idea was to adress foreigners who want to visit China they of course point out the traps (like scamming) and reveal the actual life in China as maybe some people go there with false expectations. And they do it because they want the people who come to China to be able to avoid the bad things and just enjoy the good things which China has to offer a lot. I am pretty sure that every foreigner who visit China after watching their videos will keep a much better memory about China as they didn´t have scammed, ripped off or been shocked by some of the conditions which can be pretty different from western countries. Actually they do a lot of good advertisement for China and encourage people to go there. I have soooo many positive memories about Dongguan even it is not a very high rated city. But that I nearly only have good memories is due to the locals I met by the website couchsurfing.com and my chinese girlfriend which lives there since 15 years and gave me a lot of advice and told me what to watch out for. I realised soon that there are many places where people try to sell you things to an overrated price just because you´re foreigner. So very quickly I always send my girlfriend first to buy something as she very often get cheaper prices. But like this guys I don´t say "ah, chinese people are so bad" because it is something what you find in many countries everywhere in the world. But many people here complain all the time that they only say bad things about China instead of talking bad about other countries like America or England etc. Of course as this Chanel is dedicated to the people who are interested in China. If the guys would make a Chanel about America they would find also plenty stuff to complain about. I am from Germany and for some reason to many people Germany seems to be the holy land where milk and honey flowing everywhere. But to me as a german who remembers the times of the 1980 the actual Germany is just a shithole. I mean still better than many other countries but we have some serious issues going on here. But if people come here and point that things out I don´t say "shut the f*** up scumbag, go back to your shithole country". No, I say you are right, that´s something bad for all of us because it is just like it is. But people try to deal with the problems instead of ignoring them. So what I would like to adress to the chinese followers of this Chanel. With your hand on your heart, can you swear you never in your life have seen people getting scammed, spit on the ground, have been stolen from or beaten up by several people without anyone helps? So I ask you to remember "please, don´t shoot the messanger but deal with the message". If you really want people from other countries stop pointing out the bad sides of china then it is in your hand. You, the people of China have the choice to go against the scammers, go against the thieves and other criminals. It´s in your power to end this. There are more than 1.3 billion good people in China and in opposite only a small amount of bad people, but you let it happen that this bad people ruin your countries reputation by looking away when people do bad things. I really like China because of the good people. I even think I never been to a country where the people have been more friendly to me than in China. And I can feel in the videos these guys love China as well. But they don´t talk away the problems but put them into light. If you love someone you be true to him and that´s why they speak so frankly about China because they believe in this country. I wish all of you a nice day and a great time in China either as local or as visitor. yours sincerely Markus M.

The ‘evil uncle’ thing has nothing to do with the Red Guard because the same type of thing happens in Japan. It is just about harassing foreigner so you leave, and they don’t have to compete with you for jobs, money, power, and especially women.Even though these men are old, they still have the same resentment they did when they were young.
@chriss7196
@chriss7196 6 жыл бұрын
vegnewb As a Chinese I'd say it's not about competing women since these uncles are generally old guys. They are just curious about foreigners and they want see what are you doing. They are uneducated and they may not even heard about what's livestream. But you won't find any young people doing this, it's only about this old generation that grow in an extremely isolated period of China. I bet if you walk in the countryside of N Korea (that's not possible though) you will find people from a whole village following you lol.
@vegnewb

Chris Song Yes, even though they are old, they still have the complexes they did when they were young. I wonder, since staring is so bad in Asia, I wonder if Chinese mothers teach their children that it is impolite to stare? My mother taught me that it is impolite to stare, even if I was curious about them. Like for example, if someone if someone was different. Apparently Asian mothers do not teach their children that. I think you should teach your children to empathize with others. You can google the term ‘Asian stare’ and you will see a lot written about the confrontational stare that Asians give to foreigners.
@chriss7196
@chriss7196 6 жыл бұрын
vegnewb Yes I've noticed that. Although in most cases they are not hostile, their stares can make people feel really uncomfortable. Maybe many Chinese don't consider it as a bad behavior, and that's what I don't like about my own country.
@vegnewb
@vegnewb 6 жыл бұрын
Chris Song I noticed, though, that when I stare back at them, they get offended. So, I think the rule, for them, is “I can stare at you, but you can’t stare at me”. So, they must know it is bad behavior, because they get mad when a foreigner stares back. The problem is, as Winston said, if it escalates into a fight Asians will gang up on you and they will invariably take the side of the other Asian against a white. This is considered to be cowardly and racist, in my country, but it is usual for Asians. And if the police show up, they will always take the side of the Asians despite any of the facts. Because the police have the same complexes and hatred that other Asians do. You know, if you look at penis size, #of Nobel prizes, # of inventions, and overall success and also consider that Asian women are really beautiful, it explains the Asian jealousy of whites and why they want whites to leave. And Asian women can go anywhere in the world and get a boyfriend. Asian men can’t. There is a huge mismatch. So this explains a lot of the behavior of Asian men.

@mapesdhs597
@mapesdhs597 6 жыл бұрын
Mauro makes the key point: if someone tells Winston he can't take pictures or film, then that person should, a) have the relevant legal authority to make such a demand, b) be obliged to identify themselves as such, c) be able to cite the law or regulation which is the basis for their demand. The person Winston was talking to refused to say who they were and couldn't give a reason why Winston shouldn't film in that particular public place. It's not about Winston using US law & rights in China (from what I've seen he's the least likely foreigner to do that, and btw Winston is not American, he's from South Africa), it's about ensuring that *Chinese* law is followed and implemented correctly. The person WInston was talking to was not doing that at all, they were just being suspicious and acting like a bully because Winston looked foreign. If someone is not prepared to explain who they are, no way am I going to give a flying fig what they say. And if local people think it's actually ok for some random person to just bully someone else around like that without just cause and evidence, then they cannot expect basic rights in China to ever improve. The irony is the police in Western countries are not above pushing citizens around when they actually have no legal right to do so, by abusing their ability to threaten arrest as a way of forcing people to obey, eg.: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l7ZnhMVe0669eJ8.html It's like reverse-land; ordinary person in China thinks they can tell someone what to do, policeman in the UK bullies someone without any valid legal basis. Madness is everywhere, it's just at different levels.

@@Pika-ck7ww Not once did they say they were filming in restaurants. Nor did he mention anything about going onto private property like a company, a residence, or anything about US law. Of course you either can't do that or must ask permission first. Way to strawman that one. They're discussing how irrational and nonsensical it is when someone suddenly verbally accosts you without warning or pleasantries for doing something that is neither illegal nor harmful in a public space. There seems to be a double standard here that is no longer tolerated in polite society elsewhere in the world. It's OK to smoke and spit around children and in food preparation areas, but you best not be a foreigner who wants to share Chinese culture with others 🤪

mapesdhs I don’t know exactly about the law in China. But I can tell you if someone is asking you to stop doing something (just say filming) which he/she is related in. That could be a guy who is always doing exercise in a park, could be a regular customer to a restaurant, could be a neibourhood. You better stop it if you are new to the place. You will get criticised and surrounded if you can’t deal it well. Police won’t stand on your side for most of the time. Becoz you are bothering others and causing trouble in Chinese culture. It’s nothing to do with rights. It’s more like moral concept and culture feature in China. It’s very hard for ppl from west to understand. Ill give an example to partially explain it. If you are siting on a normal seat on bus or underground, sometimes you will see elder people asking you to give the seat to them. By law, you are 100% fine to refuse. It’s not a priority seat and you own the right to sit there. However, you will get criticised if you say no. Police will do the same thing. Bus driver can throw you out if you making it worse. (Defend your right and heavily argue with surrounders). You got to know how to compromise when you ever trying to do something, ask something or arguing about something. Instead of arguing, a better way to deal is to chat with them nicely, buy them some cig if they need, give them some change or buy them some drinks. If you are really good at social, you will get it without doing the rest. Chinese society is about moral and feeling. They don’t take rights in count.
