This is easily the best of these OP Z videos I've seen yet. Straight to the point, helpful, and fun. No time wasted, no obnoxious attempts at humor, perfection. Instant sub.

For the tape track, one (undocumented) trick I use a lot is holding track and turning the red knob - this will adjust the level of the dry sound (0 by default). You can bring it up all the way to have a mix of the original track combined with the tape effect. It's really useful where you want to add the glitchiness of the tape track without losing the underlying rhythm (melody or beat).

The transpose thing on the drum tracks is a great idea, going to give that a go. (Once I stop sampling EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE.)

@@MartinYamMoller You are probably more productive now though. So far I've made totally meaningless sampled things, but I've had great fun doing it. Get that dictaphone and cassettes ready for mastering and update that thing! ;-)

Mister Maunster yeah.... That USB audio out function would really come in handy tho
@maunstermusic

@@MartinYamMoller It does come in handy. I was hoping that it would allow two channel audio to be CONSTANTLY put through the device, which could be use like this: Plug OP-Z into iPad > any iPad audio would be routed to the OP-Z's headphone out. That way we could only have one cable for audio and data/MIDI so there would be no need for an additional audio interface or mixer. Still a great and welcome update!

Very informative video on op-z. It would be nice if you make a longer version of the video with examples of the tricks. Specially putting melodic samples in the drum track and using them in different way.

For tip #4 you can also use mute groups for that same functionality and then make the copies pattern change up even more by record whole new, say, synth sections!

hey makker, love the video. like the #5, haven't really thought about controlling drum variations like that. cool! as for #4 have you looked into using mute groups at all? (hold mixer and choose mute group using the black value keys) here you can have mute variations per pattern which is kinda like you describe, except per pattern. can be good if you are short of patterns at some point. currently the mute groups can only be sequenced externally so thats a difference from having separate patterns. any way, thanks for sharing, take care and have a good one! subscribed! /T

Tobias von Hofsten Tak ska du have! 😉 Glad you like the video and that even you got something out of it that you hadn't seen before. I've not really used mute groups that much since, as you say its not sequence-able, and I use separate patterns and chains to structure songs. But maybe if I play live more... Then it would be great to use mute groups. Fantastic update by the way. I gotta get into the sampling features and make a video on it in the future. I can already see a few things that make it ekstra special on the Opz

I liked the video and like the mustache. Had a quick question, how do you go about recording the OP-Z to mix? Mix in the box and record the master or are you recording each phrase?
@MartinYamMoller
@MartinYamMoller 5 жыл бұрын
Greg Menzies I actually often record the whole song onto a dictaphone for lofi grungyness (not the 90s thing). Then record to a PC and use izotopw ozone to master. But it's nice to have the option for digital recording with the lastest firmware👍

You can achive #4 easier with only a single pattern by using Mute-Groups (Shift & Buttons 1-0). I would use this for Mute Variations in a single pattern and different patterns for musical variations in a project.
@MartinYamMoller
@MartinYamMoller 5 жыл бұрын
x1983x yep, that's also a cool way to do it. But I use it with pattern chaining to structure songs. Mute groups seem more like a live playing thing.
@JoeLaRocca

I was just about to write that, also you don't have to hold play when selecting patterns to chain you just have to press it once. Cheers! Also Martin it is "IDEA" not "IDEAR"

great stuff Martin, at 3.18 you mention reversing samples to get some more drone like stuff going on - any chance you could do a video on this (or explain it)? As I find its not easy to create drones on the OP-Z.
@MartinYamMoller
@MartinYamMoller 5 жыл бұрын
elshuffles you this was one thing in the video that I was not satisfied with how I explained. It was an off the cuff improvisation and I should have just cut it.🤔 But I will certainly do a video on that, it's something I use often to make drones
