Great points, especially looking under the hood. My Nieghbor’s probably think our 3 BMW’s are always broken because at least once a week I’m under the hood with a flashlight looking for anything. Spitting coolant, OFHG weeping etc. But, because of that we’ve never been stranded or had a single check engine light come on over the last five years in our E90, F30 and a F80.

I would add that this applies to all cars. Take care of them and it will take care of you. Great tips!

I was gonna say just that. One of the differences with BMWs is some of their required maintenance is a real pain to do. Like changing the rod bearings on their high horsepower engines.

I have a carport and 10x20 carport canopy for both my BMW’s! I have extra parts and filter on hand! Belts and filters etc. If you have a local wrecking yard that has BMW, your chassis and engines. There are a lot of parts from fuses, body parts, interior parts that can be used to refurbished your BMW’s at a much lower cost! Also a good scan tool goes along way to keep it going strong 24/7/365! Great video. I have a honda Accord v6, I used these same tips, to prevent breakdowns on my cars as well. These tips are for any car in general. Sometimes the manufacturer do have bad designs in the first place though. I realize that people do not take car or are intune with their vehicles. If my honda Accord got neglected it would have broken down also. Take care of your car it will take care of you. Sometimes BMW'S may get a bad reputation unfairly at times. Americans in general don't like maintenance.

Yes I agree do the preventative maintenance but be careful I changed my oil filter housing gasket on my E60 with the N54, changed oil correct grade with a Mann filter and new BMW cap. This caused Vanos codes and limp mode. Now it has to go to the shop to correct these problems. More cost!!!

I feel like even if you keep up with the maintenance and issues, like you fix one thing another thing breaks. I had a 07 bmw x3 msport got it with 135000 miles and got rid of it at 340xxx miles love bmw’s but im not mechanically inclined so im giving a biased opinion because i had someone do the work on it which costed more then doing it yourself. Anyways i love how they drive tho. Audi has it’s own way of feeling while driving like its a mix of bmw and mercedes. Bmw has a more of a raw feel when driving, mercedes feels like more comfort when driving. Awesome channel 🤙🏼.

What you say applies to any car. I think the main issue is people who do not understand how to look after an old car. Most cars are already in the crusher before they get to the age of these BMWs. Done correctly running a car from 10 to 20 years old can be less hassle than the first 10 years of its life. I have the records to prove that with some of my cars.
@justinplowman74422 жыл бұрын
Everything stated is correct. I own 2 e46 M3 vehicles, coupe and vert both 06 as well as a f10 n63 Ahhh! They all are maintained by me and EuroMpire for very technical maintenance items and tuning. Put it this way a knowledgeable owner and technician is worth all the money in the 🌎 if you want a bmw to last even down to considering interior Temps on summer days. When I went to do both s54s valve adjustments and swap over vanos units to besian cryo hubs etc.. I was informed about timing guide issues and chain also possibly contacting the oil pump .... so addressed that as well. The shop had 3 examples of s54 engines where chain had rubbed against the oil pump causing well what do you think happens with aluminum shavings in a 8k rpm environment..... now for the dreaded n63 ... wrapping all my turbo piping as well as a blanket, modified T for the returns on the turbos and a few other things to stop that engine from self destuction ..... all my cars are on a 3k interval for oil..... FYI I use liqimoly 5w30 with the dye check in the n63 and put her on a lift because of well..... yeah. Still love that car. I adore all my cars equally. Thank you Nathan for all of your time, experience and willingness to pass that on to others. M POWER. 😎

What Nathan is saying is to perform preventative maintenance and keep religiously to service intervals.
@torocars9227 Жыл бұрын
Had 14 years with e90, garaged 7 years and out doors last 7 years but moved to very harsh hot summer location and sun annihilated roof and front and rear windshields. My first l water leak issue ever happened this winter , 3 inch of water 💧 pool at passenger front and rear side. 😢. I plan to pull out carpet to dry and bought new rubber seals and flashing tape after replacing 2 rear window regulators . Annoying job. I will be selling this car this summer but I’ve been saying that for last 7 years and can’t let it go.😅

Nathan, I love you channel, but changing oil every 3000-5000 is crazy. My 2005 530I is at 390,000 miles and I change the oil at 15,000 miles from new. disclaimer here, I mainly drive long distance on the interstate. But it has been the most dependable and cheapest car I've ever owned. If you ever want me to shoot some IPhone vid of my car let me know. It's a amazing car. My wife's X3 I changed at 10,000 we sold last year with 230,000 miles. She has a newer one now.

Cool vid. Do you think it’s safe to change the transmission fluid and filter at 85k miles on an e92? It’s never been changed.
@entonly7563 жыл бұрын
I would , i have an indy mechanic where i live and my e90 was at 140k miles, he recommended to change around 100k miles. I would say now is a perfect time .
@LeverPhile3 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely change it at 85k. You should always change if it's still functioning well. Once it's starts slipping or having issues, then it's too late for a fluid change to prevent any damage.
@willt7183 жыл бұрын
Change the timing chain tensioner every 30K. Diff fluid 30k. Tranny fluid 30K. Oil changes 3K. Coolant every other year. Any part classified unsprung weight replaced every 100K...

Thanks for the videos I really enjoy watching! I have a question, I have a BMW 2013 550 I GT with Xdrive and 64,000 km on the vehicle. I don’t have any error codes or issues. But I am wondering what preventative stuff I should do so that I don’t have any issues moving forward and considering it’s a 2013
@alvaroavendano41213 жыл бұрын
Do oil changes on the engine every 5k miles with full synthetic oil (don't trust the service counter on the iDrive). Service the transfer case oil and make sure the tires are rotated and wearing out evenly. Believe it or not tires can destroy the Xdrive transfer case.

06 525i (been driving it x 16 yrs); starter failed @ 65k (miles)water pump @ 82k. Try to be proactive on starter, water pump, accessory belt, anything coolant related, things that will leave you DOA. When I began to feel minor jitters in the steering wheel, slapped on new motor mounts @ 94k - problem gone. Nathan’s correct: gotta listen to the car.
@frankmiller952 жыл бұрын
Former pre millennium BMW mechanic here. Stop driving it immediately. Change all the fluids, being sure to fill up the gas tank with non ethanol gas, put the car up on jack stands or blocks, disconnect the battery and connect that to a good pulse charger. That way, when your beater breaks down, you can be sure your BMW will start and run. For how long is anyone's guess. Another option would be to get a good E28, E30, or maybe even an E36.
@antiochiaadtaurum37863 жыл бұрын
Hey Nathan, I just bought a 2000 E39 (M52tu20 engine). There's milkshake gloop inside the oil cap area, and saw some down both sides after disconnecting the pcv tubing. When lifting the oil filter the oil seems okay. Is it more likely to be innocuous? Or is it an issue to see a fair bit of milkshake gunk in the pcv tube, as it comes out of the valve head area?

Some Mercedes-Benz and Audi models also have the water on ecu. Even Ford Transits have the same exact failures. Water on ecu=complete failure. Don’t leave your Mercedes-Benz or Audi outside either. I wouldn’t even leave a full size Ford Transit outside unless it’s too big to fit. If water is in your airbox do not start the car. I heard that the European Fords are crap. The Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique shown Americans how bad European designed Fords really are. European GMs like Opel and Vauxhall are really really bad too and that’s one of the reasons why they left Europe for mass production cars. GM only sells specialty cars like the Corvette in Europe now and that’s because there’s a certain market for sports cars in Europe. Chryslers and Jeeps in Europe look exactly the same that is in the USA with minor differences and they always have a ton of issues.

Can't agree more. I also had an Audi A4 and drove it 550.000kms without ANY issue. Owned 5x 3-series and now an E39 from 2002 and it's just shit. Looks amazing, drives amazing, but material and mechnical design is so bad. It's from 2002 but requires oldtimer treatment. It's now near perfect but the time, effort and money it takes is just stupid.
