Of course that’s why everyone loves these shows but unfortunately, all comedy and comedians these days are getting deemed offensive. Isn’t that what comedy is all about?!

Mel Brooks actually did get in trouble with the studio. There were many changes that they wanted, before they would allow it to be distributed. Mel sort of agreed to make those changes, then sent the film out as is. The movie was such a hit, the studio decided not to fight it, and that's how he got away with it. The Dirty Harry films could also be seen as a warning about the creeping in of pc culture/feminism into the government and the problems it would cause. Like Harry says, "It's a hell of a price to pay for being stylish."

Almost the ENTIRE Mel Brooks film library, ANY of the old James Bond Movies, Revenge of the Nerds, pretty much all the movies I grew up loving would be completely unacceptable with today's fragile sensibilities. Even American Werewolf in London would be no good for the modern audience with the way that the Nurse takes home the patient. Then again I would take offensive and original over all the crap that passes for movies coming out lately.

Scooby Doo perfectly displays the arc of political correctness. When the cartoon began in the late 1960’s blond, white, Fred was cool and smart. Thelma the bespectacled, dumpy girl was smart and Daphne and Shaggy were dumb and clumsy. From the 1980’s through the 00’s Fred became dumber and Daphne became smarter and more competent until, in the last series and movies the girls were shocka-zulu Ninja warriors and the boys were clumsy bungling idiots. If you want to know the exact time-line and progression of political correctness nowhere is it more perfectly chronicled than the Scooby Doo franchise.

this is true of all cartoons, i mean i was probably 10 when they came out with the new looney toones and new tom and jerrys and even then i was like "fuck this" its pretty sad that as a 10 year old kid i recognized the absolute heresey commited upon lovable cartoons. it was evident in the first episodes i watched of each that they just gutted the characters and story and stuffed them full of dead "politically correct humor". absolutely atrocious, at least the video game industry hasn't backed all the way down yet. yet...

Airplane is hilarious, these groups would get rid of some of the best comedy movies. They'd also get rid of Norbit; Eddie Murphy wears a fat suit to portray a mean big fat black lady, who plays his wife. Pretty much every stereotype you associate with a large mean black lady is in the movie. It's all in good fun and it's hilarious. As well as a Asian man who owns the foster home he lived in as a child.

There's another point to be made about one of the best and funniest moves of all time, "Blazing Saddles." That movie demeaned racism by making FUN of it. These days, although true racism has diminished greatly since the film was made, racism is deadly serious. We were heading toward a "color blind" society, looking past skin color, as Dr. King proposed, to judge by character instead. Now, we are told we must not just ignore color but must mindlessly obsess over it. The number of race grievance professionals has increased exponentially while actual racism has declined. What used to be cultural appreciation has now become cultural "appropriation," and instead of integrating more, leftists are demanding separate and segregated safe spaces for POC as racial harmony has been replaced with racial animosity. Meanwhile, it is forbidden to shame, bully or demonize any person or group except straight white males, who may be verbally brutalized with impunity as WE are blamed for being divisive, and yes, DEPLORABLE. I prefer the healing stew of the melting pot to the bitter broth in the separate bowls of tribalism.

@danielraiber1487

I respectfully disagree with you sir. There is absolutely no benefits to being a white straight male in todays society. I would gladly trade places with a black man to prove that it is no cake walk being a white man. You are made to feel ashamed for being white, ashamed for being a man, ashamed for things that my family and I have never done to anyone but is "our burden" because of how I was born. How is it any less sexist to get on to men for being men? How is it any less racist if something happens against a white man just for being white? How is it any less terrible to single me out for things that I did not do? Is there injustice in this world? Absolutely. Is there still racism? Of course. Is it being purported by majority white males? Definitely not.

I think a good argument could be made that Blazing Saddles is not a racist movie and in fact may be more anti-racist. That is not to say that it is not offensive to some. The n-word is always going to be offensive to some in any context under the sun. This movie makes the racists look imbecilic which is why I would contend it is anti-racist. The movie essentially could not be made when it was made. The studio demanded to Mel Brooks that certain words and certain scenes be removed. Mel Brooks stated his agreement and then left the movie in its original form. Could it be made today? Well, on one hand it is an anti-racist movie. Saturday Night Live often goes into that same water. On the other hand, it is offensive to some and that might be enough to stop production.

101Snipeshot You do know that it was slapstick comedy? It was slapstick comedy lampooning 19th Century racism and racism in general. Personally, I did not look at the characters and thought that they were realistically portraying white folks. On the recent Saturday Night Live there was a skit called Black Jeopardy. It was a parody and to the person with no sense of humor it was at best a less than flattering parody to blacks folks, and could be considered racist. But it was comedy and both the scenario, and the characters, were not remotely realistic. But I'll bet they got letters of protest.
@101Snipeshot
@101Snipeshot 7 жыл бұрын
Heather Watson Of course I know what slap stick comedy is. I was just pointing out that Blazing Saddles made just as much fun of white people and supposed racism of that time so it wasn't really racist despite use of the N word. If it was really racist the movie would have made a lot more sport of the Africans. Sorry I didn't explain that properly.

All of these movies, if taken at face value, are offensive BUT; Dirty Harry (Enforcer) - Tyne Daily wins Harry over (and gets killed saving the beta Mayor) proving women can do the job (somewhat) Animal House - Pinto DOESN'T screw the drunk chick (no matter what the devil says) proving not all men are rapists. Blazing Saddles - the racist residents of Rock Ridge team up with the black dudes to save the town from Headly Lamar and his evil racist cohorts - hell they even let the Irish have a piece of the land when it was all done (something those real racists in the BLM/SJW realm seem to forget - a lot of other people had problems in past too but overcame and didn't remain perpetual victims) In the end - these movies are actually testaments to how people used to deal with each other & when content of character was used to overcome our differences instead of those same differences being used to claim victimhood.

I think Blazing Saddles did more to show up racism for the ville practice that it is than any other film of the last 1/2 of the 20th century, and it did it with laughter. In fact that's the great thing about most of your picks, that it was done with laughter instead of violence.....

My list would include Full Metal Jacket. I am sure Kubrick was a liberal when making the film, but the dialogue, themes, and straightforward approach to show how war and the draft were hell wouldn't be so well-received. Plus, the lyrics about Eskimo Pussy would be problematic.

I would never call blazing saddles racist. It has characters that are racist but that doesn't make the movie racist. It shows the new black sherriff as competent and likeable and most of the white people as a bunch of bigots which is probably accurate for the time. If the racist characters were painted as likable that would make it racist.

@@manojraghavendran5760 Twelve Years A Slave isn't the kind of movie I'd pay or spend the time to see. The subject has been covered countless times in wonderful and awful ways. If it had something new to say, I'd definitely see it. Other than that, it is clearly made for a more select audience that doesn't have anything to do with me or anyone I know. Even member of AMPAS admitted that the award for best pic would go to it whether or not it was merited. I am curious why you'd ask, though. The "n-word" is used freely among the Black community.

I would also say that Mrs Doubtfire would not be made today because the father felt like he had to become a female nanny because of commentary about how unfairly a father is treated in a custody battle in a divorce. I would also add Gone With the Wind to the list of movies that wouldn't be made today because of the fact that the main character is from a family that owned a plantation and slaves, also because it didn't stick to the narrative of the slave master beating the slave all the time it would be seen as glorifying slavery especially when after the war ended quite a few of the older former slaves stayed with the family because they felt like they had nowhere else to go and actually saw them as family. Also there is It's Wonderful Life because Mary's greatest desire was to marry George and be a stay at home mother and the way that her life was ruined by having George never be born was becoming a spinster who worked at the library.

The Police are not evil. That is #1. Funny cops = bad today. Mahoney is a womanizer and that makes him a Rapist. Lassard has dementia and that is Ageist Tackleberry is a gun-nut... so he is too much like the actual belief of what cops are to SJWs. Jones makes all kinds of funny noises... not sure why that is bad but THEY do. Sending those other cops to the Blue Oyster Bar all the time is anti-gay. Hicks has that little woman voice and despite the fact the she overcomes it... women are not allowed to be weak THEN be badass... they have to be badass the whole time. Surely not all of the criminals are white men... so that = racism. It is a minefield full of never ending triggers. Arrange to show it on a college campus today and challenge the kiddos to name ALL of what is wrong with it as a challenge with a prize at the end for whoever finds the most triggers. Their lists would run so long you'd be there for weeks counting all the ways.

Any movie that puts the Confederacy in a positive light, such as "Gods & Generals", "Gettysburg", "Gone With the Wind", "Song of the South" etc. I doubt "Driving Ms. Daisy" would get the critical acclaim it did now. Many of Clint Eastwood's movies (starred and or directed) had violence toward women: "Play Misty for Me" was mentioned, but also "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", "High Plains Drifter" and even "Unforgiven" had scenes of assault and rape.
