@@CamelliaSinensis Zoom fails to provide adequate security. You expose your computer and all it's documents to one of the worst applications out there. "use anything else" is pretty sound advise.

We use google meet. Works perfectly and you don’t need to install anything. Just hop on the website and all your scheduled meetings show up there.

@@MRPNZ yeah my girlfriends university also uses it and it's super smooth, but I don't know how the licencing works and which is cheaper

I don't recommend it. I don't recommend Facebook either, but that doesn't mean everyone else in the world doesn't use it to communicate.

@@dragade101 Any computer that's online is one that should be dedicated to malware. Whether I want people to consider it or not, it's the top platform, so it's already one. Not much I can do to change that.

While the CEO/Founder of Zoom originates from China, Zoom is incorporated in the US so not a Chinese company and definitely subject to US law not Chinese.

Zoom’s encryption and decryption use AES in ECB mode, which is well-understood to be a bad idea, because this mode of encryption preserves patterns in the input.” The encryption keys could also be distributed through Chinese servers, which is a bad idea for anyone as companies can be legally compelled by the Government to hand over these keys. So yes, if it goes through a country with next to no privacy rights, compared to most major world powers then again no. Tencent is also in America but has been found to be illegally storing certain data. Otherwise it's my stand, use zoom if you wish if you trust it.

Same goes for Facebook, Microsoft, Google, basically every other online service provider that asks for data. Doesn't mean the average person isn't still using those products. I don't recommend Zoom (or Facebook for that matter), but the fact is that most people during this time still use it, so that's who this video is for.

That's a very bad idea to run on a vm😂

It won't really help to run in a VM; the CCP isn't looking at your files or trying to backdoor you; they're just watching your activity and communications. There really is no way around their surveillance if you need to use it. You might try a VPN (though that doesn't mitigate the root problem, it's just something you can do that will mess with their data.)

@@Knight_Astolfo dude, a vpn is irrelevant. whether or not you are using a VPN, the person talking is still '* insert username here *' they don't need to know your ip or location, to know it is you.

@@Knight_Astolfo well on mobile they were sharing all device info everytime you opened the app, so yeah a VM would help in that case. Sure it won't stop them from watching you but they can't find out anything about your device, especially advertising id's which can be read via browsers. Therefore they could link your zoom with your browsing activity, but if you use a VM your zoom machine has a different ad ID so they can't correlate your browsing activity to your zoom profile

Afaik Zoom was (is?) the only cross platform (Android/Windows/Ios/chromebook/Linux/html5) video chat system that allowed the presenter to control the visitors to a room. Can you imagine a "classroom" of kids in a video chat with no way for the presenter to control who is allowed to share audio/video?

@SajeOne I appreciate that feedback. I'm not a panderer. Despite my best efforts, most of my family, friends, and co-workers use Zoom. It was a request to make a video on how to use the basics of it just because so many people have no clue how to use it. I'm sorry this video wasn't for you. It's just a video that I was requested to make. Am I trying to attract a different audience? No. Are all my uploads gonna be like this? No. It's a one-off.
