Nice picks! Very interesting to see your difference in tastes become more apparent in this segment as Jodi skewed more to epic big box experiences while Justin's list is topped by elegant abstract strategy games. I wonder how different the literal weight in pounds between your top 10s would be. 😂 -Ryan

Ha! Justin’s expression when Jodi pulled out Unsettled was priceless. I’m just happy to see Justin stayed tried and true to the “fewer rules” games as these games tend to get overlooked by a lot of Top 50 lists as people want to show off their large or more complex games. And while I skew more towards Justin these days, it’s more a matter of what do I play MORE of and these complex games just don’t get enough plays. And the reason is…I can’t keep all the rules to these complex games in my head unless get the opportunity to play them 9 times in a row, which doesn’t happen. How are you able to do it, Jodi? 😊 Medium to medium light games like Mille Fiori, Luxor, Abyss, etc totally dominate my list with about 4-5 “heavies” somewhere in there.
@BoardGamePerspective
@BoardGamePerspective Ай бұрын
Understandable! I have to refresh on rules before I play any game really..my long term memory is awful. But, I love reading rulebooks so that’s not an issue for me haha

The two of you are just like my husband and I. He loves chess and I love the overproduced games. Right now, I'm sitting here trying to learn Bitoku with it all set up and when my husband walked by he gave me the same look that Justin gives to some of your games. 😅😂 I'm hoping he will like it since Justin does...once I can actually convince him to try it.

I think I am right in the middle. "Five Tribes", "Tigris & Euphrates" and "Azul" are my current top 3. Props on having "Hive" SO high. It is definitly a simple game with a lot of depth. I wonder if Justin has ever played "Go". Simpler in rules than chess but the depth is brilliant once you really get into it.

@desertwind666
@desertwind666 Ай бұрын
@@BobLee-df4zhI think chess is wonderful at a level between amateur and pre-professional; when you play based on opening mid game and end game principles, strategy and tactics. Below that it’s just whoever makes less errors, and above that massive parts of the game are just who studied the correct lines to the correct depth… it becomes beautiful again at the elite level, when all of the study knowledge becomes a given and it’s about seeing those little intricacies. I gave chess away once it became a slog~ 2000 rating without ever studying openings.

Jodi’s list is spot on. Higher complexity, steeper learning curves. Justin’s games are medium to medium light games that teach quick and are easy to table. Not gonna lie, his list are gateway games but Jodi’s list is what you move to when you’re ready to challenge yourself.

Eric doesn't understand a very basic truth of the world. Enjoying games is subjective. There is no "right" list. Both lists are equally valid and equally good.
@ericnelson382
@ericnelson382 Ай бұрын
@@nikolamanojlovicci so you’re saying board game lists are subjective….🤔 profound! 😒 Actually, I’m making an observation that her lists were all big heavier games that require big teaches and longer gameplay and most (not all) board gamers eventually move to these types of games. His games were much easier to approach, teach, play, and didn’t force people to sit at a gaming table for 3, 4, 5+ hours. Again, an observation. I prefer her list (subjective), but the differences in what they enjoy (observation) was my actual point being made. Thanks though 🤨

Eric got caught propagating snobbery and then proceeds to prove it in the next comment. It's okay buddy, the hobby is full of it. You too are fine with your "sophisticated" taste. Just don't put down people who enjoy different types of games and nobody will call you out.
