Kommo-o's Ultra Moon dex entry "It battles valiantly with its fists, which are armored in steel scales. Kommo-o specializes in uppercuts." Sky uppercut was removed and now the only fighting type move Kommo-o learns on its own is close combat. Let that sink in...Nintendo/Gamefreak had the genius idea to ensure that the pokemon that specializes in uppercuts...is unable to use uppercuts.......🤦‍♂️.

You have the wrong idea about Barrier : It's just a physical Amnesia not a wall because that is the description of Reflect ... But i'm also thinking that that was stupid to get rid of barrier because that was a good way of boosting defense to pokemons like Tentacruel but that is probably because there is already moves that boost the sames way

I mean, Constrict is bad, like insultingly bad, but there are moves like Splash and Celebrate which do absolutely nothing besides emotional damage to you or your opponent.

I was pretty upset over most of the moves and Pokemon removed but I didn't realize HOW MANY had been taken out, I'm pissed

I didn't care much at first about the loss of moves, but gamefreak cannot handicap bug types. They aren't even god tier usually and I hate to see my favorite type suffer more than they already do.

I miss Faint Attack and Signal Beam the most. Hidden Power is a runner up.

Synchronoise is interesting. Kecleon can learn it. And with Kecleon’s gimmick combined with low speed, you can utilize that to predict if your opponent will use a stab move, then counter with synchronoise.

If gamefreak are going to nerf a type by taking away moves why would they nerf bug type. Bug's already have it more tough than a lot of other types so what gives.

Personally I understand why some of these are removed, but I have some weird attachment to features in the game, even if they're better off being removed (Not just moves but most features and mechanics). I'd rather they just try and rebalance these features rather than removing them.

Barrier is treated as a stat change. Reflect and lightscreen are an effect. Probably wouldn’t work with screencleaner anyway

I still keep the cut moves in case they update the game or a future game. That's ok, Kenisis and Barrage can live on in PMD, they're both great in that series.

Removing Signal Beam was a mistake. Good move for Bug-types and also as a coverage move by other types, provided you're a sp attacker.

Some of the moves that were originally removed could be restored in the upcoming DLC packs or future ones. Also... Ominous Wind was removed? That was one of Giratina's best moves aside from it's signature!

It always confused me when I'm fighting a hiker one on one and his geodude just does mud sport.

PSYWAVE. I used it a lot on my stall Weezing to great effect. It’s like a psychic-type equivalent to Night Shade/Seismic Toss but can do between .5x to 1.5x your level in damage. Resulting, on average, as the same damage as Night Shade, but with a chance of essentially dealing a “crit”. Was great way of dealing (semi) consistent damage on tanky mons.

After Sun and Moon, I have officially crowned the Bug type as my favorite because I love Guzma so much. I hope he reforms Team Skull and runs amok through the offices of all the people responsible for crippling his specialty so much.

I can kinda understand why GameFreak removed some moves like Bide and Return as some of them are really good moves and while others are really bad moves that balancing wouldn’t be able to fix. Although, I never understood why they removed Pursuit since that can be a good move if you can predict a switch. I mean there’s always move tutors for these moves if they come back in the DLC

I'm hoping the majority of the cut moves come back when the DLC packs come out, Return in particular was one of my favourite moves, so I hope it... RETURNS.

I was having a battle with my sister who kept insisting bide was a good move pretty hard to prove its a good move when the person you're fighting loves ghost types

I love Synchronoise and would have just given it to anyone, it would have been so great for some of the poison types that get walled by each other.

Barrier doesn't count as a screen move. Light Screen, Reflect, Aurora Veil, and Safeguard are screens because they function throughout switches. Barrier was removed because there is no need for it.

The worst thing about Water Sport and Mud Sport was the fact that they were mostly learned by Water and Ground pokemon respectively - Pokemon who already resisted the types those moves were supposed to protect you against

I used to always make this mistake as well, but Barrier just raises Defense by 2 stages, it's not a typical screen move

I like the fact that Mud Sport is pretty much only used by Ground type Pokemon. I mean, if you need to counter electricity, why not just use the Ground type you already have?

Fly and Dig, on top of the possibility of doing super effective damage, are also superior to Razor Wind in that they allow your Pokémon to dodge during the charge up turn, save for a few exceptions. Razor Wind is just a weaker version of Solar Beam with a mostly meaningless high critical hit chance that can't do super effective damage and is completely vulnerable to a Ghost type switch-in, so not even a Power Herb would make it worth using.

Yeah, I'm the player that likes my pokemon to have a wide variety of move types, so it felt weird having maybe 2 or 3 attacking moves at the end game felt weird. Lol

In fairness, I think they got rid of Hidden power because of the potential for any pokemon to be able to use any of the 18 dynamax moves and create some weird set ups with the extra effects the dyna moves have.

I agree with this list except for Hidden Power. It was so annoying trying to figure out it’s type I never bothered with it. Some people may say that’s the Charm but the only time I would put it on a Pokémon would be to get rid of something like Growl or Leer

I like the list, but no mention of the best defensive move in the game, Toxic! It's gone unless it's part of the move pool. So many pokemon that relied on it have become pocket paperweights!

A useful move that's not useable in Generation 8 is Embargo which prevents opposing Pokémon and trainers from using items. It's really frustrating when one of your attacks leaves your opponent's life bar in the red and they heal up anyways. Embargo put a stop to that until Sword and Shield. I really miss that move.😢

Some of these moves are gone from BDSP as well. The most glaring removal is Pursuit. I remember getting punished by it a *lot* in the originals. It's a bit of a relief, since Pursuit was mostly at the player's expense. Only a few AI trainers ever switched out, and the move's meager 40 base power made it poor for competitive or late-game use. Even so, I miss it. It filled a niche that no other move does (to my knowledge, since I never played Gen 8). The closest thing we have now is trap moves like Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes, and those are known factors that affect the next pokemon. Pursuit was a rogue element - you didn't necessarily know if a pokemon had it until they used it, and even then you had a chance to survive if the opponent didnt read the switch-out correctly. The special type of tension it added to the game is absent now, and the remakes suffer for it. Water Sport and Mud Sport are also gone, but I'd forgotten that they'd even existed until this video. Rest in pee, I suppose.

Pursuit was one of my favorite moves, so I'm sad to see it's gone. Great video, btw!

Razor Wind has a high critical hit rate.

Claims Toxic is an universal move. Fails to mention how Toxic is no longer a TM in Sword & Shield and is now almost exclusively learned naturally by Poison types.

Feint attack is a awful move completely outclassed by night slash and knock off (especially knock off considering it is the best move in the game, with scald being it's only competition). But despite me liking that they got rid of useless moves like this but then they got rid of actually useful moves like pursuit and return.

Cool vid but razor wind is NOT like fly and dig. Razor wind takes a full turn after being used to activate. Opposing mons can hurt you WHILE you're using the move. Fly and dig take you into semi invulnerable turns

Beedrill is the beat looking early bug pokémon. GameFreak has try to make him better over the generations.

Electric type pokemon that knew signal beam could force a grass-type pokemon back into its poke ball. What has game freak done? If your electric type can learn it better change out that bug type move with an ice-type that is compatible.

While I relief that other bad moves like Sonic Boom, Rage, or Spotlight were taken off, I also felt that a few other moves like Heart Stamp or most especially Flame Burst needs to be mentioned as well as for my own thoughts exactly.

I will give you that some of those bug type move removals were silly. Signal Beam was useful for early and midgame and I don't really understand why it was removed. But everything else felt like it was done for the sake of balance and diversity in move pools.

personally I'm glad HP is gone because it eliminates the possibility of giving strong offensive coverage they would otherwise never get. and pursuit was deliberately removed probably to buff psychics again who got wrecked by that move

The thing with Hidden Power is that an enemy pokemon having a random coverage type you weren't expecting isn't the greatest feeling in the world

I think its stupid that they got rid of heal order, like why? From my knowledge Vespiquen is not overpowered or in needing of a debuff, so why take it away from her? just seems like such a weird thing to remove that move.

53 Z-moves, 13 Let's Go moves, 41 moves requiring unique programming, 29 signature/mediocre/low learn rate (outside of TM/Tutor), and the following oddities: Ominous Wind/Silver Wind (Ancient Power still exists for various evos), Ice Ball (Rollout still exists for Lickitung evo), Punishment (similar to Stored Power/Power Trip), Wring Out (Crush Grip still exists and is a signature to Regigas), and Signal Beam (niche coverage move from tutors, but along with silver wind being axed really cripples special attacking bugs until Bug Buzz)

To be fair, Vespiquen only has 40 Base Speed, so Heal Order was never very useful to it in the first place. Most of the time it would just get knocked out before the move could take effect.
