These aren't exactly low budget bikes. But I guess the cheapest one to buy would be the KTM 125 EXC, of course depending on many things, like where you live, from who you're going to buy it and in what condition the bike is. The 690 and 701 has the lowest maintenance, but they aren't cheap to buy. I wouldn't recommend getting any of these bikes if you have a low budget. Something like a Suzuki DRZ 400 SM or Yamaha WR 250 X would work better, with lower budget.

For example, where I live - in Finland - you can get the EXC 125 the cheapest. But like I said earlier (4 years ago), because of the maintenance costs, I wouldn't recommend any of these bikes to someone who has a strict budget.

the first years had reliability issues, but none of the others are bullet proof aswell, seen a lot of ktm's with issues, husqvarnas aswell...

And rebuilds every month, it's the best bike but very expensive to maintaine.

I think it's a great bike to drive, but a horrid bike to own.

The prices vary depending on: where you live, how much they've been ridden, what condition they are in etc. I don't have an answer to the second question, because I'm 6'5 and these bikes are all high seated, but I would suggest trying out a lowering kit.

I don't mean to be a dick, but the dry weight is actually 118 kg, and no one drives their bike dry. And the horsepower is actually approximately 50. But no doubt it's still a great bike.

Sick bike

Well from 0-60 mph (or 0-100 km/h) these bikes will go faster than the FZ-07, if you can keep the front wheel down, but these bikes don't like to go much faster than 100 mph (~160 km/h), so the FZ will be beat these with the top speed. Except the 690 and 701, they will do 125 mph (~200 kmh).

In my opinion KTM 125 EXC, If you buy 4-stroke 125 you will get bored to it very quickly if it is the only bike you'll own.

450 and 500 are bit to much for a starter, in my opinion. Yamaha WR250X and Suzuki DR-Z400SM would probably be great fit for a person who has never ridden before, *but* wants a bigger bike than a 125. I'm not saying they are the best or that there is not going to be any challenge to handle one of those two, but I think you would learn pretty quickly, if you're really into riding. :) And those two bikes are pretty solid.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about? They can be driven legally without a throttle holding the power low. You just need a full licence.

You can't get the best of the best performance machines and then expect them not to need love. It's a race bike and it's not meant to be daily driven, it's a joy machine

I wanted one of these, went to the dealership to buy one and got bushwhacked into buying a 1200 Dorsoduro. It's a fucked monster bike when it runs, but I think an SXV550 would have cost me less in maintenance, Dorso loses its maps every 800kays needs to go to a licensed Aprilia dealer to reload the maps, can't DIY it 💩

*FS* (S = supermoto), but FE (E = enduro) does the same job if you change the wheels.

I have driven a DRZ with a big bore kit & dual carbon fiber yoshimura exhaust system, but even with the mods it was still was slower than a 30 kw (42 hp) KTM 690 SMC-R. (Because of the weigh and the fact that it runs with a carburetor.) *And by the way!* When you add a big bore kit to a DRZ, (that are known for their reliability and bullet proof engines) the DRZ becomes one of the race bikes and it is not a bullet proof or extraordinary reliable anymore. So then you would just have the same result that you would've gotten from buying one of these six bikes that I listed.. but with a lot more weight. Except that the 690 and 701 don't need as much maintenance as the others.

But don't get me wrong, I still like the DRZ.

I think the DRZ is a classic, but seriously the performance is not that miraculous compared to these six bikes.

EXCs aren't actually hard to make street legal. Many of my friends own different EXC models, and they are completely legal to ride on the road. But we don't live in the same country so obviously we have different laws. I checked that you're from Germany and it seems that EXCs are street legal in there too. I'm not sure if I even knew about them 5 years ago. They only started producing bikes again in 2015, and I still have never even seen one, so they are somewhat rare.

I really don't understand what is it that makes the DRZ one of the best in your opinion. Yes it's kinda like a classic supermoto, but it's not miraculously good in general. What comes to the Honda CRF450X, There is already bike that is similar to that: KTM 450 EXC. I don't see any reason why the Honda would be any better. And lastly the Maico 700. I have never ridden one, in fact I have never even seen one. So it's kinda hard for me to tell how good the bike actually is.

The DRZ is just excellent value. Besides, most people don't race supermoto's, they just hoon on the street and parking lots, do wheelies etc. Use it as a enduro bike, and at that, the DRZ is pretty great, it's bomb proof reliable, easy to maintain ,cheap, cheap parts. Solid choice.
