7:01 "Wipe the dust off your fingertips instead of . .. " might be the key and crucial advice nobody gives for fast fingers! I can't ever subscribe to landing on the next string though because I think that hinders speed

One of Sian's tips is also known as flying fingers. As one those who was already a guitarist, I can tell you that thumb wrap around stems from an alternative way of playing barre chords without putting your forefinger over all six strings. I mastered barre chords before taking on bass and I use my forefinger over two or more strings on bass to play 4 ths and 5ths on the same fret to avoid lifting one finger one and off all the time.

Curved fingers is grate for playing fast. But there are times when I do have flat fingers especially when I am playing melodic fills and solos where I may want to add string bends and vibrato to make those lines sing. I tend to flatten my fingers a bit so that I can use my hand and/or wrist as a lever to help me bend the string back and forth. But the key for those moments is learning how to go from curved fingers, to flat fingers, and back to curved fingers again. Obviously if you are constantly using flat fingers and pressing real hard into the fret board, then yeah you will take damage to your hands and wrists overtime. So you want to take these ideas slowly overtime so that your hands will get used the switch between curved and flat fingers back and forth. Now if I am playing lots of notes really fast, then I will want curved fingers. And it isn't like I'm going to have time to add vibrato into those fast passing notes. I mean heck! Even guitar shredders don't do that. They wait until they slow down, land on a bit of a long note, and then add the vibrato. And another thing if you have problems with stretching, just use micro shifts to help you out.
