I’ve got a Smart EV. Would not trade it, but what everyone needs to realize they are a city car…. Using it around town between 25 and 50 MPH and get 80 to 100 miles per charge. At speeds of 70 or over range will decrease drastically.

They're also aimed at city use, where both they -and whatever other vehicle they might be involved in a crash with- will statistically speaking be moving at fairly low speeds to begin with. They can't possibly be more dangerous than motorcycles, and I've got nothing against motorcycle riders anyway, so these fully-enclosed four-wheeled little electro-buggies would be a welcome sight zipping around town.

@@gustaveliasson5395 Well then, you'd need another car to do any highway driving or take a trip in. No one ONLY drives in cities, and nowhere else. And even in cities, at low speed, a car like that would be totaled in a simple fender-bender. And guess who's insurance rates will go sky-high to pay for "disposable cars" that cost more than my dang house? I'm just sayin...

@@beckyyoung2173 I've noticed the arrival of summer in my small town brings out the Polaris and other road-legal vehicles of all use. Some are electric. They can have attachments like a wagon, snow blade, mower, cover and side flaps, or they can be the stripped down version. Some have two rows of seats and some have one row with a pickup-like back. They are often used if you have animals and acreage. In retirement areas the vehicle is very likely to be an electric golf cart, your fair weather go to choice. Then you also have your long distance car or truck for your job or occasionally going to the big city. People have been doing it for decades without the dire results you are afraid of. None of these would ever be as safe as a full size car. Multi lane highways like the interstates in the US or the Autobahn in Germany are not the places to be driving these cars. They are nice for city commutes in something like London..... but LA, Boston, Chicago, Houston.....would be too much of a risk with loops around the cities of 8 or more lanes of traffic moving at high speeds. That is why the US doesn't bother even trying to market these types of EVs.

Big questions for the American buyer... 1 do you need a license to drive it? 2 is it street legal since these cars can't keep up with reg speeds of traffic? 3 are they insurable? 4 are they safe if you are involved in an accident with more typical vehicles? 5 would law enforcement mess with you all the time? 6 how hard is it to get hands on parts or have it worked on? and related 7 what does the routine maintenance look like? Really the videos I'm seeing they look like ramped up barbie cars that toddlers get for Christmas. And honestly I do wonder if we should focus instead on more infrastructure for these and also golf carts etc.

No waiting hours to recharge. No looking for a charging station. I can use the heater and A/C all the time, without reducing my distance per tank. I average 50 mpg all the time. The Prius also costs less than the average E/V. In the future E/V's may have their place, but right now Hybrids are the way to go!

I think these cars suffer badly from Unobtainium.. The Smart EQ is way over-priced and just not that good. The Twizy also but is more appealing. Despite seeing them on the streets for years in Europe, Renault have now quit making them. They created a well received classic and then dropped it - cheers Renault!! The Citroen Ami I don't think will be available in RHD anytime soon. The Unity, which is the best of all worlds - well we have not heard from it for years. Eventually, we might be spoilt for choice for small EVs but probably not this decade.

These systems will deliver energy. . forever. (I mean: a moving object, like a car, will create a vortex in the air, the wind. When it hits the wind turbine, it will generate electricity that will recharge the batteries).

There’s no such thing as “cheap EVs” . In comparison with each other that’s about it, against combustion engine vehicles, they are 4-5 times the price of and nothing but an inconvenience to find chargers. Not to mention varying prices make them a pain to own as you still need to babysit them like phones. For eg i didn’t use my EV for a couple of weeks and come out to find the battery has discharged enough that if it was petrol, it would be classified as a *leak!* I can leave my petrol car for 6 months, disconnect the battery and connect it back up and it will start and still have a FULL fuel tank… Not to mention once the battery has dropped its performance on an EV the car is scrap, since it’s 2/3s the overall price of the car

An 160km range is acceptable, but if it does not carry two+ people, go at least 110kph, and be fully enclosed for Canadian winter, it's not viable.
