@@Indeeee Ok not bad, not bad, ... Francis Ford Coppola actually managed to finish filming Apocalypse Now. If You know anything about the movie's production, you know what an achievement that is. The fact it went on to become what many consider the best war movie of all time is just a bonus. Anyway I'm not trying to prove Spielberg isn't great, just that there are other directors just as great. I'd say peak Coppola>peak Spielberg, but average Spielberg>average Coppola.
@Indeeee
@Indeeee 3 жыл бұрын
@@Luca-bv5ic yea, the production of Apocalypse Now was troublesome. So was also the case with the production of Jaws. Apart from that the fact that Spielberg makes movies of different genres whether they are good or bad is the biggest reason why I love him. Coppola is great for sure but Spielberg is as good if not better same goes for Martin Scorsese.

It's true a lot of the time I've never seen or sometimes even heard of the movies they mention (especially the foreign ones, and by foreign I mean non-English fills, of which I've only seen 3, that being Raw, Let The Right One In, and The Wave) but even if I don't agree their love for film and the way they give every movie a chance instead of choosing the newest high budget movies (not that there's anything wrong with those kinds of movies) but pick from all decades, genres, and Countries, just make their lists so interesting to watch, and they've introduced me to a ton of good movies I probably never would've watched, like that movie Her for example, reading the synopsis, or seeing a trailer for it, it's not something I'd typically try watching, but after seeing it show up on one of their lists (I forget which one) I gave it a chance and I loved it, probably not one of my favorites, but really entertaining and interesting and now I recommend it all the time.

I want to point out that Spielberg brought out Jurassic Park and Schindler's List in the SAME YEAR. Think about that. Totally different films in every possible way, both leaders of their genres, both instant classics. I really wanted your Spielberg pick to be Saving Private Ryan, but i have to agree Schindler's List is the better film. The only choice I disagree with here is Being John Malkovich, at least for comedy. Many of your other choices are better at being funny, long-lasting, and re-watchable, which for comedies is the point. I think you picked BJM just because its the edgy or auture choice, not the best one.

The moment the narrator started talking about 90's dark thrillers, I knew he must pick Seven. It's a masterpiece of a film, that I first saw in 2016 on a train journey from Jalpaiguri to Bangalore. I have rewatched the movie many time since, but the experience (horror?) of watching it for the first time still stays with me.

Seven is a near perfect movie...only destroyed by Brad Pitt's "What's in the BAAAAAAAHX???" I'm sorry, but every time I hear that pronunciation, I bust up. It completely destroys an otherwise devastating scene for me.

this is where I'm at too. the lists are far less about saying why this movie is good enough to be 6 while that movie deserves to be 7, and far more a deconstruction of the nature of the category followed by a series of dog piles of honorable mentions, and only really distinguishing the one that stands out over all the rest, then politely asking (or maybe daring?) the audience to name a film that got missed. And in the spirit of that dare, I feel like they neglected to call out the Farrelly Brothers under comedy.
@TheThird1977

This is a great list (and it must have been so hard to decide which movies to leave off the list), but no place for Terminator 2: Judgement Day (other than an honourable mention) is disappointing. Sure, some will dismiss it as a silly sci-fi about robots smashing each other, but it's so much more than that. Beautifully crafted, amazing CGI that holds up today, not a second of screen time wasted, Arnie at his peak, Robert Patrick's T-1000 being a defining villain still referenced to this day, a touching denouement, great dialogue... I could go on. Basically, T2 is great. That said, there are dozens upon dozens of movies that could make the list, so it's all good.

Low key, was waiting for: And for our number one pick, here at cinefix, we have to go with..... THE MIRROR. Yes, we know it’s not from the 90’s but it’s so good that it’s the best movie of every decade! And that’s why it’s our number one pick.

I love this channel! I watch it religiously and on repeat! Thank you for existing! Love all of these movies, I am a 90s kid so I am biased .... For the life of me I cannot choose between The Matrix, Before Sunrise, Schindler's list or Chungking express for an ultimate personal favorite...

So basically what you're saying is that cinema never got better than the 90's. No wonder the machines stopped society at 1999 in the matrix.

Either the 90's of the 70' were the best decades for film. Many drunken debates in the pub have not yet led to a conclusive winner.
