What an awesome experiment! Thanks for taking the time to do this… I was expecting to “prefer” one over the other… instead, what I’ve learned is that I like them both - for different reasons. The bottom up sounds “smoother” to me - a bit more “refined”, whereas the top down sounds “punchier” - a bit more “excited”. Given it’s all subjective - whether bottom up, top down, or hybrid isn’t as important to me as being able to get to the sound I’m looking for, and this just expanded that toolkit. Amazing… thanks as always!

I like your top-down/ hybrid mix. Me personally I use a hybrid method no matter the genre or quality of tracks. Great video.

I guess that with any process, you have to know what you want and how to get it. To me, that is the key whether you go up, down, or both. To me those are just different tools.

I listened to the first Exploring Top Down Mixing video on my desktop with pro-quality Sennheiser 650 monitors and thought the bottom up mix sounded superior. I listened to this video on my laptop with earbuds and still feel the bottom up is superior to the top down even with the additional enhancements you gave it here. The bottom up mix continues to sound fuller and more open to me.

I join the first comment of Musictron, I kinda like the top-down mix. when switching back and forth the bottom-up mix sounds suppressed in comparison and the top-down mix has this openness to it. But also I'm not sure if this has something to do with top-down vs. bottom-up.

I got to say, I still like the bottom-up mix better.

I'm listening on my ph, but wow well done for your patience and giving this a fair go! 🙏 Tbh the top down mix sounds like where I'm at but the down up mix sounds finished and ready to make its way into the ethers.. sort of like the difference between a portable twin speaker "ghetto blaster" and a decent stereo. I think your skills at down up definitely shine through but really if top down was best then it would have caught on decades ago. Maybe some genres like EDM it's easier to get away with top down because of the nature of the E instruments individual track processing is not as necessary, just a wondering thought 👍 for me though the bottom up sounds way more full balanced and over all more user friendly. It's like going from analog to HD TV.. Just my opinion.
