I have a Jackery 240 and a 500 Explorer. I've had both for over 3 year's and I've constantly used them with 12v items on a regular almost daily basis with 100 watts solar panel only, for the past two years as a full time vanlifer. In the future, I would like to get a larger power bank to operate other items that requires a stronger power bank. But I am very happy with the set up I have. Thanks for your testing and display of various options that we can use to make a hot meal.

Power station hack; If you want to use an appliance that is a bit over the wattage unit of your solar generator like the 700 watt instant pot on a 600 watt unit and it trips it off because you are exceeding it’s limits if you add a extension cord you will lose power because of the cord often letting you use the appliance. This also works when using dc appliances when using a DC Extension cord. Really saved my dinner when I was using a roadpro lunch box oven. Try it!

You drop voltage but the current draw will rise and could over heat the wires. It's safer to use a larger wire over a shorter distance. No big voltage drop.

I bought a dash rice cooker. It pulls close to 200 watts on high and around 25 watts on low. I can cook 2 frozen chicken breasts in it or 2 frozen salmon. You have to buy the smaller ones since it is the .65 qt size. It works great for me! Great to have for camping or power outage.

I hear so many people raving about their low wattage rice cookers (especially the Dash)... I may have to add it to mix- especially since I can't have bread or pasta anymore so I've been eating a lot more rice!!

You must get the three quart Instant Pot. It is very versatile and cooks rapidly. It claims to use 700 watts but uses 630 on my Jackery Pro. I use about two hundred watts total because it cooks fast. Great for making pasta and rice and with silicone molds you can make egg bites. Also makes the best hard boiled eggs ever, that are easy to peel. I have the little electric kettle and love it for boiling water quickly for coffee, oatmeal and pho noodles. I also have an egg mc muffin maker which I don't care for. It doesn't really toast the muffins and overcooks the egg. It got good reviews but I'm not impressed. Thanks for the video.

I must admit, I know a lot of people that rave about the instant pot. I may have to add one more appliance to my kit (and I wouldn't mind the Dash air fryer either, tbh!)

A couple of months ago I bought the 3qt size because it appeared that this little one was being discontinued. I then waited two weeks for its accessories package to get delivered. I like my IP,---it's just the right size for small batch cooking, has a food safe stainless steel inner pot, and allows me lots of cooking and even baking options. Very versatile...so happy I finally got one.
@xavierbreath2227

Agreed on the 3qt instant pot. A large portion of that 200 watts is in bringing the water to a boil. If you can add boiling water it greatly reduces the wattage used.
@msr1116

In my above post I forgot to add that the saute function works quite well, making it one of the IP's best features. Buying accessories individually or as a package increases your options.

Thank you for creating this video. I do not use open flames inside my Minivan or small SUV. I was doing research but have not purchased anything other than a kettle. I did go for a higher wattage Kettle because I really want my coffee or hot tea... NOW, on a sub freezing morning. I also need about 1 L of boiling water for my coffee and my oatmeal at breakfast. My power station has a 1500 watt inverter, so the 1000 watt kettle is not a problem for it. I looked at the collapsible kettle but did not like the way it poured. I feel the hot logic mini and the electric skillet would be perfect to round out my indoor cooking options and they would not break the bank either. Thank you for filming such a thorough review of each item.

Very good and wide selection of electric appliances for car/van camping. Your Pot /Pan is also great for various breads, cakes, muffins if you haven't tried those in it yet. Simply get a box mix and pour into a small cake tin. Add some water around the outside (not inside) of the cake tin and you can Steam Bake with it! It turns out great and delicious for Breakfast Muffins or Cornbread. Like others said the 3qt Instant Pot is great for so many things.

Hi Heather, thanks for the video! Great information (as usual); specifically regarding the efficiency of the Jackery and Bluetti power stations. Makes me wonder about the reliability (safety) of the battery management systems in them. I suppose the problem could be as trivial as buggy software that displays the information on the screen; but there could be deeper issues to consider. (Not that I would know specifically what considerations to make, but safety first, right)? For what it's worth, I own both a Jackery 300 and a Bluetti EB55. I almost never use the Bluetti, mainly because I don't use high-draw appliances. Seeing your results makes me question even more why I purchased the Bluetti in the first place, LOL! Also, though I know you are happy with your appliances, here are two more for you to possibly consider, both of which I own: 1) The Itaki Bento; it's basically an electric steamer. According to Itaki, the appliance draws only 220W and will cook a meal in about 30 minutes. It uses stainless steel in the parts that come in contact with your food, making it a safer/healthier choice than appliances with non-stick services. (I haven't used the Itaki yet; but that's because I'm not motivated to cook; which is something I'm trying to change!). 2) SabotHeat Smart Portable Oven; it's an appliance like the HotLogic, but with the added benefit of having 6 heat settings and a timer, meaning you can set it and leave it to cook while going on a hike. You can use a stainless steel pot or tempered glass dish (i.e. Corning Ware), which again makes it a healthier choice than the non-stick options. As for power draw, that can be as low or as high as you want or need it to be. I have used this one. I love it! If you're curious, the Counter Cooking and Steven Pereira KZfaq channel has videos. Counter Cooking on both; Steven's video titled, "Something better than a HotLogic Mini? A (long) comparison between HotLogic Mini and Sabotheat." Thanks again for your very helpful video! I really appreciate your attention to detail!

Thanks so much for all your valuable info! I have heard good things about the Itaki too, but hadn't heard about the SabotHeat oven... I am definitely gonna look more into that!! Thanks again!!

On the bluette has X boost did you try that.

I wonder if that's a feature on newer ones. I knew eco flow had the x boost technology that will expand the inverter, but I don't believe my EB70S has the capability. Luckily all of my current aplliances use less than 800W so I'm OK without it, but I'll have to look more into it, thanks!

Just looked up a 3q instant pot - 700w - so not low wattage but an appliance I might consider as I use a 6qt in my home.

If you're at a campsite with power, you could always use your instant pot that way too to conserve power. I sometimes forget I have that option when I'm camping at state parks I'm so used to just using my power stations

700W is a lot, but it's still pretty efficient for what one can do, so I def think it could be worth it to bring still!!

Ooooh, that's actually pretty low draw - I could see the potential in that, since you'd only be using it a few minutes at a time!

Thank you for this info!! I am concerned about one thing, though. It looks like each appliance has a nonstick surface. Am I seeing that correctly? If that is the case, what is that surface made of? The off gassing of harmful chemicals from many types of nonstick surfaces when they are heated, are very toxic.They get into the food and the air. That concentration in an enclosed small space, such as a car or van, would be really unhealthy! Please be careful! Health #1 ! And I hope they are not , cuz I want them all! Happy and safe travels!❤🙏

Thank you for bringing up this point, I honestly hadn't even considered that! I am trying to be more aware of offgassing, and using items with less toxins/chemicals, etc... but the electric pan and Dash mini products are non-stick. I do still usually cook outdoors, but there are times when weather is bad that I'll cook something easy inside, so I'll be more aware that my windows are still down enough and that I limit it. I appreciate your feedback!! (Luckily the kettle I use the most often is stainless steel inside, and the Hot Logic I use when driving aren't, so those are good!)

Do you know of a low wattage heater and low wattage fan?
@HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures
@HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures 4 ай бұрын
I absolutely love my USB rechargeable Koonie 8" clamp fans. They last 24hrs btwn charges on low, and 6 hrs on high, bit they are really powerful and don't use a lot of power! Heaters are tougher. I purchased a Honeywell 250W heater thinking I'd use it in the eve and morning a bit, but found it wasn't helpful enough to be worth the power draw. I had better luck this winter with a rechargeable heated jacket and hand warmers!

Yet you still had the time out of your day to leave an unnecessarily rude comment about something I have no control over? I can't change my voice (thanks to the cancer that paralyzed one of my vocal cords permanently), but at least you can fix your meanness. You should try it. Thanks for supporting my channel by boosting it in the algorithm with your negative engagement, though! 🙃

It’s a sign of character to force yourself to tolerate human frailties. I get nauseous when I’m near certain disabilities. I suspect it’s disgust colliding with shame. So I slather humility and gratitude over top and I feel better. This gal is one of the best vanlife video makers. Rise above the sound of her voice…or…silence the audio and turn on closed captioning. And also, maybe humble yourself for a quick second and apologize for your original comment. She doesn’t need it. The lesson will be for you. 😉
