These are my top tips for growing chillies in the UK. Keep 'em warm, well fed and watered is the main thing but be patient growing the seeds and don't plant too early. There, you don't have to watch the video but if you do you might spot Rosie the pug in the background. Please like, comment and share. Cheers from FBG

I grow the little buggers every year [in the Uk] they are a challenge due to our short growing season. I start them in Jan/Feb in a heated grower thingy, have mixed results in greenhouse but rubbish results outdoors. I find the smaller fruit types do better [birds eye chillis do well] Have crappy results with bigger fruit types, including bell peppers,padrons,Jalapenos etc. Hotter summers produce better crops.

Thank you. What is "too early"? Pretty vague. You say "don't save your seeds". Why not? I'd be planting them the following year, so well-within their use by date. 25-30 degrees Celsius? In the UK?

thank you - good to see a UK perspective. How do you know know when its over for your chilli plant?. Is it really over if they're in a greenhouse, do I prune for winter and keep fingers crossed or do I compost and start again next year ? They're at the stage where the leaves are yellowing but there are still some flowers and chillies coming, albeit slowly, - they have been outside all summer doing really well - just Brought them in as leaves were beginning to yellow. these are cayenne chillies. I have one habinero which is just coming to its first fruit - lush green leaves (in greenhouse) - I know that's a lot of questions, thank you

Great video! I have a few questions if you don't mind answering! Would I be able to sow the seeds now (late August)? Or will I need to wait until February in the new year? My plan was to sow the ones I have now in small pots, sit them on a window sill inside my kitchen and on a brewing heat mat (which will be on 24/7). I was also going to get a small LED light online to give it some extra light if you think this would help, or perhaps the heatpad and natural light will be sufficient? Would really appreciate the feedback thank you!

Just caught your video on KZfaq, growing them for 2021.Watering I'm told is let them dry out before wateringagain ,feed tomato solution weekly?This year had loads of small bugs(mites) ,but sprayed with bug utlra 2 and they recovered.Some people on KZfaq mention watering leaves with an aspirin mix(500mg-1 gallon),don't know if you've heard/tried this?

I use neem oil when the fruit are not visible. I also avoid tomorite as it leaches the leaves in my experience. If you feed a balanced organic feed with magnesium it works well.

My grandson bought a ‘Trinidad scorpion’ because he wanted to experience the heat. It is growing in a pot and I have been waiting. It is constantly laden with flowers but it is not fruiting. Today I tried hand pollination and hope it help. Any advice. I would like it to bear at least 1 chilli. The plant has grown really well and it is healthy

Do all chillis need to be pollinated? I’m growing in a greenhouse and struggle to get pollinators in at times.
@farmerbrownsgarden9438
@farmerbrownsgarden9438 4 жыл бұрын
Chillies are self pollinating - unless of course you want viable seed to plant. Otherwise don't worry about pollination. Likewise with cucumbers and tomatoes in the greenhouse. It used to be things like melons and old cucumber varieties that needed pollination

@farmerbrownsgarden9438
@farmerbrownsgarden9438 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the variety when it turns red. They go from green to orange/yellow to red. If you pick it as it changes it can ripen off the plant.

Are you in the UK Joe? If you have a sunny warm spot outside you can grow most types. Some (like habanero and scotch bonnet types take longer to ripen). See what plants your local garden centre has and give it a go.

@@thecheatingfoodie5028 Chilli seeds are notoriously fickle. Some work and some dont. Dont take it personally if they dont work for you. But... Keep em warm but not too warm (no more than 30 c and certainly not below 20). Keep em moist but not soaking and finally make sure there's plenty of light. A good compost in a good pot wont do any harm. Best of luck
