Episode 69 "already"! This is not a rushed build and that is what I love about it! Looking far into the future, it will be fascinating to hear what you would do differently for Mosquito 2!

Having a conversation with friends about how none of us really watch the marvel stuff anymore, but the new Loki is out and as soon as all of the series comes out we might watch it... So one of my friends is a bit defensive about marvel, isn't burnt out on it and wanted to know what I was watching that's better than just watching Loki right now. I told him I'm watching some English guys living in France, building a tiny sports car by hand in a brick shed. So now he still doesn't get why I would rather watch this, and two of my other friends in the chat are now watching your older videos right now. Lol

Did you double-check how the body will fit around the seat so you aren't uncomfortable touching it or running into it while steering? Slightly angled seat can alleviate that sometimes

Enjoyed the old school craftmanship, hitting bits with hammers. At the end of the video when Oliver was setting in the seat, I have to wonder if your elbow is going to clear the center console? And are your legs going to interfere with the steering wheel? This past weekend I had a tall student in a stock Mazda MX-5 (stock seat and steering wheel), he had to move his legs out of the why to turn! Easy fix for him by installing a lower seat and smaller steering wheel but you're working in a significantly tighter space.

i have to be honest but i dont understand why the seat has to be so close to the center channel when theres all that space the other side of it. surley getting in and out would be easier if it wasnt so close. is it foot alignment/ steering or something else? and i would consider highering the roof by 2 inches at least. when your dad got in he was higher than the roof postion and hes shorter than you. im not trying to hinder but help and maybe prevent any unseen disasters later on in the build
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard 10 ай бұрын
Not at all im happy to answer any question and understand it comes from a good place.The reason for the seat position is is two fold it puts the driver in line with the steering and pedals unlike say a Lancia Stratos and secondly it improves the weight balance of the car. The roof hight is perfect, Dad just got in the car incorrectly which is why my head doesn't do the same later in the video

Super content as usual. There still doesn't seem to be a lot of room in the tunnel for the coolant and heater tubes, especially when they are insulated, and it will make it even more difficult to get access to the seat bracket bolts. What thickness will the insulation be ? All the gubbins like gear change cables, fuel and brake lines and wiring also have to be accommodated, but I'm sure that you have done all the measurements and calculations. Best wishes.
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard 10 ай бұрын
It's not that bad the gear cables attach to the back of the shifter box, there's only one brake line and I've found a better home for the handbrake so it's cozy and but doable

Would it be wise to run the hot coolant pipe on the outside via the sill? (Just thinking out loud.)

I'm not sure if it's a concern but watching you talk whilst sitting in the seat it seemed your elbow wanted to take up the space where the passenger's seat would be, it looks as though with your arm above the tunnel (where it would need to be with a passenger and / or a passenger seat) you might not have room to move the shifter easily. Is it worth taking a notch downwards out of the top of the centre tunnel to create room for your elbow? Ergonomics are crucial IMO so it might be worth trying out the range of movement with the other seat in place it you haven't already. Apologies if it's a non issue, but I'd hate to have it be a problem down the road and not have said anything.

I appreciate your effort and passion and I am sure that to you this car is priceless but not to everyone in this world. To be realistic, a car is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Ask yourself how much you would pay for this car if it was built by someone else. There is a lot more to a price tag than just the number of units produced, otherwise every kitcar or buggy would be priceless. And they are not. In the case of Ferrari, it's e.g. the heritage, it's not just what the 250 GTO is, but what Ferrari was before and after this model. In the case of other makes like Koenigsegg and Pagani, it's impressive performance right next to outstanding quality, should I mention engineering. I think you might get a point at this point.

That welding job is tough. I don´t like using MIG for panel repairs as the welds are so hard that it prevents for bending the repaired sheet steel afterwards. I would prefer gas welding for this job but it needs skill as you need to panel beat it after all the heat distortion. The tunnel sheet steel is 0,5mm thick as well? IS this why you haven't considered TIG for this? it would blow through? I've tried TIG on 1mm sheet steel and found it difficult to weld without blowing through when I add material with the filler rod. I could do it without filler rod though. I think it is necessary to control the heat with a pedal but haven't tried a machine with pedal. It's too expensive...
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard 10 ай бұрын
gas welding is lovely it doest put much heat into the material either as for big our big welder doesn't have a pedal so fine control is next to impossible

That was very well done, fiddly work! One question. How will you mount the lap belt and shoulder harness? The shoulder harness would normally mount on a bar level or slightly below shoulder height. Will you add another horizontal bar? ...or is this something you planned to answer in a future episode?
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard 10 ай бұрын
It's a future episode thing really but it's simply a case of attaching anchors for the belts and there's a cut out on the seat for the belt to pass through. what looks like a harness bar isn't it's chassis and will be part of the firewall and rear window frame

I have to say that I am a little concerned about the amount of metal you have removed from the seat bracket. That is one part of the car where you do not want to compromise its structure. Should the worst happen you don't want the seat to move. Please tell me tht I am worrying unnecessarily.
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard 10 ай бұрын
no need to worry they are more than strong enough in the direction they need to be strong in. There's also a most on the front of the seat that goes from side to side with does the lions share of the work

Curious question, why would you run a heater line from the back to the front? Just tap the Radiator lines at the front?
@AlfaElaborazioni
@AlfaElaborazioni 10 ай бұрын
Because the coolant will want to run on the line where the less restriction is made so it will end up not flowing through the heater and all will go through the radiator line. The heater needs to pick up coolant from the dedicated line in the water pump.
