Top radicals in Chinese (Pianpang) - the making of characters (Chinese basics S1 EP6)

Pianpang (known as radical), is important in the making of complicated characters. They come from simple characters, they play parts and components in other characters, they provide hints for meanings. Through 6 frequently seen Pianpang, you will see not only how it works, but also many interesting characters which might inspire you. At the end you will see me writing Chinese characters, stroke by stroke.

Anything related to Chinese, you ever knew or heard of, could help you learn the language. This program gives lot of such hints to make it easier (and hopefully fun as well). Let`s use our wildest imagination. Let`s bring all possible connections. Let`s not limit ourselves in language learning (and pretty much in anything).

I agree ,I feel less overwhelmed by the mountain of characters to learn as I would like to be able to also read chinese . I bought 3 body problem book series as a goal to read some day .

Hi I had written at the end of most episodes some characters stroke by stroke. I myself practiced calligraphy for some years and I love to introduce somewhen in the future.

@@ChinesewithJiayi I started to learn Chinese with videos in youtube in 2022. I took long time to try to understand how is the logic of the chinese characters. I didn't know how to start in that moment. Now, I am living in China and I try to practice every day what I know now, about speaking and listening. Really your video is very useful for everybody. Exactly the point the beginner wants to know.

I have watched many, many KZfaq channels to understand the logic of the Chinese language and I think that the way he creates his videos helps people a lot.

Happy to know that beginners like you also care so much about the characters because many apps and materials are pinyin based, somehow I thought people give up learning characters due to its complication.

Thanks for watching! I agree with what you say! For videos in season 1 I recorded audio for the part of massive visual aids. From season 2 I do videos the whole time.

I bought a book to write Chinese characters. I started using pencil to write them but it doesn't look nice and artistic the way you write. Do people use pencil to write Chinese characters too?

Hi! We use everything to write, and especially pencils at the beginning too cause it's easy to erase! Don't you worry! No native that I know started with perfection! All writings were ugly once! But at school we trained so hard to get it beautiful (it was a long tradition from my region that one must write elegant). In EP23 my other video, an introduction to writing maybe you can watch if interested. Cheers!

Very helpful. But when you are video recording yourself you need a mic close to you. Don't use the mic on the camera. It's too far away.

This episode is very intensive regarding the amount of characters. I meant to introduce just the main types of structure and the concept of radical. For that I used a lot of characters from previous episodes as examples. Sorry for the frustration but really that's not the goal of this episode! Thanks for your feedback! All the best!
