What a great day I had touring around the Caltech factory in Silloth.
i spent most of the day making terrible jokes but I did learn a lot about the process of making Crystalyx Extra High Energy.

ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZfaq and decided I could have a go and now here we are!

As a retired food processing facility appraiser (rice, nuts, wine, prunes, pomegranate, etc.) and farmer here in California I really enjoyed the tour. I miss working with industry people like those your interviewed who are so passionate and knowledgeable about what they do. I am always amazed about how much of the robotics and conveyance systems are so similar across such a wide variety of industries. Thanks for such an entertaining and educational video.

First used crystalyx in the late 1970s in the dairy parlour to encourage the cows to enter they were in cardboard box with a plastic film, when you removed the film they would gradually melt the box just dissolved . Excellent product especially there mag blocks , and garlic blocks for fly control. Mentioning sheep , I used to use the large round blocks , but found my sheep had teeth problems, was advised to use crystalyx amazing how the tooth health improved , ewes lasted much longer . Excellent product , thanks for taking as around the factory.

So happy that the Mollases from Bundaberg Queensland Australia, where I live, is used at this factory to make the Crystalyx & then you use it on your farm. How cool is that Cammy ❤. I often wondered where the Mollases went o/s

A great product and no wastage at all, daily intakes matched to individual requirement. We all love a useful bucket but its a pity the product didn't come in a plastic wrapped version and perhaps in a lighter weight to suit smaller batches of stock.Great tour and mallasses is so good forpreventing twin lamb disease.

I LOVE your tours the best. I'd love to see more of them when you get the chance! Even if it's revisits to places. My only suggestion is subtitles for Scottsmen lololol I can understand them just fine but I know a lot of people have issues

My cousins and I did a double Dare and we all licked the salt/molasses/mineral lick for the cows, and then thought we were gonna die. Of course we didn’t die but looking back, those were fun times. Knew about crystalyx for 20 years,jst never got them(no particular reason) got 2 there in august.........expensive, but a seriously quality product, can really see the value in them compared to all other brands

They are not allowed to for animal health reasons. However all the tubs are recyclable with firms like Solway recycling

We fed very little before this year and fed a bit longer than usual after lambing. We have quite hungry big mule ewes and find the twins especially need a bite when grass is short in spring.

Just these ones. I give them to my lambs at this time of year when a lot of the goodness is out the grass. I’ll then give it to ewes pre lambing. My cheviots only get crystalyx. No concentrate feeding👍
