I don't care what the celebrities say about Instagram becoming more video friendly. Even still photos are shot in landscape usually, except on the phone, and then only because that's the only accepted format on Instagram. When Instagram started, the photos had to be square. No camera shoots square photos. Then they switched to 9:16 (phone screen) format in portrait only, so anything I shot in landscape would be clipped or reduced to fit in the portrait frame. You still can't do a live video in landscape or turn your device to view content full screen in landscape. This has been the apps major weakness for people want to show their content the way they shot it. The fact is, your eyes are left and right, not up and down. Landscape is how we see the world, as well as film and television since the invention of the camera. I understand how people whose entire identity and profession is taking up the whole frame, but that's not how the world works, and Instagram isn't taking that away either. Sorry ladies, but the era of you getting rich and famous for ducky lip selfies is dead, and I can only hope that being famous for being famous dies with it. Still cameras, particularly the Kodak Brownie, enabled common people to share their world in interesting, informative, and entertaining ways. When video cameras became popular, suddenly we had a lot more filmmakers; the technology raised the capabilities and standards for photography, film, and television. Steven Spielberg's whole career started with a home movie camera he had as a kid. And with internet, just like the rise of Rock music, suddenly anyone could distribute their creative content to the world.
